Strictly For The Office – A Junarose Review

Recently I was at an event for Junarose and MSSVG. We were being shown the spring and summer range for next year. I have to say you are all in for a treat. There were some gorgeous new lines coming to suit all styles and shapes and I already have my eye on a gorgeous beach wear item so fingers crossed I’ll be able to pick that up when the time comes.

While I was there I was lucky enough to try out some of the current lines in the collection. I really like items that aren’t what they appear to be. This 3/4 mini dress looks like 2 separates when worn. The skirt of the dress cuts across the knee and the top half of the dress cuts short at the waist. I really liked how this one looked on and I knew it would be a good addition to my wardrobe and perfect to wear at the office.

I like the simplicity of this dress, the colour is a rich and warm one which is great for this time of year and actually compliments a lot of my accessories and make up colours. When you want something that is practical and comfortable but also flexible you look for items like this one, at least I do. I like the fact that this is something that can be worn as a single item or with a little added flavour. This time of year the cold can be rather harsh and the last thing you want is to be bogged down with layers that you don’t need. As much as I love a good bodycon dress it’s nice to not need spanx or shapewear, especially when the outfit in question was bought for the office. I really wanted this dress to hang as loosely as possibly on my frame. When you have a large bust it can sometimes be an issue when clothes hang incorrectly against your frame or cling too much in areas. I picked this one up in a XXL to give myself a little extra wiggle room. A smaller size would have fit me fine but it would have been more fitted.

I really like the detail at the back of the dress. The fabric from the front drapes behind your back leaving a V cut shape. I like that it adds something a little different to an otherwise simple dress

I decided to pair this with a simple pair of black high waisted leather-look leggings from New Look Inspire. Those of you who know my blog will know that I like pairing leggings with dresses. Not only are they extremely comfortable and easy to work with they don’t bunch up in areas the way that tights can.

If you haven’t noticed already I have a thing for hats at the moment especially berets so I thought my old black beret from Simply Be would be a nice addition to the look. To finish up I pulled on my favourite black pair of heels and  floral statement necklace from Primark. For that final bit of bling I wore the crystal stack ring from Evans.

I will most definitely be looking for more looks that are stylish and sophisticated and perfectly suited to the office. The key is to feel good and look good in what you’re wearing. I have some more office looks to come very soon so stay tuned!

Winter Warmers With A Twist!

It’s official the weather has changed! For some the sight of clouds in the sky and the constant stream of umbrellas floating by is extremely depressing. I’ll be totally honest here I am no fan of cold weather; short of having an excuse to indulge in warm hot chocolate and marshmallows it’s most definitely not my thing!

I always find that it’s hard to wear clothes that are practical and fun this time of the year. In the summer we have the luxury of cute separates, bold colours and fun and fresh prints. In the autumn and winter we are showered in a sea of blacks, greys and blues. Now I have no problem with that as I have a huge selection of black, grey and blue clothes in my wardrobe. The challenge for me is wearing items that have a twist and have some character to them. I tend to go for cute dresses and simple coats, vintage inspired dressed and petticoats and of course warm sweaters.

Myself and the lovely Hanna decided to go for a walk in the park the other day and seeing as the weather was quite warm and to our luck dry, I was able to be quite playful with my look.

To my luck I was given this animal print sweater from Zizzi. The sample item will hopefully be in their next collection. I got this in a size M and whilst I love the shape and fit it clings a little to my tummy area. With that in mind I simply had to wear it so I thought I would be creative and wear this leather midi skirt from SimplyBe with it (size 26). Those of you who are familiar with my blog will know that I often wear skirts just under my bust line. My reason for this is the fact that my behind rises a little and if I wear some skirts at the waist line (depending on the cut) they can shift up at the back. It has come to my attention that this is an issue many women face and I simply won’t allow it to cause problems for me when selecting my outfits. In some cases this has actually helped me when it comes to wearing cropped tops or pieces that sit a little snug around the belly.

Feeling comfortable and confident in my clothes is a must for me and that can sometimes be down to the fit, sometimes down to the style of the outfit. I absolutely love animal prints when it comes to clothes and accessories and I have recently been adding more items into my closet, I’ll be sure to put together some posts with these items to show you all very soon. The woollen sweater from Zizzi is really light on the skin and it fits really nicely. The black and grey print make this an item that would work with most bottoms such as jeans, high waisted trousers and of course other cuts of skirt. The colours being neutral make this one easy to pair with other separates and jackets also.

It’s always nice when you see a cute dog in the park.

