Sophisticated Chic – A Junarose Review

*This Dress Is A Gifted Item

There are many things I love about the current options plus size women have when it comes to fashion and beauty. One in particular are the multipurpose clothing items out there. Many of us are busy working women, some even have the added challenge of raising a family. We all have our things to do and time can be taxing so it’s nice to have comfortable casual style options that work between personal and professional, night and day.

I love dresses of all shapes, colours and styles but I have to admit my closet holds only a few strapless items. Like many curvy girls out there my arms have been a sore spot for me confidence wise and it’s only been about a year or so since I realised having my arms out doesn’t bother me at all anymore. I guess you could say I was worried about my biceps being a little too chunky. As time has passed things like that don’t really bother me in the same way that they used to. Those of you who are familiar with my blog will know that I’m all about wearing what you like and not really thinking about what other people’s opinions are…

I was recently given the chance to go through some amazing Junarose samples and one dress that caught my eye is this wrap front maxi dress. I instantly knew that this dress would be perfect for some casual wear, a day out with friends or even a business lunch. Stopping just across the calf this one makes for a nice length on my 5’5 frame. Perfect if you want to show off a little skin without showing too much. In a soft periwinkle blue with added tie detail this strapless number is most definitely a multipurpose dress! The wrap front with lapel detail gives off a tasteful amount of cleavage and the ties are a small but really nice addition.

I decided to wear this one with some strappy black sandals and a simple clutch. A cute blazer, denim or even a biker jacket would help in bringing this dress into more of an evening look. The block colour also makes this one work with gold or silver adornments and accessories. I recently had my hair in braids so with this look I decided to sweep them up into a bun and wear simply diamante stud earrings. I kept my makeup simple, wearing a deep pink lip for a bit of added colour.

This dress is currently on sale, available from the Junarose website.

Casual Chic – A Junarose Review

*This Dress Was A Gifted Item

Every now again you find the perfect item of clothing that you can wear in several ways that suits your style down to the ground! Recently when I was given the opportunity to check out the current collection from Junarose clothing, I was given several items for review. Junarose has fast become a brand that I wear pretty much all the time. The slick and modern styles, amazing quality and super flattering garments that they produce are second to none!

When I first saw the drapy dress, I was first taken by the strikeout pattern and soft jersey fabric. I’m a huge fan of t-shirt dresses as I like stylish items that sit comfortably and have plenty of stretch. What I love about this dress in particular is that it seems to have 3 different styles rolled into one. To me, the drapy dress is a combination of a shift dress, bodycon and t-shirt dress.

I’m wearing this dress in a size M and as you can see I have plenty of room and comfort. What I love is that this dress doesn’t cling anywhere, yet it drapes perfectly over your curves, still allowing you to showcase your shape. A feature I really like about this dress is the round neck detail. Often dresses of this style would have a wrapped front of plunged neckline to showcase some cleavage. Now I’m no stranger to cleavage and I enjoy showing mine every now and then but, I do like that because my chest is concealed I can wear this dress pretty much anywhere and could take it from a casual day look, into an evening look simply by changing my accessories.

I used to pretty much live in black clothes and mostly wore the colour because I was listening to the age old theory that black is best because it’s slimming. Those of you who are familiar with my blog will know how much I love colour and that I try to embrace it within my style. With all that being said I still own a ton of black clothes as I find they make amazing staple pieces which work well when combining your outfits. This dress does something that I love! The colour allows for a cool monochrome look or you can match bold and striking colours in for a more playful finish.

I wanted a casual and sophisticated look when I took these photos. I thought I would go for monochrome styling and so it was an easy look for me to pull together. A simple pair of black leggings, my gold chained black boots, black beret and my signature hoop earrings. As winter is well and truly starting to set in I thought I’d pair the look with my cream boucle coat also from Junarose. This one was a sample that was given to me again in size M. I don’t think it’s currently available as I was unable to find a link on their website. My box grid necklace was a must for a little added sparkle and Hanna’s monochrome pallet clutch which she let me borrow.

I don’t deal with the winter months too well. I’m really a summer baby and enjoy the heat and everything else that comes with it. I try to find ways to incorporate some of my summer clothes into the winter wardrobe. Due to lack of space and my need to be efficient I find that this gives me more wear out of my outfits. Have a look in your wardrobes, you may be surprised what items can be switched between seasons. Luckily for me the need for hats is becoming more evident with the cold chill in the air. My obsession with beret hats has gotten worse and I have just bought several in some interesting and fun colours, I’m sure they will make an appearance on the blog in the near future. Have fun out there everyone and stay warm!

