Cutely Sophisticated With Arched Eyebrow!

*The Blouse Was A Gifted Item

There’s nothing more exciting for a fashionista than learning of a new and upcoming collection. The thought of being able to try out some new and exciting clothing is always a plus especially for us bigger girls! I was recently at a AW17 preview of the new Navabi collections and, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that one of the new ranges was completely designed by one of my blogging sisters Bethany aka Arched Eyebrow! For the past few years I have been a fan of Bethany’s blog and have enjoyed seeing her girly yet edgy and sophisticated style come to life through her photos.

Her range features bold and bright block colours, pretty bows and feminine details with a twist that add more than just a little colour to the winter wardrobe. I tried on this hot pink pussybow blouse and just knew I had to get my hands on it, in addition to a gorgeous cobalt blue coat and gingham shirt (i’ll be sharing the shirt with you in a future post)! I’m wearing this one in a size 26, the 24 was a great fit and true to size but with shirts I always like to up-size for the additional boob room. There’s nothing worse than when a cute shirt gapes in the front when you move and, I didn’t want to take any chances and wanted to be able to wear this one without any restrictions.

The buttons are embossed cut black triangles which give this item a little twist, there is also one at the back of the neck to keep the bow secured and in place. What I love about this top is that it’s cutely sophisticated and even though it is 100% Bethany personified, it works for all women out there and can bring a fun element to your own personal style. The bow can be tightly tied or left rather wide (which I have done in these photos).

The rich candy colour of the blouse is really easy to style and would work with denim, black, white, pinks and a variety of fun prints. I decided to pair this one with an a-line shaped, pleated pleather skirt from a previous Lane Bryant collection, some cute ankle boots from New Look, a leopard clutch, my signature hoop earrings and a hot pink lippy. What I love about this blouse is that it’s a multi purpose item. I knew as soon as I saw it that I could wear this to the office, as a causal item for a fun daytime look and even on a night out with friends.

I have to say I’m really happy to see that a blogger with her own style and approach is being highlighted in such a way and, that people who may not have known her before can pick up a piece of it for themselves and add it to their own wardrobes. I hope that a second collection is on the cards for Bethany as her items are great in style and quality and in my opinion, are must have items for everyone!

Tie Die Magic – A Yours Clothing Review

*Hoodie And Joggers Are Gifted Items

I love how different types of clothing can bring out other sides to your personality. Colours, prints, fabrics and cuts have a way of either enhancing or changing your mood and with that being said you can use clothing to force a mood sometimes. I own very little active wear, sweats and lounge-wear; something I definitely have to change! When I first saw the gorgeous peach coloured tie dye outfit from Yours Clothing I knew it was something I wanted to try but wasn’t sure I would be able to pull off…

I really love the colour and thought it would look really subtle against my caramel skin tone. My initial idea was that this would make for an edgy, girly, stylish yet comfortable outfit. I hate to say but I have always stayed away from items like this for fear of them making me look frumpy or poorly shaped, boy was I wrong! I really like how easy to wear this outfit is. The joggers were super comfy and were the perfect length for my 5’5 frame and they sit slightly high waisted which is always a bonus in my book. The elasticated waist with thick band are really light against the stmoach area and don’t pull or pinch in any way.

The hoodie is described as cold shouldered but as you can see by my the photos the entire upper arm is exposed, a detail I really liked about it. I found that even on a breezy day (which it was when I took these photos) I was really comfortable and didn’t feel the chill in the air. This one stopped just below my stomach area but would sit lower on women with a slightly smaller bust. I really like the hood detail but, with my hair as big as it is currently it’s not something I tried to put on lol. I’m wearing both of these items in a size 24.

As girly as the colouring is for this sweat suit, it made me feel pretty fierce and full of attitude. Some clothes really pull out the inner urban R&B chick in me and this outfit most definitely does that! I’m not sure if it’s the cut arms or the the all over tie dye but I really enjoy wearing this one. I decided to pair this with a simple pair of trainers from New Look and no accessories other than my signature hoop earrings. I find that with some looks less is definitely more and the bright bold colour and stylish hoodie were more than enough for the look I wanted to achieve.

Even though this outfit did bring out the inner diva in me, I also felt incredibly cute and girly wearing it. When I first put it on and completed my makeup I thought I’m gonna put my hair in two big puffy pigtails. I’m loving my curly crochet braids at the moment and find that they are an incredible protective style for my natural locks. I was recently in Las Vegas and so I needed protection from the desert heat!

