In The Varsity

A plus size woman smiling wearing a metallic varsity jacket, black coated jeggings, and black Chelsea boots

Sometimes things just come together in a way that works. I love to get girly and dressed up as you guys know but I do love being comfortable and casual. I have always loved varsity jackets. This might have something to do with my appreciation of vintage fashion? When I take a look in my wardrobe I see a series of jackets all with a varsity cut. I currently have 3 Michael Jackson ones, 2 basic casual ones and now this hot metallic number! Navabi contacted me over Christmas and asked me if I would like to select a gift to celebrate the holidays. It was actually Hanna who spotted this one and was like ‘this jacket is so you!’. Of course she was right, I wanted it as soon as I saw it!

In some ways i’m a typical woman, I love shinny things! Metallic and sparkly clothing items draw me in the same way a woman is pulled to jewels. I know we’re in the new season but I still have an appreciation for metallic fashion. What I love about this jacket is that unlike many, the distressed texture adds some edge and difference to things. The long-line cut makes this one workable with bodycon dresses, jeans, tunics, t-shirts and a multitude of items. I should note though that the glitter does like to get on other clothes so you may wish to select light or grey items to wear with it! Most of us like to up-size with jackets and coats to accommodate the clothes under and make room for our bust. I got this one in size 26/28.

Monochrome outfits for me are so easy to wear and can be casual with a twist. I decided that rather than wear black and white i’d select black and silver items. Evans recently sent me a pair of coated jeggings and I thought that the texture against the metallic jacket would be a fun look. These are a true to fit size and are high waisted. I’m wearing these in a size 24. I feel that black items are so easy to incorporate into the wardrobe and make for a great basic.

Sometimes you want to wear an outfit that is simple, comfortable and effortless. I do find that items like varsity jackets can be worn in so many ways. If you wanna see how I wore one in a sexier and dressier look check out this post from last year. As I always say multipurpose clothing items are great for those of us on a budget! I plan on wearing this jacket with a series of different items. Why worry about people seeing you in the same thing more than once. It gives you the chance to be creative?!

I thought pair these items with an oversized black top and i’d put my hair in bunches, keep my makeup simple and wear my signature hoop earrings with my long cross chain. A simple yet flashy look all at the same time lol. As I said before I don’t think you can go wrong with shinny things lol. Maybe next i’ll add a pop of colour to switch things up a little. Stay tuned, who knows I may include this one in another outfit on the blog one day!

Soft, Blue And Velvet

A plus size woman smiling wearing a blue velvet wrap dress, blue sequin beret, black fluffy bag, tights and black ankle boots

It’s the end of the year and as we are enjoying the remaining days in our Christmas break, making the most of the good food and chill time. At the moment most people are thinking of how they want to bring in the new year. Thoughts of resolutions are taking place, people are wondering who will give them a kiss when the clock strikes twelve… others take the time to think about what they will be wearing and how much alcohol they will or won’t consume lol. Making the most of this season and the weather I will again be either wearing a velvet or a sequin number.

This is the third and final instalment of my velvet series. I started off by writing about another soft velvet wrap dress. I then followed this by discussing a mulled wine dress, perfect for Christmas. I’ve been having fun and recently Navabi sent me this gorgeous wrap dress and I was thrilled! Manon Baptiste are known for luxurious premium fashion for us plus size women and offer a fabulous range of clothing. If you’re looking for something with that extra wow factor they can and will deliver! What I love about this dress besides the gorgeous colour and sumptuous velvet is the design. To me the dress is a cross between an elegant wrap dress and feminine smokers jacket. The lace trim adds a sassy feminine touch perfect for some additional elegance and the v-neck cut is perfect to showcase the decolletage.

The soft velvet is thick and warm and has a nice amount of stretch. This cut would suit women of all shapes and moulds perfectly to the curves. The ties are really long so you can pretty much wear them in whatever way makes you feel comfortable. With 2 invisible loops, one on each side of the waist, this is one that you can feel secure wearing without having to worry about adjusting constantly. I really like that the sleeves are long as you still feel covered even though you may have your legs on show and some cleavage out. This one is definitely true to size. I selected this in a size 24.

When putting this outfit together I was heading out for a Christmas get together with friends. The idea was to be festive and stylish. I pulled on a simple pair of black tights and wore my newest pair of ankle boots from Yours Clothing. To finish things off I dug out my old blue sequin blue beret for added sparkle. I thought my new fluffy clutch from In The Style would be perfect as the black compliments the hem of the dress, my tights and hair colour. The silver chain works perfectly with my hoop earrings and the sparkle in my hat.

