Invasion Of The Killer Curves – A Nicky Rockets Review

*This t-shirt was a gifted item

The past few years has seen some really interesting twists and turns for the plus size community. We have seen a huge surge of people championing body confidence and trying to push the envelope with how we treat ourselves and how we wish to be treated by society. Those of you who are familiar with my blog will know that I am a huge advocate for body confidence. I like to see women of all shapes and sizes making the most of what they have and doing so with style and finesse. Now I must state (as people love to make presumptions) I’m not here to promote obesity by any means, I personally would like to lose some weight but I figure whilst I am the shape and size that I am, I may as well enjoy myself and embrace what’s out there with my beauty and style options.

Recently we have seen a whole host of new brands sweep onto the market and for the first time plus size women are being spoilt for choice when it comes to fashion. I have never had so many fabrics, colours and prints in my wardrobe before and I have to say I am loving it! I will say this though, there are still some elements to my old style that I simply can’t drop and that is my love of t-shirts. I used to wear my t-shirts in a pretty safe and understated way and it was my mission last year to try and incorporate them into some of my most stylish outfits. One woman who knows a lot about how to play with t-shirt styles is Betty Pamper. Winner of last year’s Best Blogger award at the British Plus Size Awards, MUA and business woman there’s not a lot Betty isn’t involved in. She and husband Nicky created an amazing line of plus size t-shirts that not only have a fun alternative edge, these tees are also a really fun and fresh way for plus women to embrace their curves and show the world that they look hot doing it! Check out the entire collection here. At the recent cupcake party and photoshoot Betty I took part in last weekend for Scarlett & Jo; we spent a lot of time talking about the plus industry and how fashion for plus women has changed over the years. Betty then said that she would send me one of the t-shirts from the collection, and even in the middle of a busy shoot I was thinking about how I might style it.

With all the recent changes and developments in the plus arena it’s pretty befitting that one of the leading designs from Nicky Rockets is the very t-shirt I had to get my hands on. Who could resist a design with a hot and curvy chick which reads ‘Invasion Of The Killer Curves‘! The simple black and white design was one I could definitely incorporate into a monochrome look! Slashed t-shirts have always been my thing, I used to buy t-shirts and cut them across the shoulders, so to be able to get a t-shirt that is already slashed in the right place is definitely a bonus and brings with it that cool 1980s flair that I really love! The t-shirt is also available in ladies fit, round neck and in a vest format and comes in sizes S – 4XL so there’s something to suit everyone. The fit of these tees is true to size and the fabric is a really strong yet soft material.

I decided to pair mine with my Contrast PU Leggings from Misguided, size 24. When styling t-shirts I like to add a little something extra to take it from being a simple casual item to a more stylish one. The pleather fronts of these leggings for me provide a little bit of rock edge and also comes in handy this time of year as they’re really warm to wear. I of course had include a houndstooth print where possible so my new Black Dogtooth Trim Shoe Boots from Evans were a must! To finish up I knew I had to add red lippy and so my ruby red glitter lips had to be worn (review to come soon). For accessories I wanted to wear something a little different so my so my steel and black diamonte chaps chocker and bracelet and black hair scarf completed my look.

I have to say it’s really nice to see people really appreciating and enjoying their curves and for the first time in a long time full figured bodies are really being celebrated so I’m sure that loads of you out there will want to get your hands on your own Rockets tee!

Remember whatever you wear, feel fabulous in it and wear it with a smile!

Beat It And Go Wild!

It’s no secret that I’m a huge Michael Jackson fan and a big part of my fanship to Michael is included in my wardrobe! Now that the sun has started to shine in London I am using the opportunity to bring out some of my MJ t-shirts and incorporate them into my summer style with a little flair. In a recent post of mine I decided to wear a tee in a more dressy way, this time I thought I would put a casual spin on things.

I thought I would wear a modern tee with a vintage look and pair it with a bright and fun skater skirt. The “Beat It” style t-shirt which is currently available from our online store King Of Shop is one that I think works with many different looks. Available in UK sizes 6-20 and at the current sale price of just £14! The world famous image used on record sleeves and vintage t-shirts all over the world has made a comeback and it’s one that all the ladies seem to enjoy wearing, especially me!

With the cute folded sleeves and red diamanté adornments this one that was most definitely going to be worn by me this season. I like to colour coordinate as many things as possible and so I thought I would wear my scarlet red lipstick and pair it with this red pleather skirt from Primark both items are in size 20.

It seems that music t-shirts are available this summer and I can only assume that with all the fun festivals happening over the next few weeks that many people will be wearing their chosen act…

As I have mentioned in the past I used to just wear mine with a simple pair of jeans for comfort and ease but I really want to show that you can have fun when styling t-shirts. For this one I could have gone a totally different way and used the teal colours in the t-shirt to help me complete the look. Pastels are huge at the moment so maybe a turquoise clutch or nail polish would look cool. Teal or Turqouise leggings or jeans would have been a cool way to go also. I guess my love of vintage styles had me reaching for the red pinup colours with this one lol.

