Baby Blue Dreams

The main thing I love about this time of year besides the warm sunshine is colour! For months we have had mostly dark and dreary colours present in our winter wardrobes. I don’t know about everyone else but nothing makes me feel better than wearing something bright and fun and when it comes to shopping, there’s nothing I like more than a bargain! It’s no secret that I’m obsessed with the colour blue in all shades and so I’ll be 100% honest here, when I saw that Hanna had purchased this amazing baby blue duster coat from Primark for just £3 it was my mission to see if I could get my hands on one!

What I love about this jacket besides the gorgeous pale blue colour is the fit! The sizing of this one if very generous and whilst I tried on Hanna’s size 16 version of the coat I decided to buy this one in a 20 to give myself plenty of arm room and to give this one an oversized feel. Most duster jackets/coats don’t have any fastenings, this one has buttons at the front to provide closure of the garment and there are usable pockets on each side!

A few days before I bought this coat I took my mum on a shopping trip and as soon as I saw these t-bar buckle wedges in blue I HAD to have them! Available from New Look in wide fit these feel amazing on! I love the comfort of wedges. Not only do they elongate your legs the way that heels do, you can wear these for hours on end without having to worry about pain at the balls of your feet. When you wear heeled shoes the larger the heel the less pain you will get as your body weight is properly supported which makes the footwear more comfortable.

I knew I wanted to keep the overall look really bright and fresh and so I pulled out a pair of stonewash jeggings from Simplybe and my oversized cold shoulder t-shirt dress from Boohoo. I should note that both of these items are from previous collections. Those of you who are familiar with my blog will know that I always buy new items with the idea of making them work with current ones in my wardrobe. We are still in that weird phase weather-wise when it’s too warm to be wearing thick items and scarves but still too cold to totally ditch the jackets and coats I wanted to be on trend with bright pastel shades but still covered enough to feel comfortable.

I wanted to wear very few accessories. I decided to wear a simple metallic heart necklace and of course my hoop earrings. True to my current look (and as  measure to hide my current hair problems) I opted for a blue bandana.

When it comes to putting together an outfit I usually find a staple theme and work around that. I might be focused on a colour or trend. I tend to pick a single item and build on that, in this case the jacket was my first selected item and I knew I wanted a casual and fun look with blues to work with it.

Have fun with your options and try out items in a series of looks to create more than one outfit. We’re all on a budget of some kind so see what you can do with what you have and hunt around for those bargains when you hit the high street!

Remember whatever you wear, feel fabulous in it and wear it with a smile!

Sweet Darling – Embracing My Inner Girly Girl

One thing that I love to do is experiment. I guess you could say that because we plus size women have a plethora of clothing options to chose from nowadays our mind sets have somewhat been adjusted, at least in my case I have experienced the change. For years we had so little style options that the common thing for most of us was just finding clothes that fit and trying to find a way to make them work within our personal style…

As a child I wore skirts and things but I never had the experience of wearing a tutu. For me the closest I came was cute little party dresses, but I think my never taking ballet lessons may have had something to do with this sad fact. A little over 2 years ago things started to change for me. Ever so slowly I began to increase more colours and fabrics into my wardrobe and slowly I was ditching the black and dowdy items and bringing in the bright and fun options. Now I can’t lie and say I’ve always been a girly girl, as previously mentioned here on the blog I used to wear feminine items but I would steer clear of skirts and dresses. My recent change in mind set has let me to be more experimental and fun when choosing my outfits and I am really enjoying playing dress up and being really girly. Hanna, Lucie and I decided to have an afternoon of girl talk and styling which I have to say was so much fun! I had mentioned to Hanna that I had seen a really cute look on Instagram that a standard sized blogger was wearing that I’d love to replicate. In true “Hanna” style she took this as a challenge. I had seen a gorgeous blogger (who’s name I don’t know unfortunately) had shared her picture with a fashion look page that I follow and I just loved how she styled her look (She unfortunately wasn’t tagged into the picture, otherwise I would drop a link to her page for you to see her blog). A really cute grey sweater and coffee coloured tutu was paired with a cute pair of heels and I just loved how casual, girly and sweet the look was. Hanna instantly pulled the most amazing Navy tutu out of her wardrobe and a “darling” sweater for me to try on. The next thing I know the girls had selected a pair of shoes and a clutch for me to wear with the outfit and I absolutely fell in love with the end result!

I really like simplistic colours and tones in clothes because for me they act as a blank canvas. When you have blacks, greys, whites and blues the options you have for accessories is pretty much endless! Gold or silver items work with this kind of of colour combination and a sharp splash of colour would really make the look come to life. In these pictures we went with a simple pair of nude peep-toe heels from Matalan and an oversized clutch from Primark.