When you’re used to wearing trousers or jeans on a regular basis the convenience of having pockets is a nice and familiar thing, somewhere to have your phone, wallet etc. One of the things I really like about this skirt is the pocket detail on both sides of the skirt. When you don’t want to carry a bag with you or you’re simply popping out for a few minutes it can be a nice relief to have something to store those smaller items. This skirt is not only a warm and adaptable item it’s a practical one too. The central split in the front gives it a nice shape and a little character and I found that it made the item look more flattering on my frame. Unfortunately this is from a previous collection but there may be something similar available online and in a local Simplybe branch.

I decided that the only accessory I would wear with this outfit would be my favoured hoop earrings. Sometimes you really don’t want to have much jewellery on at all and in my case I didn’t want any additions to my look so I simply painted my nails for a little colour and slipped on some comfortable plimsolls shoes. The saying can be true, less can be more sometimes.

Have a look in your wardrobe and see what you have that you can play around with, we may be lucky enough to have a few more nice days before the scarves and gloves are required!

Autumn Fun! – An FD Avenue Review

We all have those days when we want to have a fun look that’s comfortable, looks cute and suits the weather. Sometimes getting a look that fits all three requirements can be a real challenge, especially when you live in London and have to endure regular random changes in the weather. I have to admit I’m not a fan of that awkward time period when the seasons are in that transitional period. It can be hard to know whether you are coming or going and the tough part is to endure all of that in the right clothes!

I really believe that if you feel good in the what you’re wearing a lot of the other stuff will just fall into place. If you feel good then the awkward and sometimes tough stuff can be that little bit easier to cope with.

A couple of weeks ago I was rummaging through my wardrobe looking for something with a hint of colour to wear that would be warm enough in the crisp autumn air but still be fun to wear on a weekend afternoon in London.

Currently there are a lot of fun and funky statement t-shirts on the market many of which include a cute anecdote about selfies or some other social media jargon. I think it’s cool that fashion is in keeping with many of the current online statements and trends; making items fun and enjoyable to wear.

When I saw this cute tee from Primark with a style that tips it’s hat to some of the high fashion brands such as Chanel, I thought it would be a cute addition to my wardrobe.

In truth I have had this tee for a few months now and I hadn’t quite gotten around to wearing it until I received this boyfriend cardigan from FD Avenue. The mustard colour was perfect against the gold tones in the tee and is just the right shade for the autumn season whilst still having some of that summer brightness some of us wish was still here.

I have many boyfriend cardigans in a variety of colours as they work well with many items and can be that simple burst of colour you want in an outfit. This one from FD Avenue is a comfortable and sleek item with cute pockets on either side. If you want light and simple coverage that adds that little bit of extra warmth this is a really nice option.

I decided that other than the cardigan and tee combo I would keep everything else really simply with just black and white options. I combined these items with my black pleather skirt from Simplybe, black tights from Primark and my go to black heels. I absolutely love this skirt and it tends to go with pretty much everything I match it with, which is a bonus!

What I like about these items is that all of them can be put together with different outfits.

Versatile items always go well in my wardrobe as I’m a big fan of buying separates. I like the possibilities you get with individual items and the fact that they can work well within a number of different looks.

I have a pretty big love for shoulder bags and satchels and when I saw this houndstooth print it just had to be mine! The classic print which is readily available pretty much everywhere and on everything at the moment, was more than welcome to work it’s way into my closet. As a lover of both vintage and modern styles I find that anything with this print attached can usually work across the two styles and compliment any outfit perfectly.

Have a play around this season with your style you never know what might just work for you!

*The Cardigan was gifted from FD Avenue.

Spots And Pleather!

With the change in the seasons and the cold snap in the air I think it’s still important to have fun with your wardrobe. This is the time of the year when we find ourselves getting stressed out and frustrated; the kids are back to school Christmas is around the corner and the autumn/winter blues are starting to set in. This is the time when I like to get out a little bit more, have a few drinks when I can and hit the dance floor!

It’s no secret that I enjoy mixing fabrics and prints together and I found an outfit that I could easily wear on a night out in the club. I recently wore this pleather top from Simplybe (size 28) in a photoshoot (i’ll be sure to share the pictures with you all real soon) I wanted to pair this one with something that would compliment it well. I thought that it would look good with this tube skirt from Forever21 (size 3x).

It should be noted that these are both from previous collections but if you like the shapes and styles it’s worth taking a look at these companies to see if they currently stock something similar.

