In The Varsity

Sometimes things just come together in a way that works. I love to get girly and dressed up as you guys know but I do love being comfortable and casual. I have always loved varsity jackets. This might have something to do with my appreciation of vintage fashion? When I take a look in my wardrobe I see a series of jackets all with a varsity cut. I currently have 3 Michael Jackson ones, 2 basic casual ones and now this hot metallic number! Navabi contacted me over Christmas and asked me if I would like to select a gift to celebrate the holidays. It was actually Hanna who spotted this one and was like ‘this jacket is so you!’. Of course she was right, I wanted it as soon as I saw it!

In some ways i’m a typical woman, I love shinny things! Metallic and sparkly clothing items draw me in the same way a woman is pulled to jewels. I know we’re in the new season but I still have an appreciation for metallic fashion. What I love about this jacket is that unlike many, the distressed texture adds some edge and difference to things. The long-line cut makes this one workable with bodycon dresses, jeans, tunics, t-shirts and a multitude of items. I should note though that the glitter does like to get on other clothes so you may wish to select light or grey items to wear with it! Most of us like to up-size with jackets and coats to accommodate the clothes under and make room for our bust. I got this one in size 26/28.

Monochrome outfits for me are so easy to wear and can be casual with a twist. I decided that rather than wear black and white i’d select black and silver items. Evans recently sent me a pair of coated jeggings and I thought that the texture against the metallic jacket would be a fun look. These are a true to fit size and are high waisted. I’m wearing these in a size 24. I feel that black items are so easy to incorporate into the wardrobe and make for a great basic.

Sometimes you want to wear an outfit that is simple, comfortable and effortless. I do find that items like varsity jackets can be worn in so many ways. If you wanna see how I wore one in a sexier and dressier look check out this post from last year. As I always say multipurpose clothing items are great for those of us on a budget! I plan on wearing this jacket with a series of different items. Why worry about people seeing you in the same thing more than once. It gives you the chance to be creative?!

I thought pair these items with an oversized black top and i’d put my hair in bunches, keep my makeup simple and wear my signature hoop earrings with my long cross chain. A simple yet flashy look all at the same time lol. As I said before I don’t think you can go wrong with shinny things lol. Maybe next i’ll add a pop of colour to switch things up a little. Stay tuned, who knows I may include this one in another outfit on the blog one day!

Baby Blue Dreams

The main thing I love about this time of year besides the warm sunshine is colour! For months we have had mostly dark and dreary colours present in our winter wardrobes. I don’t know about everyone else but nothing makes me feel better than wearing something bright and fun and when it comes to shopping, there’s nothing I like more than a bargain! It’s no secret that I’m obsessed with the colour blue in all shades and so I’ll be 100% honest here, when I saw that Hanna had purchased this amazing baby blue duster coat from Primark for just £3 it was my mission to see if I could get my hands on one!

What I love about this jacket besides the gorgeous pale blue colour is the fit! The sizing of this one if very generous and whilst I tried on Hanna’s size 16 version of the coat I decided to buy this one in a 20 to give myself plenty of arm room and to give this one an oversized feel. Most duster jackets/coats don’t have any fastenings, this one has buttons at the front to provide closure of the garment and there are usable pockets on each side!

A few days before I bought this coat I took my mum on a shopping trip and as soon as I saw these t-bar buckle wedges in blue I HAD to have them! Available from New Look in wide fit these feel amazing on! I love the comfort of wedges. Not only do they elongate your legs the way that heels do, you can wear these for hours on end without having to worry about pain at the balls of your feet. When you wear heeled shoes the larger the heel the less pain you will get as your body weight is properly supported which makes the footwear more comfortable.

I knew I wanted to keep the overall look really bright and fresh and so I pulled out a pair of stonewash jeggings from Simplybe and my oversized cold shoulder t-shirt dress from Boohoo. I should note that both of these items are from previous collections. Those of you who are familiar with my blog will know that I always buy new items with the idea of making them work with current ones in my wardrobe. We are still in that weird phase weather-wise when it’s too warm to be wearing thick items and scarves but still too cold to totally ditch the jackets and coats I wanted to be on trend with bright pastel shades but still covered enough to feel comfortable.

I wanted to wear very few accessories. I decided to wear a simple metallic heart necklace and of course my hoop earrings. True to my current look (and as  measure to hide my current hair problems) I opted for a blue bandana.

When it comes to putting together an outfit I usually find a staple theme and work around that. I might be focused on a colour or trend. I tend to pick a single item and build on that, in this case the jacket was my first selected item and I knew I wanted a casual and fun look with blues to work with it.

Have fun with your options and try out items in a series of looks to create more than one outfit. We’re all on a budget of some kind so see what you can do with what you have and hunt around for those bargains when you hit the high street!

Golden Delicious!

I used to be scared of wearing clothes that glistened and sparkled. I think it comes down to that ever long list of rules that we plus size people are supposed adhere to when dressing ourselves. The thing is it feels good to wear something pretty that blings and that’s how I feel about this gorgeous Gold Baroque Peplum Top from Pink Clove. I think it’s always a good idea to have something in the wardrobe that be worn both casually and dressy and this item most definitely can feature well in the two styles.

I really like the way that this top feels against the skin, the soft velvety texture makes this one a good choice for pretty much any season. I know that I will be wearing this one in the colder months too and quite possibly on a night out for drinks with friends or something. I have this one in a size 24 which gives me more than enough boob room and it doesn’t cling to my upper arms either (which is always a plus point!). There is a fair amount of stretch in this one but depending on your dimensions you may want to up or downsize if you have a slightly larger bust or belly. I didn’t want to have to wear any shapewear or anything with this one and as the material has that sheen to it I thought it best to go a little looser on the fit.

I was aiming for a sleek and casual look when I put this outfit together so I decided to pair this top with a simple pair of dark washed Demin Jeggings from Yours Clothing. For me it’s important not to compromise on comfort when I pick my outfits so I like things to often be a little loose in areas especially in the bum and tummy areas. I am wearing a size 26 which is a size up for me when it comes to yours leggings. I think a bigger size can often look better with clothes that either have a thick or elasticated waist band that sits at the waist, as they don’t cling to the unwanted areas which can result in bulging.

I thought I would keep it simple when it came to completing the look so I pulled out a classic pair of black heels, my trusted twisted gold hoop earrings and my lovely necklace. Sometimes your clothes are statement pieces that will be the focal point to an outfit and I found that the Pink Clove Peplum top is one of those items so I thought it best to keep everything else simple.
