Introducing Polly Grace!

It’s always exciting when a new plus size brand hits the market! Recently I was contacted by Polly Grace, a brand ranging in sizes 16-32 with a fun and fresh selection of clothes. They let me select a few items to review and thought it would be cool to see how I might style them. The first thing I saw on the site that caught my eye was the Stella Dress. What I liked was the bold print, I really love the mix of white and blue with swirls of chocolate brown. I’m wearing this in a size 24 and I have to say it’s pretty generous in size. I usually like to wear dresses that are slightly big to accommodate my behind and my bust. I found there to be a decent amount of room in this dress and a size 22 would have been a really nice fit for more of a bodycon fit to have been achieved. I really like the detail in the front which gives the dress a wrap illusion.

The jersey fabric is really light and airy with a soft feel. This dress is a really nice option for spring and summer and would look really nice seriously glammed up. I wanted to go for a casual look with this one due to the nature of the fit. I paired this with a simple pair of black leggings and my platform wedged sandals from Yours Clothing. Now as many of you know blue is my favourite colour, I talk about it a lot and every time I see an item of clothing in any sea tone it simply has to be mine lol. The gorgeous Savannah cardigan was a must have because of the rich colbalt colour. The waterfall draping in the front is a really flattering detail for women of all shapes and can be added to both causal and sophisticated styles. I’m wearing this in a 22/24 and I really like the way it fits with plenty of room in the arms and in the main body of the garment.

I’ll be totally honest I’m having a really bad relationship with my hair at the moment. No matter what I do with it I’m finding it hard to maintain at the moment so my very frequent use of bandanas and hair scarves is because of this. As the print of the dress is quite loud I wanted to go for something really simple so I opted for my white mesh hair scarf. Combining this with my signature hoop earrings gave me a finished look that I really liked. A casual look with slight gypsy flair.

No matter what you wear there is always a way you can pull more than one look out of it. There are so many ways that you can make a casual item more glamorous and vice versa. Next time I wear this dress I may well pair it with some heels, heavier makeup and I may wear my hair down. More jewellery would also be a way to glam up this look. You can always pull from a single colour with your outfits and use that when selecting your accessories, nail polish or makeup.

There’s many more interesting and fun items available from Polly Grace and I’ll be sharing some more of them with you in future posts. Check out their website to see the full collection, when you make your purchase be sure to use my exclusive code: Mayah20 for a discount, also for a limited time in May the shipping is absolutely free!

It’s All Yours! A Yours Clothing Review

Hey everyone, today’s post is a little different to my usual outfit reviews. Hanna and I were contacted by Yours Clothing and was offered the chance to do a collaborative post. Blogging can be quite a solitary thing to do and when I first started out I was doing pretty much everything on my own, my mum was taking my outfit pictures and I didn’t know that many bloggers closely. Hanna and I had met a couple of times, but it was at an event that we realised that we are neighbours! We have since been taking each other’s outfit pictures and have become really close friends. I have to say it’s so much fun having a close friend and fellow blogger just around the corner. She was a huge inspiration to me before we met so getting to know her so well over the past year has been a lot of fun and such a pleasure, I love this girl!

When it comes to style our weekly photo sessions have become a lot of fun and we usually finish up over a coffee and loads of laughs. It’s always fortunate when a good friend of yours is around the corner, you never know when you might wanna have a quick natter and as we are really similar in dress size we’ve been able to borrow the odd item of clothing from each other here and there. For me I’ve never had the luxury before, seeing as I’m the only plus size girl out of my old friends.

We quickly became familiar with each others sense of style, angles and poses and she is one of the few people I 100% trust when it comes to my style. Some of you may have seen some previous posts I have written where I have worn outfits she has styled on me. This time around we were posing together with the help of Hanna’s tripod and I really love how the pics came out. When it came to selecting our outfits I wanted something that would show off my personal style. My aim was to select something a little different that would also compliment Hanna’s chosen outfit. We both ended up with acid wash jeans and sandals but my look is a little more dressy in it’s overall style.

As some of you know I have a thing for Monochrome outfits and that’s exactly what I was going for here. Even though we’re now in the spring, there are some really great options out there for people who maybe want to keep things simple and add a splash of colour. In my case I wanted to add a little sassiness whilst keeping the shaded colours as the main focus. I selected the black and white sleeveless top with aysemtric hem, size 22-24. I have to say the cut and fit of this top is amazing and provides loads of room for boobs and your stomach area.