When I’m on the dance floor I like to be in clothes that look great but also feel great. When you’re out there throwing shapes the last thing you want to feel is restricted in your clothes, you also want to feel that you look your best. Like many women I have a thing for leopard prints and I think that the pattern lends itself to pretty much any season which makes this skirt a multi-purpose item. I could easily wear this to work and pair it with a cute blouse for a more sophisticated look.

When I’m out on the floor I like to feel grounded and I don’t tend to wear heels when dancing so I thought I would wear my chain detail boots from Fashion World. They fit so comfortably and I can wear them for hours on end so these would be the perfect footwear for the club. The attached gold bling is an added bonus and reduces the need for accessories.

As finishing touches go I decided that I would keep it really simply by of course wearing my signature hoop earrings and a simple floral statement necklace. The metallic flower arrangement is one that I really like and the simplicity is exactly what I wanted. Many statement necklaces are loud and garish, which I love but for this look I thought I would keep it simple as the pleather top and the leopard print skirt was loud enough for one outfit. These accessories are available from Primark so if you like them head on down there before they sell out!

Maximise With A Maxi

Do you ever find yourself searching for a specific kind of garment? Maybe you want something for a particular event or season? In my case I was on a quest for the perfect maxi dress. It seems that having a good maxi dress is just as important as having the perfect LBD in your wardrobe and with the holiday season here and the temperatures soaring, my eyes have been well and truly open as I scoured websites and stores looking for a dress that was just right!

I wanted something that would suit my style, needs and my taste in colour and fabric. The lovely Hanna from The Wardrobe Challenge showed me a dress by Lovedrobe that she had recently gotten which I instantly feel in love with! The length was just right; adequate to wear with flats, wedges and heels. The silky soft fabric was light, airy and flattering on her and I knew this was one I wanted to pick up for myself.

One of my concerns was trying to find a dress that I felt supported my breasts. So many maxi dresses have halter-neck ties or elasticated stretch material in that area, which is fine and looks good with the style. In my case I like to feel a dress mould around my bust and provide a little extra support. The thin straps are adjustable, giving you the option to wear the dress in a more fitted fashion (as I have in these pictures) or looser for comfort. The built in cups sit nicely against my shape giving me a full and elegant look.

I really wanted a dress with splashes of colour and this black maxi with splattered print in coral, pink, yellow and peachy tones is something I would wear out and about for drinks or enjoying myself in the sunshine. The waist detail and side ties pull you in at the middle giving a nice lift to the bust and comfortable sweep of the skirt. I picked this dress up in a size 26 as the area around the cups is rather fitted and it would have been too tight had I selected something smaller. Depending on the size and shape of your bust you may be able to downsize in this one as the skirt of the dress is very roomy.

I last wore this dress on a seriously hot day and despite the base colour being in black I felt really comfortable. The light fabric made this a perfect selection for such a sunny day in London. The interesting feel about the material of the dress is that I know I could have worn this dress on a cooler evening and still felt comfortable in it. To me the fabric of the dress feels rather adaptable and would be a comfortable wear for most temperatures during the summer and early autumn.

I wanted to wear a simple shrug with this one. This was in an effort to avoid gaining thick tan lines from the straps of the dress and my bra. If I were to wear this out one evening, I would most likely wear a light jacket in black to compliment the fabric and offer a little additional coverage.

For a dress with such a bold print I wanted very light and simple accessories. I played around with the colour pallet of the dress and so I opted for the Raffia Clutch from Simplybe and netted ballerina shoes from Primark. Feathered jewellery added those finishing touches I like and I feel that they worked well with the print in the dress.

The great news about this dress, it’s on sale! You can pick this one up at Evans where I got mine at an amazing £30 reduced from £50. If you like this one I would definitely recommend it. It feels amazing on and the style is simple and elegant. With just the right amount of colour this is one that works perfectly for the current season. I look forward to taking this one with me on holiday where it shall make an appearance at the beach!

Remember what ever you wear, feel fabulous in it and wear it with a smile!

Simply Be AW14 Collection

A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to attend the AW14 press day for Simplybe. Despite having been in attendance a short while back I wanted to hold off making my AW14 posts until mid summer. While the temperatures are starting to make the switch and the sun is going in that little bit earlier I thought now would be a good time to show some of you what you can expect to see from the brand.

Treated to a series of sweet drinks and gorgeous cakes myself and the other bloggers spoke about the pieces that caught our eyes, what we really wanted to try and the bits that seemed to be pushing expectations.

Despite the fact that autumn and winter has us reaching for our darker and more conservative clothing. Simply Be have decided to give us quite a splash of colour to compliment the darker choices and I have to say what I have seen are some really funky, on trend and interesting looks that will suit all occasions.

