Jump To It – A Studio 8 Review

There are some clothing options that tend to put the fear of dread into the average big girl, it seems that jumpsuits would be one of these options. Many women out there tend to avoid wearing jumpsuits because there is a worry of having too much of an exposed belly, protruding muffin top or a rather visible camel toe! I can honestly see why the concerns are there with clothing items like these because when it comes to buying an all-in-one item as a larger lady, there are many things to be considered….

We all come in different shapes and sizes, heights and profiles. My personal concern whenever I buy an item like this is that I have plenty of room for my boobs, booty and stomach. It’s important for me to have plenty of comfort in the upper arm area also. As a 5’5 (165cm tall) woman I fit the average height but, many of my peers are on the taller side of things and this can make selecting an item like this a challenge! For those of us who enjoy a jumpsuit, buying one can make you feel like Goldilocks in search for the perfect bowl of porridge; we all want that one that is “just right”. There isn’t a woman alive who doesn’t want to feel fabulous in her clothes and anything that can impede that feeling of unquestionable confidence can result in a multitude of problems!
Ladies everywhere have reported on some jumpsuits being too long, too short, or that the rise is too high in the crotch. The general consensus is usually that there is something preventing the item from fitting perfectly!

Recently I was at a AW17 preview for the upcoming collections by Navabi and Studio 8. Every autumn and winter offering there are a series of dark coloured items to suit the party season and the colder days to come. Studio 8, a brand known for sophisticated style and high quality always have a variety of styles to offer and, one of the items on display was this Navy Claudia Jumpsuit. The rich colour and gold belt immediately caught my eye and I wanted to try it on! I have recently taken the view that I shouldn’t make assumptions when it comes to what may or may not suit me; I find that the best thing to do is to just be quiet, shut up and try on the item lol.

I was really impressed with the fit of this one, the length was perfect for me and I instantly knew that I could wear it with shoes or heels and, not have the hems of the trouser legs drag against the floor. I find that a lot of jumpsuits are made with really long legs that need to be hemmed. I love that there are discreet pockets with enough space for your phone, lippy and credit cards! The scoop neckline makes for a modest item that can be worn on a date night, at the office, to a party or any other event you might fancy. The wide set-elbow sleeves are extremely comfortable and for ladies like myself who have larger upper arms this is a really nice touch, I’m wearing this one in a size 24 and should note that it is true to size.
The gold belt is elasticated and makes for a really nice adornment, I actually have worn this jumpsuit with the belt unfastened at times. I find that it looks like 2 gold pins on either side of the waist band and can slightly switch up the look.

Those of us on a budget often find that multi-purpose items are must. When buying something of a slightly higher price point, they can serve as an investment item to last many years. Often I speak about how your clothing can change or enhance your mood and this item is definitely one that brings out a different side of my personality. I feel super sexy, elegant and womanly in this item even though I’m nearly covered from head to toe without a hint of cleavage! I find that I can feel sexy in many different items but, it’s not often that having everything covered bar my face and forearms can achieve this!

When I wear a deep navy or a black outfit I always go for a blood red lippy! I love how the red works against my complexion and as I tend to wear pinup, vintage style makeup this brings out that sassy, feminine side of my personality. I thought I’d go the extra mile and wear my red lip clutch bag to add a little more colour to the look. As the jumpsuit has that element of gold I thought I’d wear my gold hoop earrings and champagne heels from a previous collection by Hotter to finish things off!
For those of you looking for the perfect jumpsuit with great style and quality you have to check out the current range from Studio 8, this one is currently on sale too!

Thea Jungle Queen

Dress Is A Gifted Item*

It’s funny how you can see an item of clothing and it can look totally different on you compared to someone else. I was recently at a fashion event with Navabi and Studio 8 and like all other fashion events, there are usually stands full of clothes everywhere and sometimes the opportunity to try them on for yourself. I’ve never been a huge wearer of the colour green. I don’t have much of it in my wardrobe, in fact I would go as far as to say I have maybe 3-4 items in total! The thing is though I simply had to try on the Thea dress from Studio 8!

I’m not really sure why green is a colour I don’t gravitate towards because I always enjoy wearing it and I enjoy how it looks against my complexion. I really like this dress as I think it’s a great multipurpose item. I found it a really comfortable wear on the day that I took these photos. In the hot summer sun it was a really nice item and not uncomfortable in the heat even though it’s lined. I also think this would be a great dress to wear to work and/or out for the evening. The thick shoulders allow for a comfortable and modest fit which works with most bra styles. The triangular modesty panel in the front is really nice if you want something with less cleavage exposed. The hem sits just across the tops of my calves and is a really nice cut for my 5’5 frame.

I decided to wear this one with a simple pair of cork wedges and a black handbag. Everyone who knows me knows that coordination is my thing and is something I always do with my outfits, colour coordination that is. I guess it’s a Caribbean trait that is well and truly in my DNA lol. I thought it would be cool to pick out colours and tones within the dress and select the rest of outfit around them. Despite not owning a lot of green items I have bandanas and hair scarves in most colours so I dug out my green bandana and thought it would make a nice addition to the outfit. Combined with my signature hoop earrings and my  Ted Baker Belle Tortoiseshell glasses I was more than ready for a hot summer day.

Don’t limit your fashion choices when it comes to cuts, colours or even fabrics you’ll be surprised with some of the things that not only look and feel great on but; how they make you feel when wearing them. I like to dress to my mood and so I have all manner of clothes in my wardrobe! I look forward to selecting more items from Studio 8 in the future as I had only included some of their accessories in my collection previously. Check out their website to see some of the newest selections they have available.

My Winter Pinup Style

It’s just a few days before Christmas and the city of London is buzzing with people doing their last minute shopping, catching up with friends and taking some much needed personal time before the holiday season really takes flight in just a few days! Yesterday I went out for lunch with my girlies Hanna and Isha for a catchup that was long overdue and, I had a little bit of Christmas shopping to do myself.

I already knew that I wanted to wear a vintage dress yesterday when I woke up. Usually I reserve my vintage looks for the summer as I can be more fun and playful with them but, I just couldn’t resist taking my dusky blue Dolores doll dress out for another spin this year. The dolores doll is my favourite cut of vintage swing dress and is of course from Collectif clothing. I wear this dress in a size 20. Some of you may remember my bright summer look which featured this dress…

This time around I knew that I wanted to warm up my look and so I added a pair of black tights, the new fuller figure tights from Primark are amazing, definitely worth a try if you haven’t already! I thought that the grey tones in the dress would compliment my hot pink cardigan from Fashion World really nicely. Topping off my look with my new hot pink beret and favourite shade of pink lipstick my look was complete. I of course opted to wear my Michelle heels again from Hotter.

Luckily the weather isn’t freezing cold at the moment, usually this time of year in London the air is icy and mountains of layers are required to stay warm! For additional coverage and a little warmth I finished off my look with my Dietrich coat in powder blue, originally from Collectif and this gorgeous check scarf from studio 8.

I have a thing about bringing colour into my winter looks. I find that too many options are drab and lifeless during the winter and so, this is my way of having a little fun with my look. I will say this, many brands are introducing more colour options in their winter offerings which is more than welcome if you ask me! I get inspiration from strange things this time of year, the colour of tinsel, the Christmas lights, things I see on the street…

I think we should always bring ourselves into our outfits and allow our clothes to showcase different elements of our personality. Have fun with your winter looks. I hope you all have an incredible Christmas and get to spend some quality time with your friends and loved ones xx
