360° Denim Dream! A Fashion World Review

When it comes to clothes there are some items that we ALL have in our closets, undergarments, t-shirts, sweats and a great pair of jeans! I am a huge lover of jeans and have been since the day I got my first bootcut pair as a teenager. I will be honest though even though I love wearing denim styled trousers, trying to find a pair that looks good, feels good and looks like a key part of the outfit rather than just a boring pair of jeans is not easy!

It’s known that we women all come in varying shapes, sizes and ages. I’m not exactly in love with the idea of referring to myself as a shape but we women often have to think about what shape we are close to when buying clothes. I would say that I am in-between an hour glass and a pear shaped figure. On top of this I am a plus size woman which means I have to account for a couple of additional lumps and bumps when trying to look good. In my case I’m 5 feet and 5 inches tall, and I tend to buy jeans with a 31 inch leg. The size changes depending on the brand I am buying from and often the colour of the jeans can come into play here. Not long ago I discovered that black dye in clothes can cause an item to fit a little smaller than with lighter colours.

I was recently contacted by Fashion World and was offered the chance to try out a pair of jeans from their new 360° Fit Jeans collection. Always on the hunt for a good pair of jeans I of course accepted and was sent a pair of the Slim Fit Long Jeans in size 26 Indigo colour. Previously with Jeans from the JD Williams brands I have had to go for a size 28. I tend to wear a size 24/26 in trousers and jeans but theirs usually come up a little smaller than with some other brands. I thought I would try a 26, seeing that I have recently lost a little weight and I wanted these to have a fitted look.

I have to say I was really impressed with these jeans. They fit me like a glove with plenty of room in the behind and across the stomach. I really like the length of them and feel that they would look amazing with heels, wedges, boots or flats as the hem stops just below my ankle. For me an added bonus with these jeans is how soft they feel against the skin. Often jeans can feel stiff, rigid and a little rough sometimes. 70% cotton, 24% polyester, 4% viscose and 2% elastane fabric these jeans are really comfortable to wear. Really smooth to the touch, and they have that softness that you get when you have washed your favourite pair of jeans a few times and the fibres soften. When sitting in these they also have that little bit of added stretch you hope for, especially if you have just eaten or something.

I like to keep things casual a lot of the time and with this outfit I thought I would go for cold colours. The jeans being a deep shade of indigo made me want to add hints of grey to the rest of the outfit. I pulled out an old grey blazer from New Look Inspire size 22. I wanted a smart casual look so with this I went for a black #celfie t-shirt from Yours Clothing size 26/28 I love loose fitting t-shirts that compliment a series of outfits and this one is simple but fun. Usually I like for my tees to be a size lower but every now and again a larger size is the preference if I want additional boob room.

You all know that I like to match my accessories to my overall look and so this tote bag from the new W.O.W (Wardrobe Of Wonders) collection from Zizzi was a must! In keeping with the black my Hotter boots were my chosen footwear and my black beret was my hat of choice. Silver hoop earrings, my heart charm bracelet and floral statement necklace were my jewellery choices.

I’m believer that keeping things simple doesn’t have to mean being boring. When it comes to basic looks I like to add a few personal touches of my sense of style. For me when I feel a little more put together I walk with a little more confidence. No one likes that feeling of having to rush and not quite feeling as though you look your best. I find that sticking to the colours of my clothes makes selecting additional items and accessories easier.

Remember whatever you wear, feel fabulous in it and wear it with a smile!

Bringing Colour Into The Winter Wardrobe

It’s no secret that I’m not a fan of the winter. I find that the weather is random and wild but we as people on appearance alone are the total opposite. We drape ourselves in lifeless, boring and uninspiring clothes limited to a variety of dark tones and we tend to replace style with comfort. The start of the year brings with it many changes and this is the time of the month when people are ready to ditch their new years resolutions and continue on with life as they had been. One thing that never changes with me is a need to bring a little colour to the season. I love the rich and warm tones that are around this time of year, deep greens, rich reds, crisp oranges and luscious blues.I get really frustrated at how the cold and dreary weather makes people feel that they shouldn’t wear bright colours though.