Blue is my favourite colour! It is really nice to be able to wear another fab dress in rich royal blue. Who can go wrong in soft, sumptuous velvet?! There isn’t a person alive who doesn’t feel fabulous when they wear this luscious fabric. Who knows I may even wear both sequins and velvet to bring in the new year! Whatever i’ll be wearing it’ll definitely be stylish and fun!

Something Sweet

A plus size woman smiling wearing a denim pussybow shirt, faux leather skirt and heels

It’s that time of year when the winter cold has finally set in. We all struggle to figure out what to wear when battling the elements. I like to still bring in my style with the new season as well as dress in a comfortable and bright way. I love the blacks, greys and navys as much as the next girl, but sometimes something else is required. Don’t you wanna have that little something extra than everyone else in your outfit? Navabi reached out to me and sent me an amazing outfit of my choice and guess what, it can be yours too! Before we get into what I mean by that let me break down my look for you…

If you have been following my blog for a while you’ll know I have a thing for cute shirts! Pussybow shirts and tops have very much been the in style for a couple of years now. Marina Rinaldi are the brand behind this amazing one i’m wearing! Denim is a fabric with limited stretch and so like I do with all of my shirts I picked this one up in a larger size than what I would usually wear, size 26 to be exact. Those of us women with larger boobs have to accommodate for the fastening of buttons and the possibility of gaping. It should be noted that I wasn’t wearing the best bra when I took these photos. I was unwell at the time and comfort was my priority. It’s a really nice length though and can easily be worn with other skirts, trousers and jeans.

So the shirt was the first item I picked when putting this look together. You know me, I like items that can be worn in a variety of ways. I did however decide to select an item that would be great for the season and could be worn with other items in my closest. This led me to the fabulous a-line faux leather skirt in Bordeaux red colour. A warm colour perfect for both autumn and winter, especially the Christmas season. I already knew that I had a variety of lipstick shades that would make a perfect match! I also knew that I had the perfect pair of heels to compliment my look. This I selected in a size 24. I also selected a pair of 60 denier tights, size 24-26. Once the cold sets in it’s always good to have a nice pair to keep the chill at bay.

All you have to do is as follows, the winner will be selected at random and the outfit will be theirs! Good luck everyone!

It’s All About The Ruffles

A plus size woman smiling wearing a pink gingham ruffle shirt, denim mini skirt and high heels

Don’t you just love it when you find an item of clothing that you can wear in many different ways? A few months back, I was at a preview for some fresh new styles for AW17. Block colours, fun prints and bold cuts were on display for us to see. Navabi is a brand that carries a collection of styles from a wide selection of plus size brands, each with their own flair and all with quality and originality at the forefront of their ethos. One of my very own blogging sisters Bethany aka Arched Eyebrow designed one of their current collections. You can see my review of her hot pink pussy bow blouse here. In truth the cobalt blue items were of course ones I wanted to try out but it was the pink lines that most captivated me, especially this ruffled gingham shirt.

What immediately caught my eye was of course the baby pink gingham. As a huge lover of vintage fashion, gingham contributes to some of my favourite rockabilly and retro looks. The freshness of the colouring with this shirt made the item a transitional piece in my view. I opted to wear a denim mini skirt and high heels with this one but I could see myself styling it in many ways. This could make for a fun and vibrant item in the office or a fun casual item. I could even see this one being worn with a little cowgirl magic for a fab rodeo feel. Bethany 100% has a style of her own and these ruffles are most definitely her!

Trying to find ways to make a classic piece like a shirt have something different can be a huge challenge. The cut and shape of this ruffled gingham shirt is flattering on women of all shapes, sizes, and colours. What I like is that the ruffles bring something fresh and new to whatever you match the shirt with. In my case I wanted a rodeo cowgirl look with a twist. Gingham is something I tend to pair with fun bandanas and cute handbags but I thought i’d let the shirt do the talking this time.

People often assume that I have spades of confidence which I do, but we all have those areas we need to work on. In my case I struggle to show my legs. I hate that they’re covered in scars from playful times in my childhood and aren’t as shapely as I’d like. With all that being said I have always decided to throw myself into the deep end and showcase the very thing I hate to push the boundaries where my confidence lies. This has always helped me in overcoming those personal demons. It helps when you have a baby pink ruffled gingham shirt on with statement shoulders! I find that if you have on an item with a statement colour or cut, the focus is geared to that area. I also find myself feeling more comfortable in that situation.

If you’re looking for something bright and colourful this AW17 then you have to check out the collection by Bethany. Who said autumn and winter has to be dressed in black?! If like me you enjoy bringing colour to the colder months of the year you won’t be disappointed.