Leather And Lace – A Junarose Review

*This Dress Was A Gifted Item

Sometimes you see an item of clothing that you just have to have! It’s your ultimate style, great colour and detail and something you know you can style up or down. Recently I was given the opportunity to check out the latest collections from Junarose with Hanna and we were both given the chance to leaf through some samples and take a few bits.

I had previously bought into the lies about white being a colour big girls should avoid because it makes us look larger. I’m also the sort of person who would happen to eat something containing tomatoes and end up wearing half of it down my front lol. Over the years I have changed my mind set about white clothes and now I own tones of them! I chose this gorgeous white lace dress because I instantly liked it after seeing it. I’m wearing this in a size M and I absolutely love it! The fit is just perfect for me, moulding against my bust and behind to enhance my curves and stopping just above the knee.

If anyone is considering purchasing this one I should note that the lace is a really soft stretch lace that is really comfortable to wear. Unlike some lace items I have worn in the past this one doesn’t cling or pinch anywhere, especially the arms. As you all know my arms a little on the chunkier side and I have had issues with some tops and jackets in the past because of this and have had to up-size from time to time for more comfort.

I chose to wear this one with leggings. As I have a fairly sizeable behind the dress hitches up just a little too much for me to wear this as a singular item but that of course would be different from woman to woman. One thing I love about this dress is the lining, a really soft material I believe to be Toulouse. I really like that you can wear this dress with pretty much any bra you like without having the straps on show.

I have worn this dress a few times now and each time has been different. You can really dress this one up with some pearl jewellery, heels and a really sweet jacket. I thought it would be cool to put it with black leggings, leather boots and top it off with my biker jacket. You all know I love my beret hats as they are so comfortable and can also be added to really casual or dressy looks. This one is a really old one from Simply Be but the colour was just perfect to work alongside the dress and an easy option for me to just slip on. Hot pink lipstick and some silvery jewellery and I was ready and set to go!

I love how some items can be right up your street but have a little bit of a twist. If you like this lace dress you’ll be pleased to know it’s currently available on the Junarose website along with some other lace items that are amazing! I have seen some of the upcoming collection and I have to say you’re in for a treat ladies, stay tuned to see what’s coming!

Paisley Passion!

So summer is here and I have to say the weather is all over the place here in the UK. Some days the heat is unbearable and others are filled with rain and cold winds! I like to be prepared for any sort of weather and in any season so my wardrobe is always filled with clothes for any occasion. Some people box up all of the clothes that are out of season and store them in a safe place ready to bring out when the seasons switch. Anyone who has ever been to the UK will know that doing that in some cases may not be such a good idea lol.

Recently Hanna and I went to see the SS15 collection for Junarose and were lucky enough to get a sneak peek at some of the lines coming this AW15. We were lucky enough to be gifted some items and to my luck the perfect dress was there for me to try! My love of wrap dresses is no secret, I find that they flatter women of all shapes and sizes and are generally really comfortable to wear. I have been known to wear mine across all seasons styling them with boots and some warmer items such as longline cardigans. I had been waiting to wear this gorgeous paisley print number on a day when the weather was just right. The light and airy fabric makes this one perfect for a really hot day and of course can be worn as a singular item. For me I wouldn’t be able to wear this dress on it’s own because of the way it hangs on me. My large behind and belly doesn’t allow for a full wrap towards the bottom of the garment so I decided to pair it with some old jeggings from Simplybe. I’m wearing this dress in size M which is equivalent to UK size 16/18 according to the Junarose website.

I’ll be totally honest this is one of those outfits that I didn’t put much thought into but I loved the end result in how it looks. What’s great about the dress is the versatility you have in wearing it. You put this one on like a robe or kimono and the ties are really long. There is a slight cut on the left handside of the garment for you to thread them through and tie as tightly or loosely as you wish. Often time with wrap dresses we women can have issue in the breast area with one of our girls trying to escape from the garment or some the fabric being too loose on one side. I was able to tie this one firmly and securely which gave me a really nice shape and housed by bust perfectly. I say this all the time, I love blue! Any chance I get to wear the colour I can and will so to have a wrap dress in blue and white paisley print is perfect for me! Unfortunately this print isn’t available on the Junarose site, I think this dress may have been a sample but there is a black option available in the exact same style.

Some of you may have seen that Evans recently launched a Style Has No Size campaign.  The slogan was created to allow women of all shapes and sizes the chance to celebrate their look throughout the summer. With some great t-shirts and tote bags available they make for a really cool addition to your summer look. Recently at the Style Has No Size press event for bloggers I was gifted this fun denim tote which I thought went perfectly with this outfit.

To finish off my look I went with my blue t-bar heels from New Look. I thought that due to the blodness of the paisley print on the dress I should keep things simple and so I pulled out my navy paisley print bandana and signature hoop earrings and I was good to go! There’s always a way to make something work for you even if you’re unsure. Try and put things together that you have in your closet and see what happens, you may be surprised of the outcome!

Welcoming Spring And Summer With George

It’s finally the time of year when things are moving fast. The clocks have changed and it’s officially British summer time. I love this time of year, the days are longer, nights shorter and all of the fashion brands have launched their spring and summer looks for the season.

A couple of weeks ago Hanna, Isha and I attended the press day for George Asda at Somerset House. I have to say I was really impressed with loads of the things that they have on offer, from gorgeous new clothing options to home wear. The girls and I were able to select some items for review and one of the ones I selected is this gorgeous Lace Back Blouse. I love clothes that have a wrap detail in the front. I find that tops and dresses that have this detail work for women of all shapes and sizes and can add a subtle and sexy hint to a more casual or sophisticated item.

What I loved about this top is how light and airy it is. The long sleeves make this item something that is wearable on a warm day whilst providing additional coverage for the evening breeze that hits the air this time of year. I love that the colour and material make this an item that would be suited to work and days out. I’m wearing this in a size 24 as I wanted a slightly oversized look. I really like the crochey detail at the back which is a really nice feature and again, allows the top to have a light and airy feel when wearing it.

This top is currently available in sizes 8-24 and I can honestly say it would make a nice addition to any wardrobe. I paired this with a pair of Jeans from Junarose, unfortunately this particular pair is from a previous season but be sure to check out the website as there are some great new styles available.

Currently in London we are experiencing really changeable weather so when I put this outfit together my idea was to have something warm and comfortable and still be prepared for the weather to make a sudden switch. I thought that my Biker Jacket from Yours Clothing would be a good option.

Those who know me well will be aware that when I put my outfits together I ALWAYS try to colour coordinate. I have a big thing about wearing colours that compliment each other and so I often select makeup or accessories based on a colour somewhere in my chosen outfit. When I have the time I go as far as to matching my nail polish to an outfit too. You know what they say, the devil is in the details! I love the ombre dip-dye look of these jeans as there are several shades of blue all rolled into one.

When it came to accessories I was lucky to have had those pre-selected. The baby blue duffle bag I’m wearing is also from George and is currently available. I tried to find a link for this one on the site but I only came across the black version. For those of you who like the blue you may find it in selected stores. The sunglasses I have on are also part of the new collection so it’s definitely worth checking out the website to see what cool accessories they currently have on offer.

My black platform heels and large diamonte ring are from Primark and are old favourites of mine that I pull out from time to time. I thought my beret would also be a nice addition to the look and would give the outfit just the right amount of black that I wanted. Sometimes I like to keep things simple, I find that by doing this, the days when I do get dolled up are more fun.

We’ve reached the time of year when people are planning their summer holidays so take a look in your wardrobe and see what great items might be due a re-vamp. Of course we all like to add new bits to our closets so take a look at what’s out there. I have seen some great options on sale at great prices. George have some great bits available so don’t forget to take a look at the website.

Strictly For The Office – A Junarose Review

Recently I was at an event for Junarose and MSSVG. We were being shown the spring and summer range for next year. I have to say you are all in for a treat. There were some gorgeous new lines coming to suit all styles and shapes and I already have my eye on a gorgeous beach wear item so fingers crossed I’ll be able to pick that up when the time comes.

While I was there I was lucky enough to try out some of the current lines in the collection. I really like items that aren’t what they appear to be. This 3/4 mini dress looks like 2 separates when worn. The skirt of the dress cuts across the knee and the top half of the dress cuts short at the waist. I really liked how this one looked on and I knew it would be a good addition to my wardrobe and perfect to wear at the office.

