The Sunny Side Of Blue

*The Jacket And Top Are Gifted Items

Finally spring is here! For the past few months we have been treated to and endless stream of cold days, muddy puddles and the general dregs of winter. I am definitely a summer baby in every sense of the word but, I really enjoy the spring time. It’s nice to witness the flowers blooming, bright and pretty colours flooding the streets and the general happy buzz that comes with the season. I love the fashions of the spring as there is always such a vast mix of styles between the transitions of winter into spring and of course, spring into summer. London has been through some weird times of late but it has been such a blessing to get some sunshine at last!

I was recently sent the most amazing jacket from In The Style Curve. The Tay blush waterfall drape tie waist jacket is a really soft jacket made in a stretchy material that works as a light cover-up for the season. The sleeves can be shortened with the button tie detail attached at the arms. This one works both open as a duster or closed for a different effect. I love the colour and I thought that even though the sun is shinning here in London there is a still a little bit of a chill in the air so this was a great addition to my outfit. The brand have a really fun and edgy collection this season so be sure to check it out!

Spring always gives us pastels and soft tones. I don’t own many pastels to be honest with you but I do have a fair amount of blues in my closet! I was recently sent the most gorgeous sleeves top from Navabi. The cotton Peplum top from the Manon Baptiste collection, a really light and comfortable item to wear that is bursting with style. The material is really breathable and soft to the touch and compliments stone wash and acid wash denim really well. Their current collection is full of fun and sweet items for the season so be sure to check it out. I thought i’d wear this top with a pair of light jeggings from a previous Simply Be collection. I pulled out my blue cork wedges put on my favourite pair of Ray-Ban aviators and I was ready and set to go!

I love that when the seasons change you can make some fun outfits with old items in your closet and some new ones. I can’t wait to have more sunny days as I have some other outfits in mind that I haven’t been able to wear as the weather hasn’t allowed for it just yet. Denim is the fabric of the season so there will no doubt be some fun and fresh items out there in the stores. I have seen some amazing previews of some embroidered items and fun accessories. I definitely hope to get more light shades of denim so that I can play around with some more summery styles.

Have fun with the change in the season. I always see this is a great time to express myself visually whether that be by having nice flowers in the house, creating fun and colourful meals or dressing in some fun and bright items. I can’t wait to get out my fun summer dresses but I will most definitely make the most of the denim that’s everywhere. We all have it in our wardrobes and we all enjoy wearing it so why not switch things up and take your look to the next level?

Remember whatever you wear, feel fabulous in it and wear it with a smile!

The One And Only MJ

So I tend to speak mostly about fashion and beauty here on the blog and I felt I should really share some of the other sides of myself with you guys more often. It’s no secret that music is my first and biggest love and passion. Some of you may or may not know but I used to sing professionally and have been writing and recording music since I was a child. Every musician out there has that one artist or performing act that just tipped things over the edge for them. That one performer no one else could come close to or even equal in stature and, more often than not the musician in question is their biggest inspiration when it comes to the work they create themselves. For me that artist has always been and will always be the King Of Pop, Michael Jackson.

Those who know me personally will know that I am a super fan of Michael, one that the fan community would dub a die hard. I have been a fan of Michael’s music since infancy and my love of the man and artist has never died out. In fact my fanship has expanded and grown in more ways than I can explain in one post and for a number of reasons. If I showed you guys some pictures from my adventures with the fans during Michael’s trips here to London, events, parties, going to the theatre with the King Of Pop himself and trips around the world you would see a whole other side of me (I may well share some of those with you one of these days!). Having said all of that I am still going to include fashion in this post, how could I not lol? There isn’t a fan of any major artist or music genre out there who doesn’t want to own a cool hoodie, t-shirt, cap or jacket of their favourite star. For me doing this as an MJ fan has been a struggle for many years…

Of course we always wear an MJ T-shirt when we can!

Being that I’m 28 years old I missed a lot of the glory days when it came to Michael. Bad, Dangerous and HIStory had all come and gone during the course of my childhood and of course Off The Wall and Thriller before I was even born! I was only able to enjoy the music and merchandise that was available back in the day and I unfortunately had to pick up a lot of my vinyls and things many years after these incredible albums were in the charts. By the time I was old enough to do the “fan” thing and travel around to try and meet Michael I was 18 years old and he hadn’t released an album for several years at the time. As you can imagine trying to buy an MJ T-shirt could not have been harder! At this time back in 2005 the online shopping bomb hadn’t quite taken off, eBay was pretty new and places to buy official collectors t-shirts were pretty slim. Of course bootleg options were around but even those were few and far between, usually one size only and not exactly female friendly lol. It’s no secret that I’m a larger woman and I have a pretty large bust. Because of this if I wore a tee with a photo or illustration of Michael his face would usually distort across my bust. Of course I proudly wore what I could get but I was never really able to have fun in an MJ T-shirt until 2009 when Michael sadly passed away. Previously fans had to pick up whatever second hand goods they could get at car boot sales, events and hand me downs from older friends.