So this is a lesson I have taught myself, when it comes to clothing and what you think will or won’t suit you, don’t be so sure of what you think you know! Try things out, play around and have fun with the different ways you can style an outfit up or down. Clothing is more than just something you wear! We have all heard the saying “fashion is a form of expression” and this is true! The clothes you wear can make you look and feel amazing so take some risks, you may be pleased with the results!

Remember whatever you wear, feel fabulous in it and do it with a smile!

Sex And The City Chic – A Lane Bryant Review

*This outfit was gifted

Anyone feeling festive? The time of year has come when everyone is in the holiday spirit. The streets are adorned with beautiful lights, fun activities are available for an afternoon of family fun and many people are getting ready for their office party to end the year with a bang! I like many other women out there try to make the most of the season. The events calendar is getting booked up, and our party looks are starting to come together following some amazing sales and offers over the Black Friday weekend. I am happy to say I have some fun, festive and sexy looks this December and I can’t wait to rock them!

Those of you who are familiar with my style will know that I love to dress up and get girly from time to time. More often than not when I want to tap into my softer side I’ll wear a 1950s swing dress, tailored bodycon dress or I’ll mix it up and go all out in a tutu! One of my all time favourite television shows, which just so happens to be a cult classic is the amazing Sex And The City! I was hooked on this show back in the day and find myself watching the entire collection of episodes every year around this time. My favourite character on the show was and is still Ms Carrie Bradshaw. I loved her style and sense of dress. She always managed to look sexy in an understated and feminine way with a bit of an edge. From the very first episode, right the way to the 2nd movie we saw Carrie rocking tutus in sleek and stylish ways…

Speaking of my love for tutus some of you may remember this look of mine from the summer…

I really enjoy big puffy skirts and usually they come at a midi length which is just the perfect length for me. I’m not a huge fan of how short skirts look on me and as I prefer to go bare legged, midi length skirts are perfect on my 5’5 frame. Recently I was given the opportunity to review some amazing clothes from Lane Bryant and they have a variety of winter looks to suit every shape and style. When I first saw their Metallic Layered Tulle Skirt I knew it was an item I just had to try! Once again I had an idea of a Carrie Bradshaw inspired look with a twist and this skirt was just perfect for what I had in mind!

I’m wearing this skirt in a 22/24 and I have to say the fit is amazing! The length gives a nice amount of coverage and feels really warm, especially for this time of year. Soft layers of chiffon on top of a lining in a soft gold, the ruffled layers and cut make for a really nice and stylish piece. Unfortunately this skirt is currently out of stock, hopefully they get more in, it’s such a gorgeous one! Usually this time of year I end up wearing dark colours with one burst of colour for fun. With this look I wanted a soft and girly look so when I saw the Metallic Ribbed Turtleneck I thought it would go really nice with the skirt.

I’m wearing this turtleneck sweater in a size 22/24 and I have to say I absolutely love this one! I have worn this top with jeans and wet look leggings and it works every time! The soft blush coloured fabric has soft touches of glitter and would be great for a casual yet festive item of clothing. To finish off my look I knew I wanted to wear my usual make up. I don’t really play around with my eye make up but I do like to try out different shades of lipstick. Hanna borrowed me one of hers to try and I absolutely loved how the deep plum colour contrasted with the blush and gold tones of my outfit.

I originally had planned to finish off this outfit with a pair of black heels but Hanna had pulled out a pair of cranberry heels that she had and thought would look great on. These are from New look but are unfortunately unavailable. The good news is that they have a new pair that are really similar so I may have to pick them up! I pulled on a sparkly black hair scarf to compliment the black on the heels and finished off the look with a rose gold clutch.

I look for fashion inspiration all the time and everywhere I go! Women all over the place have some amazing looks and really showcase their personality through their sense of style. It might be a TV character or someone down the street. I look for things I like and try to find ways to bring that into my personal style. You know what I always say, have fun with your look!

Remember whatever you wear, feel fabulous in it and wear it with a smile!

Paisley Passion!

So summer is here and I have to say the weather is all over the place here in the UK. Some days the heat is unbearable and others are filled with rain and cold winds! I like to be prepared for any sort of weather and in any season so my wardrobe is always filled with clothes for any occasion. Some people box up all of the clothes that are out of season and store them in a safe place ready to bring out when the seasons switch. Anyone who has ever been to the UK will know that doing that in some cases may not be such a good idea lol.