I love my black staple pieces and I will always have a large variety of black items in my wardrobe. Monochrome colours tend to work with pretty much anything and everything in the wardrobe so they make for a great staple colour to have. I like to switch things up a little by finding ways to wear some of my favourite items in a way that is comfortable and stylish this season. I recently went out in one of my favourite bodycon dresses from Pink Clove (click here for my review of the item). I have a deep love of panel dresses and this is definitely the brightest one that I own. This time of year it’s important to cover up and the fact that the neckline is above the cleavage is definitely a bonus if you’re wearing this as a casual daytime item. I thought it would look cool to wear this dress with a thick pair of black leggings and my biker jacket.

To finish off I wore my black Shawberry boots, black beret, my black diamonte heart necklace, twisted hoop earrings and small black clutch.

If like me you like to wear bright colours but still want to keep in with the current trends maybe try a singular coloured item. This kind of look would work with most dress types and a block colour would be pretty cool which would also give you the option to play with colourful adornments and accessories.  In my case everything I wore in these photos is black except for the dress. I wanted something bright, bold and sexy that would pop, and this dress was the perfect option for the look I was trying to achieve. I developed a love for bright and brashy prints last year and it’s definitely a trend that I hope we see again in 2015!

Seeing as the weather is getting colder by the day this sort of outfit would most likely require a scarf and some gloves. A cool pair of black leather gloves would enhance the biker chic look and a scarf or snood are not only practical, they can also provide a little something different to the style.

Remember whatever you wear, feel fabulous in it and wear it with a smile!

Mixing It Up – Casual, Sexy, Oversized And Skinny!

This year my style has once again expanded. Last year was all about pushing myself out of my comfort zone and doing things that would lead me to open my eyes and try new things. The past few months I have been drawn to items for practicality and style. I have considered more where I might wear certain things. I have been playing around a lot with clothes that have interesting cuts and shapes. One of the things I have enjoyed doing lately is wearing fitted items with oversized ones. I really like the contrast of doing this and the overall look that’s achieved.

When I play around with items that are mixed fit I tend to want simple colours especially if there is a bold or brashy print in the outfit. With this look I paired a sleeveless graphic tee (Size 22/24) with a metal stretch cinch belt from Lane Bryant. The stretch material of the tee is extremely comfortable and moulds really nicely to by bust. The looseness of the neckline provides a slightly ruffled look which gives the overall tee a really nice shape. I have always been a fan of cinch belts and I tend to wear them more with bodycon and vintage dresses but everyone now and again I find a way to bring them in to a more casual outfit.

I knew I wanted to pair the top and belt with some pants so I went for the Black Ultra Stretch Skinny Jeans from Evans (Size 28s). Jeans can be tough to get right for me because of the fact that I have a belly and a large behind, because of this I tend to wear different size jeans in all brands and often have to try out loads of them until I find something that looks OK. I tend to have troubles getting jeans that fit well on the leg and that fasten comfortably around the belly. Often the legs are too baggy and aren’t so flattering. I should state that these jeans are AMAZING! The material is supper stretchy and they mould to the leg showcasing its curvature. Anyone who has had their eye on these I would recommend buying a pair, you won’t be disappointed.

To finish off this look I wanted an oversized jacket or cover up so I went for the Black Knitted Long Length Cardigan from Yours Clothing (Size 26/28). I tend to wear size 22 clothes when I buy from Yours but as I have large arms in order to have an oversized look I often have to up-size by a size or 2. I really like the length of this one and the way it compliments the rest of the outfit. You can’t go wrong with an item like this; it serves as a great staple piece which can work with countless outfits. Lightweight and warm this one works really well this time of year.

A simple black clutch, black ballerina pumps and minimal jewellery were my final additions with my signature hoop earrings and my Crystal Detail Stack Ring. This winter I am really into my hats and so again my Beret from Simply Be was also a must have item in this look. I find that hats not only give an outfit a different feel but serve as an amazing safety tool when you are suffering from a bad hair day!