Unfortunately both the tutu and sweater are no longer available. However I will most definitely keep my eyes open for similar items and I’ll be sure to update you all of my findings. To give you more detail on the Tutu I am wearing this in a size 18 from the Asos main range and the sweater is a size 26 from Evans.

I don’t know what it is but every time I wear a big puffy skirt the childish playful side of my personality comes out. I love twirling, spinning and doing cute things in those sorts of clothes. I think perhaps this is why I gravitate to flared dresses and circle skirts when I buy my vintage inspired items. One thing I know for sure is that I need to get my hands on a tutu of my own! I have no idea when or where I would wear one but I don’t care! I felt so girly, cute and sweet in this outfit and I have every intention of wearing something similar again one of these days.

I think it’s fair to say that you can always try those things that you missed out on previously when it comes to fashion. The trends come back in style and the options for clothing are far from few. I am embracing my inner girly girl and having an amazing time doing it. Don’t be afraid to try new things, you may surprise yourself and love how you look!

Remember whatever you wear, feel fabulous in it and wear it with a smile!

Autumn Fun! – An FD Avenue Review

We all have those days when we want to have a fun look that’s comfortable, looks cute and suits the weather. Sometimes getting a look that fits all three requirements can be a real challenge, especially when you live in London and have to endure regular random changes in the weather. I have to admit I’m not a fan of that awkward time period when the seasons are in that transitional period. It can be hard to know whether you are coming or going and the tough part is to endure all of that in the right clothes!

I really believe that if you feel good in the what you’re wearing a lot of the other stuff will just fall into place. If you feel good then the awkward and sometimes tough stuff can be that little bit easier to cope with.

A couple of weeks ago I was rummaging through my wardrobe looking for something with a hint of colour to wear that would be warm enough in the crisp autumn air but still be fun to wear on a weekend afternoon in London.

Currently there are a lot of fun and funky statement t-shirts on the market many of which include a cute anecdote about selfies or some other social media jargon. I think it’s cool that fashion is in keeping with many of the current online statements and trends; making items fun and enjoyable to wear.

When I saw this cute tee from Primark with a style that tips it’s hat to some of the high fashion brands such as Chanel, I thought it would be a cute addition to my wardrobe.

In truth I have had this tee for a few months now and I hadn’t quite gotten around to wearing it until I received this boyfriend cardigan from FD Avenue. The mustard colour was perfect against the gold tones in the tee and is just the right shade for the autumn season whilst still having some of that summer brightness some of us wish was still here.

I have many boyfriend cardigans in a variety of colours as they work well with many items and can be that simple burst of colour you want in an outfit. This one from FD Avenue is a comfortable and sleek item with cute pockets on either side. If you want light and simple coverage that adds that little bit of extra warmth this is a really nice option.

I decided that other than the cardigan and tee combo I would keep everything else really simply with just black and white options. I combined these items with my black pleather skirt from Simplybe, black tights from Primark and my go to black heels. I absolutely love this skirt and it tends to go with pretty much everything I match it with, which is a bonus!

What I like about these items is that all of them can be put together with different outfits.

Versatile items always go well in my wardrobe as I’m a big fan of buying separates. I like the possibilities you get with individual items and the fact that they can work well within a number of different looks.

I have a pretty big love for shoulder bags and satchels and when I saw this houndstooth print it just had to be mine! The classic print which is readily available pretty much everywhere and on everything at the moment, was more than welcome to work it’s way into my closet. As a lover of both vintage and modern styles I find that anything with this print attached can usually work across the two styles and compliment any outfit perfectly.

Have a play around this season with your style you never know what might just work for you!

*The Cardigan was gifted from FD Avenue.

Black Magic And Gold Dust

So, we’re now at that strange time in the year when the days are getting shorter, the sun doesn’t seem to want to make that much of an appearance and we are forced to start covering up again.

I personally prefer summer to autumn and winter and I always will. It’s nice to be able able to wear bright and garish colours, bold prints and show a little skin. Having said all of that my aim this year is to have a little fun with my warmer wardrobe. Cute hats, scarves and funky adornments might be the way for me to go when it comes to adding that extra style and flair to my sense of dress this winter.

I hate to say it but I have now had to start wearing my jackets and jumpers and other winter warmers. I think it’s fair to say that summer is pretty much over and any day of sunshine and heat we get we’ll need to make the most of!

I was going through my clothes when I started to feel that sudden chill in the air and I dug out this gold studded jumper from Primark that I purchased last year. I initially bought this when I was looking to add a little sparkle into my wardrobe. This size 20 jumper is really spacious and is just the right length to cover my behind. The thing I like about items with bold prints or with adornments is the fact that they become the focal point to the outfit. Often they can take away any need to accessorise or they can help you in the selection process. I really enjoy the dusting of gold studs I think it brings an element of fun to an otherwise simple piece.