Recently Hanna and I went to see the SS15 collection for Junarose and were lucky enough to get a sneak peek at some of the lines coming this AW15. We were lucky enough to be gifted some items and to my luck the perfect dress was there for me to try! My love of wrap dresses is no secret, I find that they flatter women of all shapes and sizes and are generally really comfortable to wear. I have been known to wear mine across all seasons styling them with boots and some warmer items such as longline cardigans. I had been waiting to wear this gorgeous paisley print number on a day when the weather was just right. The light and airy fabric makes this one perfect for a really hot day and of course can be worn as a singular item. For me I wouldn’t be able to wear this dress on it’s own because of the way it hangs on me. My large behind and belly doesn’t allow for a full wrap towards the bottom of the garment so I decided to pair it with some old jeggings from Simply Be. I’m wearing this dress in size M which is equivalent to UK size 16/18 according to the Junarose website.

I’ll be totally honest this is one of those outfits that I didn’t put much thought into but I loved the end result in how it looks. What’s great about the dress is the versatility you have in wearing it. You put this one on like a robe or kimono and the ties are really long. There is a slight cut on the left handside of the garment for you to thread them through and tie as tightly or loosely as you wish. Often time with wrap dresses we women can have issue in the breast area with one of our girls trying to escape from the garment or some the fabric being too loose on one side. I was able to tie this one firmly and securely which gave me a really nice shape and housed by bust perfectly. I say this all the time, I love blue! Any chance I get to wear the colour I can and will so to have a wrap dress in blue and white paisley print is perfect for me! Unfortunately this print isn’t available on the Junarose site, I think this dress may have been a sample but there is a black option available in the exact same style.

Some of you may have seen that Evans recently launched a Style Has No Size campaign.  The slogan was created to allow women of all shapes and sizes the chance to celebrate their look throughout the summer. With some great t-shirts and tote bags available they make for a really cool addition to your summer look. Recently at the Style Has No Size press event for bloggers I was gifted this fun denim tote which I thought went perfectly with this outfit.

To finish off my look I went with my blue t-bar heels from New Look. I thought that due to the blodness of the paisley print on the dress I should keep things simple and so I pulled out my navy paisley print bandana and signature hoop earrings and I was good to go! There’s always a way to make something work for you even if you’re unsure. Try and put things together that you have in your closet and see what happens, you may be surprised of the outcome!

Remember whatever you wear, feel fabulous in it and wear it with a smile!

Baby Blue Dreams

The main thing I love about this time of year besides the warm sunshine is colour! For months we have had mostly dark and dreary colours present in our winter wardrobes. I don’t know about everyone else but nothing makes me feel better than wearing something bright and fun and when it comes to shopping, there’s nothing I like more than a bargain! It’s no secret that I’m obsessed with the colour blue in all shades and so I’ll be 100% honest here, when I saw that Hanna had purchased this amazing baby blue duster coat from Primark for just £3 it was my mission to see if I could get my hands on one!

What I love about this jacket besides the gorgeous pale blue colour is the fit! The sizing of this one if very generous and whilst I tried on Hanna’s size 16 version of the coat I decided to buy this one in a 20 to give myself plenty of arm room and to give this one an oversized feel. Most duster jackets/coats don’t have any fastenings, this one has buttons at the front to provide closure of the garment and there are usable pockets on each side!

A few days before I bought this coat I took my mum on a shopping trip and as soon as I saw these t-bar buckle wedges in blue I HAD to have them! Available from New Look in wide fit these feel amazing on! I love the comfort of wedges. Not only do they elongate your legs the way that heels do, you can wear these for hours on end without having to worry about pain at the balls of your feet. When you wear heeled shoes the larger the heel the less pain you will get as your body weight is properly supported which makes the footwear more comfortable.

I knew I wanted to keep the overall look really bright and fresh and so I pulled out a pair of stonewash jeggings from Simplybe and my oversized cold shoulder t-shirt dress from Boohoo. I should note that both of these items are from previous collections. Those of you who are familiar with my blog will know that I always buy new items with the idea of making them work with current ones in my wardrobe. We are still in that weird phase weather-wise when it’s too warm to be wearing thick items and scarves but still too cold to totally ditch the jackets and coats I wanted to be on trend with bright pastel shades but still covered enough to feel comfortable.

I wanted to wear very few accessories. I decided to wear a simple metallic heart necklace and of course my hoop earrings. True to my current look (and as  measure to hide my current hair problems) I opted for a blue bandana.

When it comes to putting together an outfit I usually find a staple theme and work around that. I might be focused on a colour or trend. I tend to pick a single item and build on that, in this case the jacket was my first selected item and I knew I wanted a casual and fun look with blues to work with it.