In 2006 My best friends and I started an MJ fanclub and after some time were running websites, events and a magazine publication. We were given an amazing opportunity to handle some of Michael’s famous costumes working with Julien’s Auctions, at the Bush And Tompkins exhibition which was held at the Getty Images gallery. You can only imagine how incredible the experience was for us as fans and I definitely appreciate it as a fashion lover too! MJVibe and Iconic has since gone from strength to strength over the years. After a few years since launching our first website we were able to take things to another level with a fresh online presence and expansion. We were able to broker an incredible deal with Bravado, they were the official company who have been behind all of the amazing items that we have had since Michael’s passing. The official exhibition to commemorate Michael at The 02 had finished and they offered us the chance to buy all of the remaining merchandise and apparel that had initially been made for Michael’s ‘This Is It’ residency. The memorabilia was sold in the exhibition’s gift shop as the concert series was of course unable to take place. Of course we jumped at the chance to bring these products direct to the fans. This was major for us as we were able to bring official merchandise to the fans at a rate cheaper than nearly every online and in store retailer! I’m so thrilled about everything we have achieved over the years. King-Of-Shop is where it’s all happening and we have tons of t-shirts and collectables for fans all over to enjoy!

2 of my best friends Pez and Seb went over to Las Vegas to see the Cirque Du Soleil production of MJ One last year. The show is going from strength to strength and has been a big hit with the fans. The sad thing about it though is that since it’s opening the availability of official merchandise both wholesale and retail has dwindled and the options to source new things is pretty slim. Fans are having to rely on stores who still have old stock and what some have been able to source from what’s left out there in various warehouses and record stores. Of course this has meant that there has been a slight rise in bootleg merchandise. The boys however were able to source some great new items direct from the gift shop at MJ One and we are one of the only European and worldwide outlets to have some of the official and new items out there. Unfortunately the only new and official merchandise on the market are the products sold in the gift shop and there is no official online store to buy any of the memorabilia. There are sadly fans all over the world who are unable to get to Las Vegas who have been left without an outlet to buy new and official merchandise for quite some time now. Lucky for me the guys found a t-shirt that is specifically cut for ladies and available in all sizes!

I absolutely love this t-shirt and it has become one of my favourite MJ tees. I have so many I’ve lost count so this is saying a lot! I love the scoop neckline and loose fit feel. The fabric is really light weight and super soft and I love that the image of Michael used is from one of my favourite short films, the ending scene of Black Or White where we see Michael tap dancing in the street and morphing into a panther! The illustration was done by artist Nate Georgio for the cover art of MJ One. There is one short angel sleeve and a twisted sleeveless effect on the other arm, a really fun and funky little detail. The production title for the show is in a shinny gold of course complete with Michael’s autograph.

I decided that I would take on my own twist of a classic MJ look. In the short films to Bad, Speed Demon and Dirty Diana we see Michael adopt a tough biker look complete with skinny jeans, biker jacket and white tee! I thought my skinny ripped jeans from Evans would be a perfect fit and my old biker jacket from Simply Be. As MJ himself loved some sequins and a little sparkle so of course my glitter brogues were a must! Sometimes you just have to embrace your inner rock chic, in my case my inner MJ with a twist!

I’ve had a lot of fun over the years at MJ events, ALWAYS wearing an MJ T-shirt and I will continue to do so! I just hope that the options we get for apparel begin to improve soon because there isn’t a fan out there who is tired of wearing MJ, sticking their favourite hits on and dancing it up! As you guys know this isn’t the first time I’ve spoken about MJ on this blog but it is the first time I have shared this much of my history as a fan with you, I can assure you it won’t be the last lol!

Remember whatever you wear, feel fabulous in it and wear it with a smile!

I still have to get out to the states to see MJ One as the former MJ production by Cirque, Immortal was incredible! The good news though is that the boys and I will be throwing a huge bash on September 10th in London to celebrate an incredible album and era of music, Michael’s Dangerous! We will be having some incredible guests joining us including Grammy Award winning technical director and engineer Thom Russo, dancer and choreographer Yuko Sumida Jackson and Former SVP Marketing & Sales Manager at EPIC/SONY (Dangerous & HIStory) Era Dan Beck. We’d love to see you there! For ticket info, event schedule and more check out our website www.kingvention.com

Paisley Passion!

So summer is here and I have to say the weather is all over the place here in the UK. Some days the heat is unbearable and others are filled with rain and cold winds! I like to be prepared for any sort of weather and in any season so my wardrobe is always filled with clothes for any occasion. Some people box up all of the clothes that are out of season and store them in a safe place ready to bring out when the seasons switch. Anyone who has ever been to the UK will know that doing that in some cases may not be such a good idea lol.