The dark grey acid wash super stretch skinny jeans were a must for me. In truth I had never tried a pair of acid wash jeans before and these were great for my first pair. I’m wearing these in a 26 but a 24 would have been fine also. I always like to wear my jeans slightly too big so that I have plenty of room for my extra lumps and bumps. I find that if you wear jeans a little larger they are more flattering to your shape.

Even though the sun is starting to shine brightly at the moment I still like that additional coverage to combat the chill that hangs in the air. I developed a love of longline cardigans a while ago. This black knitted cardigan with ladder stitch and fringing is so nice to wear. Despite the style it is really warm and adds a little to a style of clothing that would otherwise be very simple. Even though I have reams of confidence I, like many other women have those areas that I am not exactly in love with! The 3 quarter length sleeves cover the tops of my arms nicely which for me has ALWAYS been my problem area. I’m wearing this one in a size 22-24.

I like my footwear to be simple and stylish and these gladiator sling back sandals caught my eye as soon as I saw them. Unfortunately the fit of them wasn’t great on me and my feet kept sliding in them. The good news is after Hanna and I finished taking these pictures we of course tried on each other’s outfits and we ended up swapping sandals. For more detail on Hanna’s chosen outfit, be sure to head over to her blog for links.

When it came to my choice of accessories I wanted to bring a little of my music taste into the mix. I’m sure those of you who read my blog from time to time will be aware that I am a huge Michael Jackson fan! It’s not often that I can incorporate elements on his style into my own but when I get the chance I take it! I have had my white Fedora hat since I was 21! I don’t wear it often as there’s not many outfits I can include it with. I wanted that “Smooth Criminal” edge so in keeping with my usual style I added a black and white bandana underneath. Top this off with my MJ pendant and signature hoop earrings and my look was complete.

You know what I always say, have fun with your look play around and wear what makes you feel amazing! I had a lot of fun putting this look together and working on this post with Hanna and I hope we get the chance to collaborate this way again in the future. It’s always fun playing dress up with your friends and for me this was most definitely one of those times!

If you like these outfits and want to see what else is available from the new collection by Yours Clothing check out the website. Also Hanna has an amazing discount code which takes £10 off all orders starting from £20 with code BLOGGER21 (unfortunately this excludes all sale items and only works for newly registered email addresses).

Autumn Fun! – An FD Avenue Review

We all have those days when we want to have a fun look that’s comfortable, looks cute and suits the weather. Sometimes getting a look that fits all three requirements can be a real challenge, especially when you live in London and have to endure regular random changes in the weather. I have to admit I’m not a fan of that awkward time period when the seasons are in that transitional period. It can be hard to know whether you are coming or going and the tough part is to endure all of that in the right clothes!

I really believe that if you feel good in the what you’re wearing a lot of the other stuff will just fall into place. If you feel good then the awkward and sometimes tough stuff can be that little bit easier to cope with.

A couple of weeks ago I was rummaging through my wardrobe looking for something with a hint of colour to wear that would be warm enough in the crisp autumn air but still be fun to wear on a weekend afternoon in London.

Currently there are a lot of fun and funky statement t-shirts on the market many of which include a cute anecdote about selfies or some other social media jargon. I think it’s cool that fashion is in keeping with many of the current online statements and trends; making items fun and enjoyable to wear.

When I saw this cute tee from Primark with a style that tips it’s hat to some of the high fashion brands such as Chanel, I thought it would be a cute addition to my wardrobe.

In truth I have had this tee for a few months now and I hadn’t quite gotten around to wearing it until I received this boyfriend cardigan from FD Avenue. The mustard colour was perfect against the gold tones in the tee and is just the right shade for the autumn season whilst still having some of that summer brightness some of us wish was still here.

I have many boyfriend cardigans in a variety of colours as they work well with many items and can be that simple burst of colour you want in an outfit. This one from FD Avenue is a comfortable and sleek item with cute pockets on either side. If you want light and simple coverage that adds that little bit of extra warmth this is a really nice option.

I decided that other than the cardigan and tee combo I would keep everything else really simply with just black and white options. I combined these items with my black pleather skirt from Simplybe, black tights from Primark and my go to black heels. I absolutely love this skirt and it tends to go with pretty much everything I match it with, which is a bonus!