I like keeping it simple sometimes and I thought it would be cool to pair this jumper with my wet-look leggings from Scarlett & Jo size 24. They are so comfortable and stretchy and they are high waisted which is always a bonus because then you don’t get the dreaded “double belly” that can happen when the waist band rests too low.

This simple outfit is a nice one for this time of year when you may not want a coat or jacket but might feel the need to have that additional coverage for comfort and warmth in this weather. For a evening walk in the park I found this to be a really comfortable wear and it got me thinking that I need to pick up some more jumpers.

I thought that I would pair the outfit with my Joe Browns boots from Fashion World. I wanted shoes with a touch of gold and as these boots have studs that compliment the jumper they were an easy choice.

My signature hoop earrings and my lovely necklace were also a no brainer as I wanted a simple look with no added colours.

What I really like about this look which I never paid attention to until I looked at these pictures is the fact that from the back it looks as though I’m wearing a plain black jumper and simple leggings. When you see the ensemble from the front there’s loads going on with gold sparkles and the wet look shimmer on the front panel of the leggings. I think when it comes to fashion sometimes the element of surprise can be fun when someone is wearing something different to what you expect lol.

Have a look in your closet and see what might work for you during the change in the seasons.

Remember whatever you wear, feel fabulous in it and wear it with a smile!

Maximise With A Maxi

Do you ever find yourself searching for a specific kind of garment? Maybe you want something for a particular event or season? In my case I was on a quest for the perfect maxi dress. It seems that having a good maxi dress is just as important as having the perfect LBD in your wardrobe and with the holiday season here and the temperatures soaring, my eyes have been well and truly open as I scoured websites and stores looking for a dress that was just right!

I wanted something that would suit my style, needs and my taste in colour and fabric. The lovely Hanna from The Wardrobe Challenge showed me a dress by Lovedrobe that she had recently gotten which I instantly feel in love with! The length was just right; adequate to wear with flats, wedges and heels. The silky soft fabric was light, airy and flattering on her and I knew this was one I wanted to pick up for myself.

One of my concerns was trying to find a dress that I felt supported my breasts. So many maxi dresses have halter-neck ties or elasticated stretch material in that area, which is fine and looks good with the style. In my case I like to feel a dress mould around my bust and provide a little extra support. The thin straps are adjustable, giving you the option to wear the dress in a more fitted fashion (as I have in these pictures) or looser for comfort. The built in cups sit nicely against my shape giving me a full and elegant look.

I really wanted a dress with splashes of colour and this black maxi with splattered print in coral, pink, yellow and peachy tones is something I would wear out and about for drinks or enjoying myself in the sunshine. The waist detail and side ties pull you in at the middle giving a nice lift to the bust and comfortable sweep of the skirt. I picked this dress up in a size 26 as the area around the cups is rather fitted and it would have been too tight had I selected something smaller. Depending on the size and shape of your bust you may be able to downsize in this one as the skirt of the dress is very roomy.

I last wore this dress on a seriously hot day and despite the base colour being in black I felt really comfortable. The light fabric made this a perfect selection for such a sunny day in London. The interesting feel about the material of the dress is that I know I could have worn this dress on a cooler evening and still felt comfortable in it. To me the fabric of the dress feels rather adaptable and would be a comfortable wear for most temperatures during the summer and early autumn.

I wanted to wear a simple shrug with this one. This was in an effort to avoid gaining thick tan lines from the straps of the dress and my bra. If I were to wear this out one evening, I would most likely wear a light jacket in black to compliment the fabric and offer a little additional coverage.

For a dress with such a bold print I wanted very light and simple accessories. I played around with the colour pallet of the dress and so I opted for the Raffia Clutch from Simplybe and netted ballerina shoes from Primark. Feathered jewellery added those finishing touches I like and I feel that they worked well with the print in the dress.

The great news about this dress, it’s on sale! You can pick this one up at Evans where I got mine at an amazing £30 reduced from £50. If you like this one I would definitely recommend it. It feels amazing on and the style is simple and elegant. With just the right amount of colour this is one that works perfectly for the current season. I look forward to taking this one with me on holiday where it shall make an appearance at the beach!

Remember what ever you wear, feel fabulous in it and wear it with a smile!

Liberate Your Style Challenge (Part 2) – A Fashion World Review

When I was recently contacted by Fashion world offering me the chance to put together a look from their Joe Browns  range there were several items that really caught my eye in the collection. As some of you know I really enjoy experimenting with different styles of clothing and seeing what works for me in different scenarios. I think when it comes to how we dress ourselves, one of the things we all have in common is the need to have a simple by cute look that allows us to play around with those staple items in our closet.