Recently Hanna and I went to see the SS15 collection for Junarose and were lucky enough to get a sneak peek at some of the lines coming this AW15. We were lucky enough to be gifted some items and to my luck the perfect dress was there for me to try! My love of wrap dresses is no secret, I find that they flatter women of all shapes and sizes and are generally really comfortable to wear. I have been known to wear mine across all seasons styling them with boots and some warmer items such as longline cardigans. I had been waiting to wear this gorgeous paisley print number on a day when the weather was just right. The light and airy fabric makes this one perfect for a really hot day and of course can be worn as a singular item. For me I wouldn’t be able to wear this dress on it’s own because of the way it hangs on me. My large behind and belly doesn’t allow for a full wrap towards the bottom of the garment so I decided to pair it with some old jeggings from Simply Be. I’m wearing this dress in size M which is equivalent to UK size 16/18 according to the Junarose website.

I’ll be totally honest this is one of those outfits that I didn’t put much thought into but I loved the end result in how it looks. What’s great about the dress is the versatility you have in wearing it. You put this one on like a robe or kimono and the ties are really long. There is a slight cut on the left handside of the garment for you to thread them through and tie as tightly or loosely as you wish. Often time with wrap dresses we women can have issue in the breast area with one of our girls trying to escape from the garment or some the fabric being too loose on one side. I was able to tie this one firmly and securely which gave me a really nice shape and housed by bust perfectly. I say this all the time, I love blue! Any chance I get to wear the colour I can and will so to have a wrap dress in blue and white paisley print is perfect for me! Unfortunately this print isn’t available on the Junarose site, I think this dress may have been a sample but there is a black option available in the exact same style.

Some of you may have seen that Evans recently launched a Style Has No Size campaign.  The slogan was created to allow women of all shapes and sizes the chance to celebrate their look throughout the summer. With some great t-shirts and tote bags available they make for a really cool addition to your summer look. Recently at the Style Has No Size press event for bloggers I was gifted this fun denim tote which I thought went perfectly with this outfit.

To finish off my look I went with my blue t-bar heels from New Look. I thought that due to the blodness of the paisley print on the dress I should keep things simple and so I pulled out my navy paisley print bandana and signature hoop earrings and I was good to go! There’s always a way to make something work for you even if you’re unsure. Try and put things together that you have in your closet and see what happens, you may be surprised of the outcome!

Remember whatever you wear, feel fabulous in it and wear it with a smile!

Baby Blue Dreams

The main thing I love about this time of year besides the warm sunshine is colour! For months we have had mostly dark and dreary colours present in our winter wardrobes. I don’t know about everyone else but nothing makes me feel better than wearing something bright and fun and when it comes to shopping, there’s nothing I like more than a bargain! It’s no secret that I’m obsessed with the colour blue in all shades and so I’ll be 100% honest here, when I saw that Hanna had purchased this amazing baby blue duster coat from Primark for just £3 it was my mission to see if I could get my hands on one!

What I love about this jacket besides the gorgeous pale blue colour is the fit! The sizing of this one if very generous and whilst I tried on Hanna’s size 16 version of the coat I decided to buy this one in a 20 to give myself plenty of arm room and to give this one an oversized feel. Most duster jackets/coats don’t have any fastenings, this one has buttons at the front to provide closure of the garment and there are usable pockets on each side!

A few days before I bought this coat I took my mum on a shopping trip and as soon as I saw these t-bar buckle wedges in blue I HAD to have them! Available from New Look in wide fit these feel amazing on! I love the comfort of wedges. Not only do they elongate your legs the way that heels do, you can wear these for hours on end without having to worry about pain at the balls of your feet. When you wear heeled shoes the larger the heel the less pain you will get as your body weight is properly supported which makes the footwear more comfortable.

I knew I wanted to keep the overall look really bright and fresh and so I pulled out a pair of stonewash jeggings from Simplybe and my oversized cold shoulder t-shirt dress from Boohoo. I should note that both of these items are from previous collections. Those of you who are familiar with my blog will know that I always buy new items with the idea of making them work with current ones in my wardrobe. We are still in that weird phase weather-wise when it’s too warm to be wearing thick items and scarves but still too cold to totally ditch the jackets and coats I wanted to be on trend with bright pastel shades but still covered enough to feel comfortable.

I wanted to wear very few accessories. I decided to wear a simple metallic heart necklace and of course my hoop earrings. True to my current look (and as  measure to hide my current hair problems) I opted for a blue bandana.

When it comes to putting together an outfit I usually find a staple theme and work around that. I might be focused on a colour or trend. I tend to pick a single item and build on that, in this case the jacket was my first selected item and I knew I wanted a casual and fun look with blues to work with it.

Have fun with your options and try out items in a series of looks to create more than one outfit. We’re all on a budget of some kind so see what you can do with what you have and hunt around for those bargains when you hit the high street!

Remember whatever you wear, feel fabulous in it and wear it with a smile!