Remember whatever you wear, feel fabulous in it and wear it with a smile!

Blue Magic – A Lane Bryant Review

I love being able to blend work wear into my casual style. We can’t all afford to have totally separate wardrobes for day wear and night attire. These days I tend to be all over the place a meeting here, a dinner there. It’s not often that I have the chance to go home and change from location number one before I’m required at location two. For me the busy schedules and numerous commitments can make styling your looks be somewhat of a challenge sometimes. I work in a customer facing role where how you present yourself can be just as important as how you present the products you’re selling. Luckily in my case I am able to incorporate my wardrobe into my work life making it easier when shopping and selecting my outfits in the morning.

I have said many times on this blog how much I love the colour blue and that whenever I see anything in the colour I’m instantly drawn to it. When I first saw this Embellished Button Back Tee from Lane Bryant it was a must have item for me! This was something I knew I could wear to work at the office and still add a casual twist to the look to make it wearable at any time. Despite the fact that blue is my favourite; I definitely don’t own enough items in the colour so when I do see one I like it’s always a positive thing for me.

The Tee has a black panel at the back and small buttons all the way down the back. With a lightweight feel I have worn this top with a pencil skirt at work, jeans and leggings. The short sleeves make this one I like to match with jackets. Seeing as it’s getting colder by the day the extra coverage is more than welcome in my case.

I took these pictures on a pretty weird London day. With the constant stop-start game the clouds were playing making it rain every other hour it was hard to know what to wear. I decided that even though I had an umbrella to hand I would wear a hat so as not to get the front of my hair wet. I pulled out an old sequin beret that I bought from Primark years ago and the colour was just right to compliment the tee. A simple black pair of leggings was my next choice. To finish off the look I pulled on my PU Biker Jacket from Yours Clothing and slipped on my Shawberry Boots from Hotter. After adding my mandatory hoop earrings and necklace I was ready and set.

When I was going through the pictures for this post I got to think about what we mean when we call something a staple piece of clothing. Some people would refer to a staple item as something basic that we all own like plain black top or something like that. For me a staple piece of clothing is an item that I can incorporate into a series of outfits and even wear across different styles. This Lane Bryant Tee for me is one of those items not only because of the colour but because of the cut and fit. The material makes this one hang nicely against your frame. The sheer material is really soft against the skin and doesn’t cling tightly in any area. I got this one in a size 22/24 which for me worked out really well due to the buttons at the back. A smaller size most definitely would have fit but one or two of the buttons may have gaped ever so slightly. If like me you have think about the size of your bust or if you have any back fat then you might want to up size in this one.

You know what I always say, go through your wardrobe! Pull things out, see what items work together either through colours, prints and fabrics and see if you can get at least 2 different looks out of some of your clothes. This will not only give you more outfits to play with on a smaller budget you’ll also get a proper wear out of your clothes. In my case I like to have items I can wear either across seasons or items that look stylish and chic both during the day and night. You might find some cool combinations that you hadn’t thought of previously.

Remember what ever you where, feel fabulous in it and where it with a smile!

Breaking All The Rules!

I hate that society feels that people can be told how they should dress. Fashion isn’t just about fabrics you throw across your body; we are able to express ourselves and experiment through the way that we dress. Those of you who are familiar with my style will know that I tend to wear whatever takes my fancy. I own glamorous and traditional pieces, modern and edgy items and I have a deep affection for vintage clothing. Having said all of that I hate reading comments like “big girls shouldn’t wear stripes”, “those fabrics aren’t flattering on a bigger girl” etc. etc. In truth I have seen people of all shapes and sizes wear clothes that perhaps the wider majority would disapprove of and whilst some things may not be to my taste I love that people feel free and experimental with fashion.

Sometimes it’s fun to play around with how you mix and match clothes and I like to do this a lot. Through experimentation I have started to find out what really works for me and what I feel great in. When I pulled this outfit together it was with the help of my good friend Hanna from The Wardrobe Challenge. I love her sense of dress and the way that she puts separates together. I said to her that I really want something unpredictable to go with my pleather waistcoat from Yours Clothing size 22/24.