I absolutely love jeans and I enjoy wearing them. For me jeans are one of those items that can either be really fun and dressy or just a comfortable item that we can throw on during those fast paced days when you just need something that will work with whatever events the day may bring.

As a long time lover of all things paisley, when I saw the light blue jeans with paisley print I just had to have them. I think my long history with hair scarves and bandanas is what started this mild obsession but I’m happy to say this is one of the few style trends from my teens that I still hold as an adult! Usually I get to wear them with vintage styles but what’s nice is the fact that I can also wear one of my white or blue ones with these jeans if I want to really want to make a thing of the classic pattern in an outfit.

When it comes to jeans I will be honest my size heavily changes from brand to brand. I can wear anything from a size 22-26 so when it came to picking these ones I knew I wanted a fair bit of extra wiggle room in the tummy and thigh area. I picked these up in a size 28. I will be honest they are pretty loose on me and I don’t actually have to unzip or unbutton them to get them on. Having said all of that I actually like the oversized feel of this pair, I can pretty much do whatever and feel comfortable. I do however wear a belt with these ones for security purposes lol.

I decided to pair these jeans with an old top from Simplybe. The netted material is really comfortable and works really well with a causal look. With accessories I paired the jeans with the studded boots also from the Joe Browns Collection. I tend to wear flats and balerina pumps with my day to day clothes but since getting these boots they have worked well with many of my outfits and they are so comfortable! I got them at an 8E so there is plenty of extra room which is useful if you want to wear a thick pair of socks for comfort.

I thought I would keep it simple and work with the blue tones in the jeans for additional pieces in my outfit. I thought this cute bag and cuff from Primark would fare well and some old bracelets I have had for years that I found lying around in my jewellery box.

I’m pretty sure that these were a popluar choice with shoppers on the site aswell as many of the other items in the collection so make sure to take a look. There are some really nice bits available at the moment.

Jackson Action – My Take On Billie Jean Chic

When it comes to casual clothing items many people struggle with adding a little style and finesse into their look. It’s no secret how much of a Michael Jackson fan I am and I thought that with all the t-shirts I have I need to switch things up a little. My aim was to see what I can do to make some of my tees more feminine and fashion forward.
I pulled out one of my favourites and decided to work with the colours there. Lucky for me black, white and grey were my choices. All MJ fans like to incorporate signature things from his look into their style especially when wearing something with his name or face on. I decided to play around with a style I like to call Billie Jean Chic. I would usually do the easy thing and wear an MJ t-shirt with a pair of jeans so I thought, let me go the other way and pick out a skirt. From Primark, this size 20 tube skirt was my choice. The horizontal stripes in black and white really compliment the t-shirt design and despite my belly being on show I still love the look and feel confident wearing it! I played around with the t-shirt tucking it into the skirt, tying a knot to make it more fitted in it’s style and letting it hang over the skirt. In the end I decided I prefer the tee either tucked in or draped over the skirt and knotted. As this is a men’s t-shirt in XL I wanted a more tailored fit for my more dressy style. We have recently got this t-shirt in stock over at King Of Shop so if you like it you can pick it up in sizes S-XL.
Billie Jean as one of Michael’s most famous songs sees the king of pop wearing the world famous black sequin jacket. Mine is the gorgeous Veronette Cardigan from Igigi, US Size 22/24. The Jacket comes complete with a sash belt which you can use to close the jacket and fasten it shut, I thought I would wear mine true to MJ’s style and leave it loose. XL tights from Primark and a pair or suede high heeled shoes I was more than ready to hit the town in this number!
I like to showcase the fact that I’m an MJ fan and if I can do that with a little style and fun then I most certainly will! I’m sure you’ll see me playing around with some of my other t-shirts soon and you can give me your feedback lol.

No MJ style look would be complete without mirrored aviators! When I saw this pair I had to do a double take as they are really similar to a pair he wore when I saw him in London for the 2006 World Music Awards. He wore the most amazing pair of diamond framed shades. Mine are of course an imitation but for £3 in Primark you simply can’t go wrong!
Many of us have the odd outfit influenced by a celebrity and for me Michael was the one person who’s style I found to be a fun and playful challenge. His look was most definitely his own and as he was not afraid of sequins, glitz and glam I thought it might be fun to add a twist to his look and see if I could adapt it to suit my own.
I know I’m 2 days late but this month’s magnificent 7th challenge was to replicate the style of a celebrity and as Michael’s Billie Jean style was created for the stage I thought it best to adapt the look. Check out some of the posts for the others bloggers in the challenge and see what celeb styles they tried out:
