Take It To The Maxi! – A Boohoo Plus Review

So we’re deep into July which means we should be in the thick of summer! Unfortunately London has had some really random weather and we’ve had more chilly days than hot ones. The good news is when it is hot and the sun is beaming in London everyone finds themselves wearing their summer best and enjoying the day out and about with friends.

Recently when shopping at Boohoo I was on the hunt for a light and airy dress to wear for those hot days. You all know I love to glam up but sometimes I just like to be comfortable and casual. The thing is everyone needs to own a plain black maxi dress so when I saw the Leah Race Back Maxi I knew I had to get it! I picked this dress in a size 24 and I have to say I love wearing it! It is so light and so comfortable that it’s perfect for one of those really humid days when you just want relief from the heat! I should note because of the size of my breasts when I wear this one my bra is slightly exposed at the sides.

Like many plus size women out there my problem area with my body is my arms. I used to feel so uncomfortable with my arms exposed and would brace the hot sun with jackets and cardigans on even if the heat was Sweltering and sticky! Last year I went out totally jacket-less for the first time and it’s this year that my aim is to keep pushing myself in that area. Due to the fact that I wanted to push my confidence and and have my arms bare a solution to the fact that the dress pulls a little in the chest for me was to wear a cropped, sleeveless denim jacket. I bought mine last year in Primark for a bargain!

When the sun is beaming down on you, the last thing you want is to be laden down with accessories! I decided to only wear my signature hoop earrings and hair scarf. Finishing off with a small pop of blue with my t-bar wedges from New Look my outfit was complete.

Hanna is the lipstick queen she has pretty much every shade known to man and sat me down one day to try out all the colours and see what sort of tones look nice against my complexion. Picking out a summer bright baby pink shade, she said she thought the Nikki Minaj style tone looked cool on me. I thought it would be fun to try the shade again and so here you have it, me with supper girly pink lippy!

Dressing comfortably doesn’t have to mean losing you sense of style so have fun in other ways with your makeup and hair accessories if you want to keep things simple in the summer heat!

Remember whatever you wear, feel fabulous in it and wear it with a smile!

With Flying Colours!

One thing I love, Colour! Colour to me can really impact on a persons sense of mood and it can definitely give a certain style or theme to your wardrobe! A trend that has been quite popular recently is paint! Splashed paint to be exact! It would seem that abstract swirls and patterns aren’t just limited to bright canvases that sit in art galleries, we can wear them right out there on our streets! I have seen a whole host of interesting colours splashed across women’s clothing everywhere and I have had my eye open for something of my own for quite some time!

Hanna and I went to a Boohoo press event at some time last year and they had loads of upcoming items with paint splattered patterns arriving in the upcoming collection (some of you may remember some of the pics I posted on my Instagram whilst at the event). Whilst having a browse on the website I came across a really fun and BOLD shift dress. The Taylor printed shift dress fits my frame like a bodycon but to be honest with you, that’s one of the things I love most about it! I’m wearing this is a size 24 and I have to say I really like how it looks on. I will admit when I first took this out of the packaging and tried it on I thought ‘Wow I look colourful!’ Not so long ago I would have been totally pushed out my comfort zone by this prospect but I actually love how this looks.

I should note I’m not wearing any shapewear in these pictures, the bright paint print I find actually looks quite flattering against my shape. In a viscose, elastane mix the fabric feels like a soft t-shirt on. As an item that’s really light to wear, this would be really comfortable in a bar or club atmosphere. The long sleeves are really comfortable with plenty of stretch and would be a really comfortable item to wear for ladies who don’t like to show the tops of their arms. Due to the fact that I have a large bust and big behind this dress hitches up a little on me I wear this with leggings as the length is slightly shortened because of this.

I thought I would work with the colours of the dress and so I thought my red patent ballerina pumps from Primark would work well for comfortable footwear. I think a pair of stiletto heels would work in any of the colours featured on the dress if you wanted to slightly glam this up a little. For accessories I kept it simple wearing this Feather necklace from Topshop and my classic hoop earrings.

Don’t be afraid of colour, have fun with it and enjoy being bold! We all need to have those fun items in our wardrobes that makes us want to be colourful and vibrant.

Remember whatever you wear, feel fabulous in it and wear it with a smile!

Baby Blue Dreams

The main thing I love about this time of year besides the warm sunshine is colour! For months we have had mostly dark and dreary colours present in our winter wardrobes. I don’t know about everyone else but nothing makes me feel better than wearing something bright and fun and when it comes to shopping, there’s nothing I like more than a bargain! It’s no secret that I’m obsessed with the colour blue in all shades and so I’ll be 100% honest here, when I saw that Hanna had purchased this amazing baby blue duster coat from Primark for just £3 it was my mission to see if I could get my hands on one!

What I love about this jacket besides the gorgeous pale blue colour is the fit! The sizing of this one if very generous and whilst I tried on Hanna’s size 16 version of the coat I decided to buy this one in a 20 to give myself plenty of arm room and to give this one an oversized feel. Most duster jackets/coats don’t have any fastenings, this one has buttons at the front to provide closure of the garment and there are usable pockets on each side!

A few days before I bought this coat I took my mum on a shopping trip and as soon as I saw these t-bar buckle wedges in blue I HAD to have them! Available from New Look in wide fit these feel amazing on! I love the comfort of wedges. Not only do they elongate your legs the way that heels do, you can wear these for hours on end without having to worry about pain at the balls of your feet. When you wear heeled shoes the larger the heel the less pain you will get as your body weight is properly supported which makes the footwear more comfortable.

I knew I wanted to keep the overall look really bright and fresh and so I pulled out a pair of stonewash jeggings from Simplybe and my oversized cold shoulder t-shirt dress from Boohoo. I should note that both of these items are from previous collections. Those of you who are familiar with my blog will know that I always buy new items with the idea of making them work with current ones in my wardrobe. We are still in that weird phase weather-wise when it’s too warm to be wearing thick items and scarves but still too cold to totally ditch the jackets and coats I wanted to be on trend with bright pastel shades but still covered enough to feel comfortable.

I wanted to wear very few accessories. I decided to wear a simple metallic heart necklace and of course my hoop earrings. True to my current look (and as  measure to hide my current hair problems) I opted for a blue bandana.

When it comes to putting together an outfit I usually find a staple theme and work around that. I might be focused on a colour or trend. I tend to pick a single item and build on that, in this case the jacket was my first selected item and I knew I wanted a casual and fun look with blues to work with it.

Have fun with your options and try out items in a series of looks to create more than one outfit. We’re all on a budget of some kind so see what you can do with what you have and hunt around for those bargains when you hit the high street!

Remember whatever you wear, feel fabulous in it and wear it with a smile!

Nadia Aboulhosn Boohoo Capsule Collection Reviewed!

*This Dress Is A Gifted Item

It’s a great time to be a plus size woman who loves fashion and beauty. We are seeing so many different things being created with us in mind and we are now able to wear clothing of pretty much any style. Growing up in London as a big girl was always awkward. The only options we had for stylish trends was through expensive catalogues and what was on the high street really didn’t leave much to be desired. Now with the internet we can pick up amazing items at bargain prices from pretty much anywhere in the world! With the rise in options, girls like myself have really embraced the choices that we have and many of us have started blogging. What gave me the idea to crate a blog was the fact that I was constantly being asked by people where I was picking up my clothes. I figured I could put it out there on the blog in an effort to help women of similar size and get to know a few people in the process.

As a blogger you get to see a lot of familiar faces not only through the social media channels but at events and functions. One blogger in particular who has made quite a name for herself and has earned reams of followers is none other than Nadia Aboulhosn. The New York city blogger has not only wowed women everywhere with her sense of style, her lifestyle posts have also generated a lot of interest. One of the most referenced fashion brands Boohoo recently teamed up with Nadia to create a fresh and funky capsule collection of clothes. With items ranging from sizes 16-24 and a variety of sexy styles that encapsulate Nadia’s personality, it’s no wonder everyone’s raving about the collection!

When I first saw the range I was really impressed with how edgy it was. Often brands shy away from funky, sexy and sassy items for us plus size women. Admittedly there is a lot of items that I love but don’t think I could pull off due to my proportions but I know they will look hot on many of you. Here I am pictured wearing the embossed sleeve dress, size 24. When I first tried this on I really liked the fabric; 95% polyester and 5% elastane this dress is really smooth on the skin, soft to the touch and has a really nice amount of stretch. As I have really large breasts and a big behind this dress hitches up a little on me and so I felt it was too short to wear on it’s own.

I decided to create a sports luxe sort of look by pairing the dress with my black and white gingham leggings. Despite always hearing that white makes you look bigger and should be avoided as a big girl I really love this outfit. Those of you who are familiar with my blog will know that I’m all for breaking the rules that society have given us when it comes to how we should dress.

The long sleeves make this a really versatile item suitable for several seasons and they have a faint and interesting pattern right the way down to the cuffs. If worn on it’s own, the length allows you to really showcase your legs and some cute heels would really set it off. As you can see I opted for a more casual style.

I really like the side zip detail at the hem of the dress, not only is this a cool style feature I think that if worn as a singular item this could add a little extra sexiness to the garment and could allow some extra thigh to be showcased. I also think it could come in handy for women with a larger behind or stomach because you could give yourself a little more space in the mid section by having the zips open.

When putting this outfit together my idea was to keep things bright and fresh for the season with only a slight touch of colour. I love how white looks against my complexion as the golden tones in my skin stand out more. I thought that these canvas boots would give me some additional height and pull the overall look together. These were from New Look but you can pick up a similar pair here.

I’ll be honest I am having major hair issues these days which is why you guys have seen a lot of hats and hair scarves on the blog recently. Seeing as I have a rather large collection of bandanas this white one with paisley print was a must for me!

I have a large collection of tote bags that seems to keep expanding lol. Me being such a body confidence activist and a lover of fun slogans led me to select this cute bag from Zizzi. For a small splash of colour I wore my pink diamonte lightning bolt necklace that I’ve had for about a hundred years. Hanna being a huge lipstick lover has been encouraging me to try more shades and so it was fortunate for me that I happen to have a magenta lipstick that’s the exact same shade as my pendant.

There are some really great lines available from Nadia’s capsule collection. Be sure to head on over to Boohoo to see it in it’s entirety. You know what I say, have fun with your style, wear what you want, not what people tell you to wear. Fashion is meant to be about expression and style not conforming to someone else’s ideals.

Remember whatever you wear, feel fabulous in it and wear it with a smile!