She let me try out her pleated midi skirt from F&F clothing by Tesco size 22, and I absolutely loved the look and fit of the garment. Unfortunately this print is no longer available so I was lucky enough to be able to borrow Hanna’s. What I like about this skirt the most is the length. Very reminiscent of a 1940s-1950s tea skirt I was instantly drawn to this one. What made it different to skirts from that era was the chiffon fabric used. Usually we’re told that horizontal stripes for big girls is a definite no no but I have to say to whoever made up that rule, I think they’re crazy! Some people think that wearing stripes in that direction can make a person look a lot wider than they are. In my opinion I think that as long as the fit is OK this isn’t going to be an issue. I know one thing it hasn’t stopped me from picking out items with the classic pattern.

Paired with an oversized tee shirt from Zizzi I found the winning outfit. Sometimes I like going for minimalist colours and sticking to black and white and that’s actually one of the things I enjoy most about this look. I think what’s cool about this look is that even though it lacks in colour, it has a lot going on. With a mixture of fabrics from cotton, chiffon and pleather there are many different elements which come together to form the final look. From vintage pinup to rock chick I think the combination is fun and fresh and definitely a look I will try to replicate in the future.

I decided I would keep accessories very simple and wear a simple drop necklace with lilac colour disk and my signature hoop earrings. Any style of classic black or white shoe would have worked for this look but I opted for a simple ballerina pump.

The more I build on my style repertoire and the more I discover about what’s available on the market; my desicion to just do whatever I want is made. I see some of the most gorgeous garments out there and I won’t cut my nose off to spite my face by leaving items on the racks just because I have been told by society that I shouldn’t wear a certain fabric or print. As I have mentioned in previous posts you may see an item and not know what to do with it but you never know a look may present itself to you or you may decide to play around and come up with the perfect outfit.

Play around, take risks and remember, >whatever you where, feel fabulous in it and where it with a smile!

Golden Delicious!

I used to be scared of wearing clothes that glistened and sparkled. I think it comes down to that ever long list of rules that we plus size people are supposed adhere to when dressing ourselves. The thing is it feels good to wear something pretty that blings and that’s how I feel about this gorgeous Gold Baroque Peplum Top from Pink Clove. I think it’s always a good idea to have something in the wardrobe that be worn both casually and dressy and this item most definitely can feature well in the two styles.

I really like the way that this top feels against the skin, the soft velvety texture makes this one a good choice for pretty much any season. I know that I will be wearing this one in the colder months too and quite possibly on a night out for drinks with friends or something. I have this one in a size 24 which gives me more than enough boob room and it doesn’t cling to my upper arms either (which is always a plus point!). There is a fair amount of stretch in this one but depending on your dimensions you may want to up or downsize if you have a slightly larger bust or belly. I didn’t want to have to wear any shapewear or anything with this one and as the material has that sheen to it I thought it best to go a little looser on the fit.

I was aiming for a sleek and casual look when I put this outfit together so I decided to pair this top with a simple pair of dark washed Demin Jeggings from Yours Clothing. For me it’s important not to compromise on comfort when I pick my outfits so I like things to often be a little loose in areas especially in the bum and tummy areas. I am wearing a size 26 which is a size up for me when it comes to yours leggings. I think a bigger size can often look better with clothes that either have a thick or elasticated waist band that sits at the waist, as they don’t cling to the unwanted areas which can result in bulging.

I thought I would keep it simple when it came to completing the look so I pulled out a classic pair of black heels, my trusted twisted gold hoop earrings and my lovely necklace. Sometimes your clothes are statement pieces that will be the focal point to an outfit and I found that the Pink Clove Peplum top is one of those items so I thought it best to keep everything else simple.

Remember whatever you wear, feel fabulous in it and KEEP SMILING!

One T-Shirt Two Looks!