Have fun with your options and try out items in a series of looks to create more than one outfit. We’re all on a budget of some kind so see what you can do with what you have and hunt around for those bargains when you hit the high street!

Remember whatever you wear, feel fabulous in it and wear it with a smile!

Date Night City Lights

People describe themselves in many ways, one of the most common being in reference to their favourite time of the day. I am most definitely a night person. I enjoy the things that the night-time brings. No one is rushing around to get to work, most are relaxed after a busy work day, and the city of London most definitely looks it’s best with the night lights that cover the town. I especially love being by the Thames at night, seeing all the bridges lit up and the lights of the city skyline.

50 % of my wardrobe is filled with clothes to suit the night time atmosphere. I like to hit a club once in a while, go to a nice restaurant or just hang out with friends. I tend to go for clothes that are either loose and comfortable or tight and fierce! A sexy bodycon dress makes a woman look and feel amazing; power, confidence and style all rolled into one. Sometimes I like to find a combination of the two and recently I pieced together an outfit that did just that!

The amazing pleather fronted leggings from Misguided in size 24 are fast becoming one of my favourite pairs! These are high waisted which I think provides better comfort and a nicer look than low waisted leggings. There is a zip detail at the ankle which is a very small detail but adds a little something extra to the look. I paired this with a gorgeous black fit and flare top from Scarlett & Jo, size 24. The fit and flare design is really popular with ladies in both top and dress formats. What’s great about it is the way it hangs against your frame whilst moulding to the bust to provide a very sexy yet subtle look. The sweetheart detail across the top of the bust is a really nice addition combined with stretchy mesh sleeves.

I decided to keep a metallic focus when it came to my accessories. My black diamonte heart pendant chain from Primark was a must along with my love heart charm bracelet. Topped off with a holographic clutch and I was set! Thick black platform heels was my footwear selection. I wanted a look that would make me feel slick, sexy and ready for whatever the night should bring. The height of these shoes is higher than what I would normally wear but they are so comfortable with the feel of a wedge and really easy to walk in. From New Look these are a pair that would easily lend themselves to many different styles.

When I look good and feel comfortable in my clothes my confidence shines through. I know I’m not alone when I say that a lot of women strut down the street imagining themselves on a runway. Some outfits give you that extra spring in your step and make you feel amazing! Often these are the simple looks with a little something extra. This sort of look would work for pretty much anything. You could wear something like this for an afternoon lunch, a hot date or even a poetry reading. Whatever you pick out to wear make sure that if you are planning on having a good time, and that you feel great in what you’re wearing. I find this is the best way to set the day off in a great way!

Remember whatever you wear, feel fabulous in it and wear it with a smile!

Strictly For The Office – A Junarose Review

Recently I was at an event for Junarose and MSSVG. We were being shown the spring and summer range for next year. I have to say you are all in for a treat. There were some gorgeous new lines coming to suit all styles and shapes and I already have my eye on a gorgeous beach wear item so fingers crossed I’ll be able to pick that up when the time comes.

While I was there I was lucky enough to try out some of the current lines in the collection. I really like items that aren’t what they appear to be. This 3/4 mini dress looks like 2 separates when worn. The skirt of the dress cuts across the knee and the top half of the dress cuts short at the waist. I really liked how this one looked on and I knew it would be a good addition to my wardrobe and perfect to wear at the office.

I like the simplicity of this dress, the colour is a rich and warm one which is great for this time of year and actually compliments a lot of my accessories and make up colours. When you want something that is practical and comfortable but also flexible you look for items like this one, at least I do. I like the fact that this is something that can be worn as a single item or with a little added flavour. This time of year the cold can be rather harsh and the last thing you want is to be bogged down with layers that you don’t need. As much as I love a good bodycon dress it’s nice to not need spanx or shapewear, especially when the outfit in question was bought for the office. I really wanted this dress to hang as loosely as possibly on my frame. When you have a large bust it can sometimes be an issue when clothes hang incorrectly against your frame or cling too much in areas. I picked this one up in a XXL to give myself a little extra wiggle room. A smaller size would have fit me fine but it would have been more fitted.

I really like the detail at the back of the dress. The fabric from the front drapes behind your back leaving a V cut shape. I like that it adds something a little different to an otherwise simple dress

I decided to pair this with a simple pair of black high waisted leather-look leggings from New Look Inspire. Those of you who know my blog will know that I like pairing leggings with dresses. Not only are they extremely comfortable and easy to work with they don’t bunch up in areas the way that tights can.