What I like about these items is that all of them can be put together with different outfits.

Versatile items always go well in my wardrobe as I’m a big fan of buying separates. I like the possibilities you get with individual items and the fact that they can work well within a number of different looks.

I have a pretty big love for shoulder bags and satchels and when I saw this houndstooth print it just had to be mine! The classic print which is readily available pretty much everywhere and on everything at the moment, was more than welcome to work it’s way into my closet. As a lover of both vintage and modern styles I find that anything with this print attached can usually work across the two styles and compliment any outfit perfectly.

Have a play around this season with your style you never know what might just work for you!

*The Cardigan was gifted from FD Avenue.

Tutti Frutti – Bright And Bold

When I think of spring and summer the idea of lounging on a beach sipping on a cocktail by a palm tree is most definitely a tempting thought. With the hot weather comes the need for clothes that not only feel great but work well in the sunshine.

When I saw the new Cut Range by Evans I was surprised at how fresh, funky and diverse the brand had decided to go! When we think of Evans we tend to think of comfortable, high quality clothes that can be used as staple pieces. In the past couple of years they have branched out and played with a series of different looks. The Beth Ditto range was an amazing collection and more recently the items from Scarlett & Jo have most definitely been turning heads…

The Cut Range had the Plus Community all over the UK talking. Shoppers, bloggers and fashionistas all over had their opinion on the bright and fresh colour options, interesting styles and edgy cuts. There was one item that caught my eye out of the entire collection, The Pink And Green Midi Tube Skirt! As soon as I saw this one I knew that I would want to wear this out in the hot sunshine with some white and pink additions to form a fun and fresh ensemble.

I decide to pair this item with my white Dolores top from Collectif (a favourite of mine as some of you already know), Pink Cardian from the Claire Richards collection at Fashionworld and White flats from Primark. I decided to go really girly with this one and the mix of colours in the skirt made me think of the tutti frutti sweets I used to have when I was small. The bright and fun colours are ones that have the potential to be played around with in many ways. The interesting Ti-dye effect is what caught my eye and if you have any of the Cut items with this print you may play around with the colours in other ways. Cute Camisole tops in yellow, green or white would really bring out the different tones in the skirt.
I just love how bold the colours are and I know that on a hot and bright day this outfit will really work in the sunshine. I already have plans to take this one on holiday with me! Accessories can be played with easily. Acrylic jewellery in all the colours, silver additions like earrings and fun hair flowers would look cute also.
If you were bold enough to try out the cut range I would love to see your pictures too so please drop me a message with your outfit selection, I would love to see how you played with the style!

Fashion World Red Carpet Challenge!

Every woman likes to look her best and when it comes to red carpet looks we take no exception! When Fashion World reached out to me and asked me to take part in a recent blogger challenge I jumped at the chance!

The challenge was to select a dress and shrug that you would like to wear on the red carpet. With a careful selection to chose from I knew I wanted something from the Claire Richards collection!
As we’ve had such a long and drab winter my selection was something bright and colourful.
I absolutely fell in love with the Prom dress in the collection as it has a look that lends itself to the vintage style that I absolutely adore! This dress made me feel so feminine and dainty and the beautiful flowers that accent the garment add that touch of sunshine that we’ve been missing at the moment. With the Grammys, Brits, Baftas and Several other award shows that have taken place recently I got to thinking about how I would wear this gorgeous number.
I love the sweetheart neckline of the dress and it hugs in all the right places. A snug fit around the bust and waist and a gentle flare over the hips gives such a comfortable fit. I decided to add pearl bracelets and white hair roses to add to that girly but elegant feel. If I had decided to wear my hair down I would have worn a cluster of hair flowers to add that little something extra.

If I were to wear this dress without the pink cardigan from the Claire Richards collection I may have paired this one with a pink cinch belt and maybe some white heels.
My usual thing to do when it comes to such a colourful number is to wear black heels with a black clutch bag just to add that little touch of sophistication to an otherwise really fun piece.
I find that many women decide to dress in a way that can sometimes be older than their age when it comes to red carpet looks. As I’m still in my mid twenties I wanted to go with something more fun and fresh that would lend itself to the current trend of pastels and flowers.
There are so many gorgeous dresses in the current collection by Claire Richards that you are simply spoilt for choice!
Doesn’t she look fabulous in this one?