At King Of Shop we have decided to showcase that the King Of Pop can and should be worn with serious style and flair in our Respect Your Monarch campaign. Fans and friends alike are all taking pics wearing MJ in fun and fashion forward ways and you’ll be seeing more posts like this from me in the near future.

If any of you are wearing music tees this season I’d love to see who your chosen picks are and how you’ve made them work with your style. Feel free to drop me an email or a message so I can see what you’ve come up with!

One T-Shirt Two Looks!

When it comes to shopping I try my utmost to buy items that I can use in many different outfits. I often buy simple and plain staple pieces that I can make adaptations with or use in a variety of different styles. Recently I picked up two long sleeved t-shirts, both exactly the same only in different colour ways from Yours Clothing at the combined cost of £12, a total bargain or at £8 each. I decided to do a bit of a mix and match session with some of the items in my wardrobe and I came up with 2 simple looks; one causal and the other a little more dressy.
Look number 1: Casual Chic
I decided to go really causal with this look. Sometimes you just want to be able to throw on something simple that you’ll feel comfortable doing the day to day tasks in. This is an outfit I could wear to work or just chilling in. I paired the tee with a simple pair of black jeans from the New Look Inspire range. With accessories I decided to add a large black handbag from Primark, simple silver bangles, hoop earnings, steel link choker and flat shoes.
Look 2: Sassy & Sophisticated
The funny thing about this look is that the changes are minor in comparison to look number 1. A simple tube skirt, tights and platform heels suddenly make an otherwise casual look a lot more dressy and sophisticated looking. The classic dogtooth print skirt is my favourite piece in this outfit!
After a recent blogger purchase from the gorgeous Hanna over at The Wardrobe Challenge this item is now a part of my collection. The skirt, originally from Excite Clothing feels amazing on and the length is really nice, as you can see I have worn this one over the t-shirt with the elasticated waist just under the bust line. I decided to wear the exact same accessories with the two outfits to highlight how a simple tweak can totally change the look of an outfit. A slight adjustment for this look was simply rolling up the sleeves, again the small tweaks can totally make the difference!
Overall the fit of the t-shirt is a really nice one. It simply sweeps over my frame comfortably with no tight spots anywhere. I picked this one up in a size 22/24. I wanted something with a loose fit that would compliment pretty much any pair of trousers or leggings. I could have gone for the size down but I often like bigger t-shirts as ones in my usual size can often cling tightly across the bust line which can look pretty hot, but sometimes I like to wear something a little more discreet, especially if I plan on wearing it to work.

Off The Wall Ladies T-Shirt Now In Plus Size

It’s no secret that I am a HUGE Michael Jackson fan and many of you know that myself and the other members of the King Of Shop team are always trying to bring out new styles and a variety of items in apparel. I am so excited to let you all know that we are trialling a new line of plus size t-shirts!
Most of the official t-shirts to come from Triumph International and/or Bravado come in the standard S, M, L and XL with a standard round neck. Many of our customers have been emailing us and asking for different size styles and neck types and I personally am really happy to let you all know that many ladies fit t-shirts have come to the site for petite ladies and for some of the ladies shaped like myself… PLUS SIZE! I can’t contain my excitement!
In the plus size range the sizes are available in 2XL, 3XL, 4XL and 5XL. In these pics I wear a 2xl shirt. A standard XL fits me fine but I wanted that extra chest room for my bust. Depending on your proportions you may decide to size up or down.
What I love about this design in particular is that it celebrates one of the best albums to ever be recorded. Off The Wall is a much loved album for all Michael fans and many music loves worldwide. The world famous image used makes this one a classic design that has been received by fans for the past few years.
The t-shirt is available at just £17 and would be a nice casual piece for the spring and summer season. Get yours here while stocks last!

Hip Hop Monochrome – A Different Kind Of Casual

With so many trends that are poppin at the moment one of the ones I am seriously getting into is the monochrome look. There are several ways you can play around with this one and I have already picked up some interesting pieces which I will of course be showing you all right here on the blog over the next few posts.

I have been getting rather glammed up recently and I thought I’d take it down a notch and find a way to incorporate my casual style into the trend. Music is one of my biggest loves and passions and recently I have been hitting the clubs and enjoying some of the Hip Hop sounds of late.
Statement and logo t-shirts have been hitting all of the high street stores and when I found this Parental Advisory T in Primark I quickly snapped it up! I got the size 20 for an amazing £7! The quality and fit is really good, it feels lightweight on and hugs my figure perfectly which made this one a hot one to wear at the club last night.

The trousers were another fab find from Asos in their Curve range and are currently on sale! The Jersey Peg Trouser with Side Stripe has been reduced from £18 down to £7, total bargain! As I wore this to the club I decided to add simple flat black shoes to the look. I would have worn heels to add that extra feminine flair but as I was out to get my dance on I decided to play it safe.

Trying to keep my difficult and unruly hair at bay I added a silk black and white striped scarf to the look to add that extra street style I was looking for. My big hoop earnings complete the look but I think the next time I wear this one I may wear more silver jewellery with silver bangles and maybe a chain or 2.