If you haven’t noticed already I have a thing for hats at the moment especially berets so I thought my old black beret from Simply Be would be a nice addition to the look. To finish up I pulled on my favourite black pair of heels and  floral statement necklace from Primark. For that final bit of bling I wore the crystal stack ring from Evans.

I will most definitely be looking for more looks that are stylish and sophisticated and perfectly suited to the office. The key is to feel good and look good in what you’re wearing. I have some more office looks to come very soon so stay tuned!

Remember what ever you where, feel fabulous in it and where it with a smile!

On The Road To Edgy!

In the recent weeks I have seen so many conversations by ladies in the plus community about pushing boundaries with fashion. It seems that many women are frustrated with the lack of edginess out there. I personally think that you can be edgy in many ways. Sometimes it can be a combination of basic pieces that can create a somewhat edgy look.
I figure that being edgy and a little different isn’t always about outlandish and garish prints, crazy fabrics or asymmetrical cuts. In this outfit I am wearing the most simple and safe colours you can think of; black and grey, but I think what makes it a little edgy is the difference in the items.
The metallic silver top from Junarose (size medium) is paired with simple black leggings from Yours Clothing (size 22). As the top is a short one and stops just under my stomach I decided to add my pleather skater skirt from Simplybe (size 24) to the ensemble. I always wear something over my leggings unless the top or dress is at a length where my behind is suitably covered.
London weather tends to get rather chilly and as I was heading to the club shortly after these photos were taken, I thought it best to add this jacket by New Look Inspire range (size 22).
It should be noted that all of these items are from previous collections.
When I wear skater skirts I like them to be fairly high waisted. I find that they really work with t-shirts and crop tops. Unless I’m dressed up in a vintage style I tend to select items of clothing that can be versatile and worn in either causal or dressy styles. Every single one of the items can and will be worn in other outfits and I look forward to showing you some more variations soon. The great thing about each piece is that they are all light in weight and feel extremely comfortable on.
Had I been wearing this outfit out and about during the day I most likely would have added a series of accessories. A necklace or two, bangles etc. I think I would have added a bit of colour with my chosen accessories, perhaps opting for a cobalt blue handbag, blue shoes and some acrylic jewellery. I most definitely would have worn heels too. For me this was a simple outfit to wear at the club without too much flash or glitz. I was aiming for something comfortable to dance in without anything to get in the way or get snagged on by potential passers by and other club goers. Keeping it simple with just hoop earrings was my only addition to the look.
Take a look in your wardrobe, see what you have and play around, you may be pleasantly surprised!

One T-Shirt Two Looks!

When it comes to shopping I try my utmost to buy items that I can use in many different outfits. I often buy simple and plain staple pieces that I can make adaptations with or use in a variety of different styles. Recently I picked up two long sleeved t-shirts, both exactly the same only in different colour ways from Yours Clothing at the combined cost of £12, a total bargain or at £8 each. I decided to do a bit of a mix and match session with some of the items in my wardrobe and I came up with 2 simple looks; one causal and the other a little more dressy.
Look number 1: Casual Chic
I decided to go really causal with this look. Sometimes you just want to be able to throw on something simple that you’ll feel comfortable doing the day to day tasks in. This is an outfit I could wear to work or just chilling in. I paired the tee with a simple pair of black jeans from the New Look Inspire range. With accessories I decided to add a large black handbag from Primark, simple silver bangles, hoop earnings, steel link choker and flat shoes.
Look 2: Sassy & Sophisticated
The funny thing about this look is that the changes are minor in comparison to look number 1. A simple tube skirt, tights and platform heels suddenly make an otherwise casual look a lot more dressy and sophisticated looking. The classic dogtooth print skirt is my favourite piece in this outfit!
After a recent blogger purchase from the gorgeous Hanna over at The Wardrobe Challenge this item is now a part of my collection. The skirt, originally from Excite Clothing feels amazing on and the length is really nice, as you can see I have worn this one over the t-shirt with the elasticated waist just under the bust line. I decided to wear the exact same accessories with the two outfits to highlight how a simple tweak can totally change the look of an outfit. A slight adjustment for this look was simply rolling up the sleeves, again the small tweaks can totally make the difference!
Overall the fit of the t-shirt is a really nice one. It simply sweeps over my frame comfortably with no tight spots anywhere. I picked this one up in a size 22/24. I wanted something with a loose fit that would compliment pretty much any pair of trousers or leggings. I could have gone for the size down but I often like bigger t-shirts as ones in my usual size can often cling tightly across the bust line which can look pretty hot, but sometimes I like to wear something a little more discreet, especially if I plan on wearing it to work.