I like the simplicity of this dress, the colour is a rich and warm one which is great for this time of year and actually compliments a lot of my accessories and make up colours. When you want something that is practical and comfortable but also flexible you look for items like this one, at least I do. I like the fact that this is something that can be worn as a single item or with a little added flavour. This time of year the cold can be rather harsh and the last thing you want is to be bogged down with layers that you don’t need. As much as I love a good bodycon dress it’s nice to not need spanx or shapewear, especially when the outfit in question was bought for the office. I really wanted this dress to hang as loosely as possibly on my frame. When you have a large bust it can sometimes be an issue when clothes hang incorrectly against your frame or cling too much in areas. I picked this one up in a XXL to give myself a little extra wiggle room. A smaller size would have fit me fine but it would have been more fitted.

I really like the detail at the back of the dress. The fabric from the front drapes behind your back leaving a V cut shape. I like that it adds something a little different to an otherwise simple dress

I decided to pair this with a simple pair of black high waisted leather-look leggings from New Look Inspire. Those of you who know my blog will know that I like pairing leggings with dresses. Not only are they extremely comfortable and easy to work with they don’t bunch up in areas the way that tights can.

If you haven’t noticed already I have a thing for hats at the moment especially berets so I thought my old black beret from Simplybe would be a nice addition to the look. To finish up I pulled on my favourite black pair of heels and  floral statement necklace from Primark. For that final bit of bling I wore the crystal stack ring from Evans.

I will most definitely be looking for more looks that are stylish and sophisticated and perfectly suited to the office. The key is to feel good and look good in what you’re wearing. I have some more office looks to come very soon so stay tuned!

Animal Magic! A Junarose Review

Hey everyone I hope all is well. I’m sorry that things have been quiet here on the blog recently. I have been snowed under at work and I had a lot to take care of before I could get back to posting. The good news is that there are a lot of new and fun trends to talk about this season. I have some new looks to share with you all and we’re about to approach the winter holiday season

I was recently at a blogger event for one of my favourite brands Junarose. The event was in conjunction with MSSVG and showcased some of their amazing new lines, set to be with us next spring. At the event we were lucky enough to pick an item from their current collection to review. As soon as I saw the gorgeous animal print jacket I new that was the item I wanted to try the most.

I make no secret about the things I really like in fashion and I have to admit I am forming a bit of an obsession with animal prints. I have skirts, tops, lingerie and now this gorgeous jacket! When it comes to the cold months of the year I usually feel uncomfortable weather-wise. Mountains of layers are required to keep the cold at bay and the constant fight against the wind and the rain is never fun. For me the most important thing when it comes to my winter wardrobe are my coats. Usually practicality and comfort give way to style which is why I was so excited to try this thick and puffy jacket which encompasses the practicalities and comfort I need with my sense of style. I picked this one up in a XXL. Depending on how big your waist and breasts are you may need to be careful when selecting a size for this one. The jacket tappers in slightly around the waist to accent the curves we have there. In my case I usually have to size up with any clothing items which need to be zipped or button fastened because of my bust size.

The season tends to present us with loads of dark colours and prints so to be able to add a splash of colour and style into the mix only makes for cool winter looks.

I have to say I really like the feel of this coat on. The lining is thin which makes wearing sweaters and stuff quite comfortable for a jacket of this shape. I also like the fact that it is really warm when on; so if you’re one of the people who doesn’t like to wear thick layers in the winter this would be one that you will enjoy wearing with tees and other lighter items. Despite being a fairly puffy jacket it’s not heavy in weight at all and makes for a really comfortable wear.

Even though this jacket has an animal print on it; the colours are rich and more subtle than some of the other animal print jackets and coats on the market. I really like the fact that for a bold print it doesn’t look too jazzy or bright. I should also mention that I have recently worn this in the rain and it doesn’t drink in the rain water like some of my previous coats have. No one wants to have to wear a coat or jacket that gets heavy and water logged in the rain. The pockets are also fairly deep and have snap button detail for security.

With this outfit I decided to put the jacket with a cold shoulder dress by Boohoo size 24. I like dresses like these to hang loosely on my frame because of the neck detail and length. I think that items like this can be really unflattering on my frame if they are too fitted as they hang loose in areas and cling too much in the breast and stomach areas. I paired this dress with a simple pair of black trousers and my Legroom boots from Fashionworld.

I thought I would keep the accessories to a minimum and so I wore my black and pink lightning bolt necklace, my trademark hoop earrings and simple black bag. As the weather is getting colder my hair scarves will most definitely be making many appearances in my looks. I love them as an accessory because they are a great way to keep warm and hide the odd bad hair day!

I’d like to take a moment to give a shout-out to Dale Grimshaw. I may not have met him but when we stumbled across his gorgeous artwork it made for a really fun background for these outfit pictures. What a talent!