When it comes to shopping I try my utmost to buy items that I can use in many different outfits. I often buy simple and plain staple pieces that I can make adaptations with or use in a variety of different styles. Recently I picked up two long sleeved t-shirts, both exactly the same only in different colour ways from Yours Clothing at the combined cost of £12, a total bargain or at £8 each. I decided to do a bit of a mix and match session with some of the items in my wardrobe and I came up with 2 simple looks; one causal and the other a little more dressy.
Look number 1: Casual Chic
I decided to go really causal with this look. Sometimes you just want to be able to throw on something simple that you’ll feel comfortable doing the day to day tasks in. This is an outfit I could wear to work or just chilling in. I paired the tee with a simple pair of black jeans from the New Look Inspire range. With accessories I decided to add a large black handbag from Primark, simple silver bangles, hoop earnings, steel link choker and flat shoes.
Look 2: Sassy & Sophisticated
The funny thing about this look is that the changes are minor in comparison to look number 1. A simple tube skirt, tights and platform heels suddenly make an otherwise casual look a lot more dressy and sophisticated looking. The classic dogtooth print skirt is my favourite piece in this outfit!
After a recent blogger purchase from the gorgeous Hanna over at The Wardrobe Challenge this item is now a part of my collection. The skirt, originally from Excite Clothing feels amazing on and the length is really nice, as you can see I have worn this one over the t-shirt with the elasticated waist just under the bust line. I decided to wear the exact same accessories with the two outfits to highlight how a simple tweak can totally change the look of an outfit. A slight adjustment for this look was simply rolling up the sleeves, again the small tweaks can totally make the difference!
Overall the fit of the t-shirt is a really nice one. It simply sweeps over my frame comfortably with no tight spots anywhere. I picked this one up in a size 22/24. I wanted something with a loose fit that would compliment pretty much any pair of trousers or leggings. I could have gone for the size down but I often like bigger t-shirts as ones in my usual size can often cling tightly across the bust line which can look pretty hot, but sometimes I like to wear something a little more discreet, especially if I plan on wearing it to work.

Rockabilly Meets Rock Chick

Recently I have been trying to switch things up in my wardrobe. One of the things that I hate the most about the winter months is the fact that most of the warm and comfortable clothes out there end up being dark, lifeless and to be honest quite boring!

I wanted to find a way to put my usual 1950s flair into a more modern day casual look. Unable to wear my circle skirts and swing dresses due to the piercing cold temperatures and dreary wet days I opted for a mix of rock chick chic and classic rockabilly.

I decided to pull together my look with my classic White Dolores Top from Collectif, Wine Studded Cardigan from Excite Clothing and Black Rouched leggings from Yours Clothing. To add that extra touch of vintage chic I selected my red polka dot scarf from Collectif. I had been waiting for a moment to wear it and I liked the way it accented the outfit. I wore my black cinch belt from Primark with gold clasp to compliment the studded shoulders of the cardigan and gold hoop earrings. Black platform heels finished off the look.
Outfit Pieces:

When it comes to these individual items the thing I love about all of them is that they have become staple pieces in my wardrobe. Each item has a versatility that makes it accessible to a variety of styles. Take the Dolores Top for example. This is one that could be paired with jeans, pedal pushers, shorts and a variety of different skirt styles. The cut and shape is vintage but it lends itself to several modern looks. I picked this up in a size 20, as this is the top half of the Dolores Doll dresses that I love so much so I knew the size would be just right but if I wanted something a little less tailored I would have got this one in a 22.
What I loved about the Studded Cardigan the most was the length and the shoulders. I love the fact that I can wear a warm, comfortable and stylish cardigan with interesting adornments that again can be dressed either up or down. I have also worn this one with a simple cami and black leggings. The Cardigan was a size 20/22. I wanted there to be room, but for this one to have a more snug fit so that I could wear it with the kind of tops showcased in this post.
All of these items are still available from the relevant sites and you can switch them up in pretty much any way. If I wanted to take the vintage style to the next level I would style my hair in the rockabilly fashion either putting a quiff or victory rolls in my bangs, wearing cherry or pearl accessories and patent shoes. If I decided to veer more towards the rock chick look then I would most likely wear a studded clutch or handbag, heavy smokey make up and black acrylic jewellery.
If any of you pick up any of these items I’d love to see how you put your outfits together!