Check out these looks from their look book:

As you can see; this peak at some of the collection shows us a lot of different pieces and I already have my eye on a several of them.

This jacket is something I will most definitely want to pick up:

All in all I had a great time with the girls and the collection looks amazing, so I look forward to seeing many of you sporting the various different looks over the next few months. Until then I shall enjoy another cuppa (unfortunately not one like this)….

Bright And Bold!

I really think it’s important to find a style that suits you and makes you feel fabulous. When it comes to fashion and trying to find your own look I think it’s important to play around with different looks. A friend of mine once spoke about how she felt when she was shopping for her wedding dress and she told me that she was advised to try on absolutely everything in the store. She had previously walked into the boutique expecting to wear a long and slender gown, in the end she opted for a poofy dress that  looked absolutely amazing on her! So it goes to show you; when it comes to fashion we need to adopt the mindset that we used to have as kids when we were playing dress up, try everything! The thing to remember is that you won’t know how it will turn out or if you will like what you see unless you experiment.

A little over a year ago I had just started to discover my favourite fashion styles. I knew what colours I liked to wear and what I felt comfortable in. Since starting my blog I have made it my mission to push my style vocabulary more so and be as edgy as possible. I really enjoy having a wardrobe that is full of classy and chic items, comfortable and safe looks and more edgy options. I think it’s good to have clothes that can fit any possible event or occasion. I used to hate buying clothes with a searing passion! The only shopping trips I enjoyed were for music related items or pretty much anything other than clothes.

As some of you may know from previously viewing my blog I am keen on sheer materials and pleather at the moment. I thought that to pair this tartan print shirt and pleather skirt from Simplybe would be a fun look. For me I like items that are versatile. I wanted to have an outfit that was fun, popped and could be worn both at work or in a more fun setting. Since coming into the plus size community I constantly see pictures and articles about how “fat” women are supposed to dress and I’ll be honest with you, I don’t see why everyone is so concerned about how other people dress. We are told to follow a series of rules when it comes to our attire and I seem to keep breaking them, and I’m having fun doing it…

I thought I would be a little more girly with this look so I pulled out my black heels and thought that tights would fare better with the style. The loose fit shirt is actually a pretty decent length and is one that I have worn with jeans and leggings also. For me though I quite like to tuck tops into my skater skirts. I find that the outfit is the bit more together and structured and when I put certain items together they sit better on my frame that way.

I thought to finish off the look I would keep it simple. As the shirt is so bright I wanted simple silver accessories this time around. Of course my signature hoop earrings made an appearance, as well as simple silver bracelets. I really enjoyed wearing these items together despite the fact that they are rather loud and made me stand out a fair bit. I was a little out of my comfort zone but in a good way and I definitely felt good for having pushed my personal limits once again.

Remember whatever you wear, do it with a smile!

Liberate Your Style Challenge (Part 2) – A Fashion World Review

When I was recently contacted by Fashion world offering me the chance to put together a look from their Joe Browns  range there were several items that really caught my eye in the collection. As some of you know I really enjoy experimenting with different styles of clothing and seeing what works for me in different scenarios. I think when it comes to how we dress ourselves, one of the things we all have in common is the need to have a simple by cute look that allows us to play around with those staple items in our closet.

I absolutely love jeans and I enjoy wearing them. For me jeans are one of those items that can either be really fun and dressy or just a comfortable item that we can throw on during those fast paced days when you just need something that will work with whatever events the day may bring.

As a long time lover of all things paisley, when I saw the light blue jeans with paisley print I just had to have them. I think my long history with hair scarves and bandanas is what started this mild obsession but I’m happy to say this is one of the few style trends from my teens that I still hold as an adult! Usually I get to wear them with vintage styles but what’s nice is the fact that I can also wear one of my white or blue ones with these jeans if I want to really want to make a thing of the classic pattern in an outfit.

When it comes to jeans I will be honest my size heavily changes from brand to brand. I can wear anything from a size 22-26 so when it came to picking these ones I knew I wanted a fair bit of extra wiggle room in the tummy and thigh area. I picked these up in a size 28. I will be honest they are pretty loose on me and I don’t actually have to unzip or unbutton them to get them on. Having said all of that I actually like the oversized feel of this pair, I can pretty much do whatever and feel comfortable. I do however wear a belt with these ones for security purposes lol.