Black Fusion, A Simple Experiment!

Hello everyone sorry I’ve been away for a few days, I have been snowed under at work and have been unable to write up a post for you lovely lot. Work commitments have been pretty heavy for me at the moment but you will see more of me in the next few days…
When it comes to what I wear I have no set rules to my style repertoire. I know some ladies have those little things that they “always” do when it comes to selecting the garments that they wear.
In my case I see what works together, if it suits the given weather outside and I’ll find a way to make it work for me. Despite the fact that many of us shy away from black clothing due to the never ending barrage of fashion rules set forth by us about what we can and can’t wear; I like to incorporate black into my wardrobe. Usually these items fall into the staple bracket but I actually thought I would have a bit of fun with the colour. I know we have all heard those tales about black being slimming, a girls best friend etc etc. I actually love the colour as I see it as a blank canvas you can make work with pretty much anything. Another bonus, it works against every skin tone!
I have been going through many fashion magazines lately and seeing what other people are doing with outfits and I have to say I love the idea of mixing fabrics! I think it gives an outfit another dimension and that little something extra to make it pop on the street. I thought I would try and do this and so I mixed denim, lace and polyester. Of course I didn’t stop there though, I picked items with even more extras…
The top is a piece that I really enjoying wearing, it has a V cut in the back by the shoulders and the length is perfect in both the front and the back. I don’t like to wear too many tops that are long in the front so this one has a really nice shape for me. The back is long and goes over your bottom which is great for coverage if you want to wear leggings with it. Made from polyester and dressed in a floral velvet detail the piece from Evans makes for a really nice piece in the wardrobe. I have this in a size 22.
The lace jacket is a piece that I have a major soft spot for! I think that lace is such a sexy fabric and that it gives a totally new element to an ensemble. The jacket from Live Unlimited (available at Evans) in size 24 is one that I will definitely bring out on the town with many different looks.
If you know my blog then you’ll be familiar with the jeans. From Junarose these are my sparkle and glam jeans. The diamanté detail is the thing I like the most about these, I have them in a size XXL.
When it came to accessories I thought it best to keep it simple. Seeing as I have so many different textures and things going on in the outfit I went for my simple polka dot drop earrings, Collectif pearl and diamanté bow bracelet and my trusty black platform heels.
Play around in your wardrobe and if you don’t want to go wild maybe just start off with one colour. I thought it was fun and I enjoyed wearing this look.

On The Road To Edgy!

In the recent weeks I have seen so many conversations by ladies in the plus community about pushing boundaries with fashion. It seems that many women are frustrated with the lack of edginess out there. I personally think that you can be edgy in many ways. Sometimes it can be a combination of basic pieces that can create a somewhat edgy look.
I figure that being edgy and a little different isn’t always about outlandish and garish prints, crazy fabrics or asymmetrical cuts. In this outfit I am wearing the most simple and safe colours you can think of; black and grey, but I think what makes it a little edgy is the difference in the items.
The metallic silver top from Junarose (size medium) is paired with simple black leggings from Yours Clothing (size 22). As the top is a short one and stops just under my stomach I decided to add my pleather skater skirt from Simplybe (size 24) to the ensemble. I always wear something over my leggings unless the top or dress is at a length where my behind is suitably covered.
London weather tends to get rather chilly and as I was heading to the club shortly after these photos were taken, I thought it best to add this jacket by New Look Inspire range (size 22).
It should be noted that all of these items are from previous collections.
When I wear skater skirts I like them to be fairly high waisted. I find that they really work with t-shirts and crop tops. Unless I’m dressed up in a vintage style I tend to select items of clothing that can be versatile and worn in either causal or dressy styles. Every single one of the items can and will be worn in other outfits and I look forward to showing you some more variations soon. The great thing about each piece is that they are all light in weight and feel extremely comfortable on.
Had I been wearing this outfit out and about during the day I most likely would have added a series of accessories. A necklace or two, bangles etc. I think I would have added a bit of colour with my chosen accessories, perhaps opting for a cobalt blue handbag, blue shoes and some acrylic jewellery. I most definitely would have worn heels too. For me this was a simple outfit to wear at the club without too much flash or glitz. I was aiming for something comfortable to dance in without anything to get in the way or get snagged on by potential passers by and other club goers. Keeping it simple with just hoop earrings was my only addition to the look.
Take a look in your wardrobe, see what you have and play around, you may be pleasantly surprised!