Black Sparkle! A Review Of The Black Sequin Shift Dress By Yours Clothing

Towards the end of last year there were a series of fabulous parties, events and friendly gatherings that took place. One thing that we all like to do when meeting our friends for dinner, heading to a party or when we hit the clubs is to look glamours. I am a firm believer that you can’t go wrong when you have a bit of sparkle in your wardrobe, and it was this need for something that glimmers which had me picking up the Black Sequin Shift Dress from Yours Clothing.

What drew me to this one is the simplicity in it’s style. Sometimes I like to look glammed up but not to the point of being over dressed. I loved the length of this one as it just skims the knees and clings in all the right places, showcasing my curves and concealing the areas I’d rather cover up. The material is soft and extremely comfortable to wear and I think it’s one that can be worn at any special occasion or fun night out.
The dress has a cut out in the back which nicely covers the back band of your bra offering another dimension to the design and giving it that little something extra. I decided to also pick up the Cap Sleeve Jersey Shrug With Seam Detailing  from Yours Clothing to pair with this one. As some of you may know I feel more comfortable with the tops of my arms covered and I also thought it might make the dress a little warmer during the cold holiday season. The shrug is a silky soft material that slips on really nicely and feels great on.

I decided to wear this one with a pair of the Black Ruched Hem Leggings they sell also. These feel fantastic on, are fantastic quality and make for a great staple piece in any wardrobe. And even better news, you can buy two pairs for just £16 or one for £10

You could pair this one with tights or of course wear on it’s own. For me I was aiming for a classic all in black look with a silver accessories. Heeled lace pumps finished off the look and I have to say I have worn this dress a couple of times now and it always looks fantastic on. As a side note this one washes really well also.

This one is also available in gold and is currently on sale reduced from a fantastic £35 down to £15 so be sure to pick up yours before all the available sizes run out!

Flock Skater Dress And PU Side Panel Leggings – A Yours Clothing Review

For a very long time the name Yours Clothing has popped up when I have searched for “plus size clothes at a great price”. I had glanced at their website many times in the past, and I always wanted to pop down to one of their branches to try on some of the clothes before taking the plunge and making a purchase. After speaking with a friend on Instagram who was wearing a gorgeous dress from the site I decided to take another look at the site and see what was on offer.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that the clothes were not only bang on trend but there were loads of items that I really had my eyes on! I decided to take advantage of the current discounts on offer and I placed an order. My selection was the Black PU leggings with side panel and the Red And Black Short Sleeve Flock Print Skater Dress from the ‘Limited Collection’.

Both items are still available on the website and in stores. The dress retails at £30 and is also available in purple. The leggings £12.50
I have to say I absolutely love this outfit! The dress is fantastic quality, the flock print detail is in a soft velvety material 95% Viscose and 5% Elastane. The dress skims over the curves perfectly and feels so soft against the skin. This is one that is fantastic for the autumn/winter months and can be worn as a simple dress or paired with leggings or tights. The material has a fair amount of stretch and sits nicely on the bust. You could wear this one with a cinch belt if you wanted to enhance the curvature of the waist.  I will be honest, I don’t think it needs it as it’s such a nice fabric and a great fit! I ordered this dress in a size 22 as I like a fair amount of room in my dresses so that I can feel comfortable in the boob area but there is a fair amount of stretch as I said before so you may want to go by your exact size, this dress would have fit perfectly fine in a 20 if I wanted to buy it a size smaller.
The leggings are a fantastic fit and they feel extremely comfortable and warm on. I always worry about picking leggings because I find that depending on the pair you buy they can stretch across your behind and go a little see-through. I’m not one for showing everyone what under garments I have on so I was happy to see that this pair was just the right thickness to give me full coverage.

You could accessories this outfit in many ways with gold, black or silver adornments such as bangles, chokers or necklaces. I like to pair this one with my black suede jacket and platform heels. There are so many possibilities!
I have to say I will definitely be picking up more items from Yours Clothing and I’m glad that I finally took the plunge and tried out some of their items!
