Relaxed Summer Style – An Evans Clothing Review

*All Items Worn Have Been Gifted

Summer is drawing to a close and we are being treated to the odd day of sunshine. As Autumn is starting to creep in we are in one of those transitional periods when selecting items for our wardrobe can get a little tricky. I am currently still trying to battle some of my former confidence issues and with that I aim to continue to push myself out of my comfort zone, until things get comfortable for me that is. Many of you who are familiar with my blog will know that I don’t like showing off my upper arms. My biceps have always been one of my problem areas and I have tried to pick out clothes to force me to go bare armed. I find that when I do things to push myself in a different direction, I tend to end up liking the way that part of my body looks.

Hanna and I recently took a trip to Evans in London’s Marble Arch to check out the current collections and select a few items for review. I saw this emerald green tunic from Live Unlimited and really wanted to try it out. The thickness of the shoulders and the cut of the garment is one that I knew would flatter my shape really nicely. The included pockets are a bonus too as they are deep enough to store your phone, purse and your lipstick! I’m wearing this in a size size 24.

Green isn’t a colour that I have bought a lot of over the years. I really like how certain shades of green bring out the golden tones in my complexion but I haven’t been lucky enough to find that many items I like. I really enjoy wearing this tunic as it’s comfortable, spacious and a great length. I thought it would be nice to pair this one with a pair of wide leg trousers for a relaxed summer look. I opted for this pair of white, wide legged linen trousers, I’m wearing these in a size 24. I love the lightness and the easiness of these 2 items worn together. For a really comfortable and simple look that is really nice in this transitional period, these items work really well together. The richness of the green really makes the white pop.

Tackling a bad hair day I opted for my black fringed hair scarf. I love having hair-wear that works with pretty much everything in my wardrobe, and so I have been collecting bandanas and scarves for several years now.

To finish off the outfit I pulled out my nude patent open toe heels. I think everyone woman should own a pair of nude heels as they work with so many colours and can offset a look in a different way to classic black shoes.

I love my silver jewellery it’s no secret that’s in my preferred shade when it comes to accessories. I really like the contrast between my skin tone and the sparkly silver. My signature hoops were a must and were complimented nicely by my caged stone necklace, this one is currently available from the Dorothy Perkins website in a rose gold. You may still find the silver version in selected stores however. Finished off with this square cuff bangle from Topshop and my outfit was just as I wanted it.

I kept my makeup to it’s usual style and added a sparkly pink lipgloss from Rimmel. I opted for a deep green silk finish polish from Barry M on my nails. I have recently become obsessed with nail polish and have racked up quite a collection! More will be revealed soon on the blog…

So you know what I always say, aim to have clothes that are suitable for all occasions and moods. Separates can make this idea easier to achieve. I find that with separate items I can wear some things that were meant for the previous season into the next one, if matched with something carefully. I dress to my mood and comfort level so although I sometimes love to wear a fitted outfit or have my cleavage on show, there are times when I just like to keep it simple with a little something extra for style.

Remember whatever you wear, feel fabulous in it and wear it with a smile!

Simple, Fabulous, Shimmering Gold!

Ever had one of those moments when you have no idea what to wear? Either the choices are infinite or you simply hate everything in the wardrobe! I am 100% sure that every woman has found themselves in this situation!
I decided to put myself to the test and see how fast I could pick out an outfit! My reason, my schedule these days can be pretty unpredictable and a few times I have been caught short and unable to decide on what to wear! It’s not all the time we can have our perfect outfit preselected right?
My task was to pick something with a bit of glitz and glam. On my way home from work yesterday I decided that I would see what I could do outfit wise in the space of 5 minutes! I quickly ran through my wardrobe in my mind (or least what I could remember owning) and decided I was going to wear a skirt of some kind.
By the time I got home I quickly leafed through my skirts and stumbled across a black pencil skirt by So Fabulous with shimmering gold front and back panel; I had my glitz quickly taken care of!
I decided that I would keep the skirt as the focal point to my outfit and so I picked a simple black tunic with V front detail that I picked up from Simplybe about a hundred years ago lol. That’s the thing I love about staple pieces, you can make them work for you pretty much all the time and can play around with them however you want! I tucked it into the skirt, added a Primark cinch belt and I was good to go! If had a pair of gold heels I may have worn them as another accent to the ensemble but you guys know me I love my black heels!
We all have our signature accessories and 2 that I have used for many years now are large hoop earrings and hair scarves. I have always loved hoop earrings as they are simple, timeless and work with almost everything! We ladies often have those days when nothing works and you simply can’t tame those locks. For this reason I find hair scarves to be a complete god send! They save me when I need to get my routes done or I’m simply short for time and can’t spend 45 minutes with the straighteners. As my theme for this outfit with simple and fabulous I thought these accessories were fitting and once again quick to select and get on!

In Full Bloom, A Review Of The Bloom Tunic From Taking Shape

When I first came across the company Taking Shape it was their interesting smart and sophisticated style that set them apart from some of the other plus size brands. The focus of the company is to give their customers a variety of different looks that can be worn for pretty much any event or occasion.

When I was offered the chance to review a couple of the items in their collection, the Bloom Tunic was one of the items that really caught my eye. I knew that I would be able to wear this one to work, out and about and that it had the versatility to be dressed up or down. Available in teal and red I found both colour ways to be rich and warm, perfect for this time of year and the floral accents were just right during this period of transition between winter and spring.

The sleeveless tunic is such a sweet and comfortable item. I love the way that it flows right the way down to the knees with an asymmetrical cut. What I liked most about this piece is that I found it to be the kind of top that can worn during pretty much any season. It feels so comfortable on and is a mix of polyester and elastane. Coated in sheer flowers what is a simple design has a little edge to it.
One of the things that a lot of us bigger women like to do is cover up the tops of our arms. I hate to say it but I too fit in to this category so I paired this with a black sheer shirt with 3 quarter length sleeves that has been in my wardrobe for a few years now. Taking Shape themselves have styled this one with a long sleeve t-shirt on their website to showcase another adaptation to the piece. I teamed this one up with simple black leggings, black heels and very simple jewellery with just earnings. I have worn this piece to work and I took it down a level with black ugg style shoes, black long sleeved t-shirt and simple black winter coat. If you wanted to add a little something extra to this one you could wear heavy bangles, and accessories to match the colouring.
I got this one in a size 20 which fits perfectly with plenty of room. Taking Shape are more than generous with their sizing so depending on the look and fit you want to achieve you may wish to go down a size.