I decided to pair these jeans with an old top from Simplybe. The netted material is really comfortable and works really well with a causal look. With accessories I paired the jeans with the studded boots also from the Joe Browns Collection. I tend to wear flats and balerina pumps with my day to day clothes but since getting these boots they have worked well with many of my outfits and they are so comfortable! I got them at an 8E so there is plenty of extra room which is useful if you want to wear a thick pair of socks for comfort.

I thought I would keep it simple and work with the blue tones in the jeans for additional pieces in my outfit. I thought this cute bag and cuff from Primark would fare well and some old bracelets I have had for years that I found lying around in my jewellery box.

I’m pretty sure that these were a popluar choice with shoppers on the site aswell as many of the other items in the collection so make sure to take a look. There are some really nice bits available at the moment.

On The Road To Edgy!

In the recent weeks I have seen so many conversations by ladies in the plus community about pushing boundaries with fashion. It seems that many women are frustrated with the lack of edginess out there. I personally think that you can be edgy in many ways. Sometimes it can be a combination of basic pieces that can create a somewhat edgy look.
I figure that being edgy and a little different isn’t always about outlandish and garish prints, crazy fabrics or asymmetrical cuts. In this outfit I am wearing the most simple and safe colours you can think of; black and grey, but I think what makes it a little edgy is the difference in the items.
The metallic silver top from Junarose (size medium) is paired with simple black leggings from Yours Clothing (size 22). As the top is a short one and stops just under my stomach I decided to add my pleather skater skirt from Simplybe (size 24) to the ensemble. I always wear something over my leggings unless the top or dress is at a length where my behind is suitably covered.
London weather tends to get rather chilly and as I was heading to the club shortly after these photos were taken, I thought it best to add this jacket by New Look Inspire range (size 22).
It should be noted that all of these items are from previous collections.
When I wear skater skirts I like them to be fairly high waisted. I find that they really work with t-shirts and crop tops. Unless I’m dressed up in a vintage style I tend to select items of clothing that can be versatile and worn in either causal or dressy styles. Every single one of the items can and will be worn in other outfits and I look forward to showing you some more variations soon. The great thing about each piece is that they are all light in weight and feel extremely comfortable on.
Had I been wearing this outfit out and about during the day I most likely would have added a series of accessories. A necklace or two, bangles etc. I think I would have added a bit of colour with my chosen accessories, perhaps opting for a cobalt blue handbag, blue shoes and some acrylic jewellery. I most definitely would have worn heels too. For me this was a simple outfit to wear at the club without too much flash or glitz. I was aiming for something comfortable to dance in without anything to get in the way or get snagged on by potential passers by and other club goers. Keeping it simple with just hoop earrings was my only addition to the look.
Take a look in your wardrobe, see what you have and play around, you may be pleasantly surprised!

A Little Bit Of Pleather

When it comes to style there are so many different variations of the same thing. If someone was to mention a new LBD that they purchased to you, I can guarantee about a 100 different images would pop into your head. When I was hanging out with the lovely Hanna from The Wardrobe Challenge. She told me that she had a dress that she thought would look great on me. This was a simple black dress, with three quarter length sleeves. What gave it a little edge, the pleather skirt…
I have to admit before I picked this one up from Hanna I didn’t own any items containing pleather!
Those of you who read my blog will know that I am playing around with different looks and styles. I really want to expand my range and my options by working with different fabrics, colours and wild prints. What I like about this dress is that the mix of fabrics is enough to give it that wow factor. Not only is black a colour that everyone can wear regardless of skin tone, style etc. it’s a canvas colour which leaves you open to a plethora of choices when selecting accessories and shoes.
The dress is from Simplybe and comes with invisible zip back fastening (although I just put straight over my head). I love the loose fit of the dress. It’s slightly oversized but I actually like that. Sometimes you want extra space and to just have the clothes skim over your frame. This one is a size 28.
The material for the main body of the dress is 73% polyester, 24% viscose, 3% elastane. The trim and skirt is 40% polyurethane, 40% viscose and 20% polyester. The material feels really nice and light against the skin.
I teamed this one with simple black leggings and my black heels. A hologram clutch bag, black hair scarf and silver accessories to finish off the look. I thought with this one I would keep it simple so that I could wear this one at the office, out and about or as a casual piece. There are so many ways this dress can be worn. In future I may use the pleather skirt as the inspiration regarding my accessories. I may channel my inner rock chick and break out a studded leather bag, black acrylic accessories and maybe even look for a pair of studded heels.
That’s the thing that’s great about hanging out with a group of blogger babes, they can show you a whole other style of dress to try out that you might actually really like.
