Crochet To The Maxi!

A plus size woman smiling in a summer maxi dress, wearing crochet braids and sunglasses

When it comes to the summertime there are many things to look forward to.  Some of us make plans to travel and catch some sun, others decide to stay home and enjoy those surroundings. This past month I turned 30 and the big occasion was taking place in Las Vegas! The last time I was in the USA, I was on the west coast, LA to be exact. Some of my best friends had visited sin city before and so, they made sure to warn me of the extreme desert heat!

In preparation for a summer holiday we all tend to stock up on new clothes for the big trip. In my case I wanted to be fashionable and comfortable in the sunshine. Of course my birthday falls right in the middle of July, typically the hottest time of the year in Vegas with temperatures reaching up to 50 degrees. I had a lot to consider wardrobe-wise. The aim was to have a selection of summertime options that would be comfortable, easy to wear and fat friendly! Each summer there is one item that all women tend to look for and this is of course is a maxi dress.

When I saw this low cut tie-dye number from Junarose (also available at Simply Be) it was something that I really wanted to try. The splashes of blue and white would compliment many other items in my closet. I already knew that I could add my own style and flair to such an item. I tried this dress in both sizes 24 and 26; eventually opting for the 26. The V shape lines sat too high against my large bust in a 24 and so I decided to go one size bigger. We all like to explore when we go on our travels and so I thought it would be best to pair the dress with a simple pair of trainers. Las Vegas is a city built in the desert, with this in mind it was important to include a bag.

My white backpack was to help in carrying water bottles and other essentials. Aiming to protect my eyes from the bright sunshine, I borrowed Hanna’s Polaroid sunnies. Wearing this outfit I felt like a 1970s, disco diva. I really enjoyed wearing this look and found it to be extremely light and airy. The deep V cut, allowed for quite a helping of cleavage, which is fine with me lol. With my arms uncovered and exposed, it took a little added confidence to wear this one but I enjoyed myself and felt really great.

My amazing friend Venice had installed some crochet curls into my hair the very day before these photos were taken. The plan was to have a heat protective style for my hair that would be easy to manage. Many women with natural afro hair are conscious of protecting their hair from extreme heat and UV rays. Unfortunately I have found that no amount of oiling my hair has prevented it from drying out in the sunshine. I wanted a stress free, time-saving style and thought that curls would be a nice way to go. Interestingly enough, human hair is usually the chosen option when wearing extensions. Crochet braid wearers tend to go for synthetic styles instead. Of course this is helps when it comes to the price tag and can save one hundreds of pounds! I selected the Freetress GOGO curl, colour 1B.

I always select colour 1B when wearing extensions as this matches my natural shade. If I were to wear a weave or a wig, Brazilian or Peruvian hair would be my texture of choice. I have become a huge fan of crochet braids as they are such an easy style to wear and extremely lightweight. They come in a variety of curl and twist patterns and only take a short amount of time to install. Venice more than hooked me up! I thought it would be cool to include my navy bandana with this outfit to compliment the shades in the maxi-dress.

The sunshine is still here so i’m hoping that I will get a little more wear out of my summer clothing this season! I may have big hair, loud dresses and bold prints in my wardrobe but, I plan on experimenting. I find that you can surprise yourself when you just take a chance with your look!

Tie Die Magic – A Yours Clothing Review

*Hoodie And Joggers Are Gifted Items

I love how different types of clothing can bring out other sides to your personality. Colours, prints, fabrics and cuts have a way of either enhancing or changing your mood and with that being said you can use clothing to force a mood sometimes. I own very little active wear, sweats and lounge-wear; something I definitely have to change! When I first saw the gorgeous peach coloured tie dye outfit from Yours Clothing I knew it was something I wanted to try but wasn’t sure I would be able to pull off…

I really love the colour and thought it would look really subtle against my caramel skin tone. My initial idea was that this would make for an edgy, girly, stylish yet comfortable outfit. I hate to say but I have always stayed away from items like this for fear of them making me look frumpy or poorly shaped, boy was I wrong! I really like how easy to wear this outfit is. The joggers were super comfy and were the perfect length for my 5’5 frame and they sit slightly high waisted which is always a bonus in my book. The elasticated waist with thick band are really light against the stmoach area and don’t pull or pinch in any way.

The hoodie is described as cold shouldered but as you can see by my the photos the entire upper arm is exposed, a detail I really liked about it. I found that even on a breezy day (which it was when I took these photos) I was really comfortable and didn’t feel the chill in the air. This one stopped just below my stomach area but would sit lower on women with a slightly smaller bust. I really like the hood detail but, with my hair as big as it is currently it’s not something I tried to put on lol. I’m wearing both of these items in a size 24.

As girly as the colouring is for this sweat suit, it made me feel pretty fierce and full of attitude. Some clothes really pull out the inner urban R&B chick in me and this outfit most definitely does that! I’m not sure if it’s the cut arms or the the all over tie dye but I really enjoy wearing this one. I decided to pair this with a simple pair of trainers from New Look and no accessories other than my signature hoop earrings. I find that with some looks less is definitely more and the bright bold colour and stylish hoodie were more than enough for the look I wanted to achieve.

Even though this outfit did bring out the inner diva in me, I also felt incredibly cute and girly wearing it. When I first put it on and completed my makeup I thought I’m gonna put my hair in two big puffy pigtails. I’m loving my curly crochet braids at the moment and find that they are an incredible protective style for my natural locks. I was recently in Las Vegas and so I needed protection from the desert heat!

So this is a lesson I have taught myself, when it comes to clothing and what you think will or won’t suit you, don’t be so sure of what you think you know! Try things out, play around and have fun with the different ways you can style an outfit up or down. Clothing is more than just something you wear! We have all heard the saying “fashion is a form of expression” and this is true! The clothes you wear can make you look and feel amazing so take some risks, you may be pleased with the results!

Thea Jungle Queen

Dress Is A Gifted Item*

It’s funny how you can see an item of clothing and it can look totally different on you compared to someone else. I was recently at a fashion event with Navabi and Studio 8 and like all other fashion events, there are usually stands full of clothes everywhere and sometimes the opportunity to try them on for yourself. I’ve never been a huge wearer of the colour green. I don’t have much of it in my wardrobe, in fact I would go as far as to say I have maybe 3-4 items in total! The thing is though I simply had to try on the Thea dress from Studio 8!

I’m not really sure why green is a colour I don’t gravitate towards because I always enjoy wearing it and I enjoy how it looks against my complexion. I really like this dress as I think it’s a great multipurpose item. I found it a really comfortable wear on the day that I took these photos. In the hot summer sun it was a really nice item and not uncomfortable in the heat even though it’s lined. I also think this would be a great dress to wear to work and/or out for the evening. The thick shoulders allow for a comfortable and modest fit which works with most bra styles. The triangular modesty panel in the front is really nice if you want something with less cleavage exposed. The hem sits just across the tops of my calves and is a really nice cut for my 5’5 frame.

I decided to wear this one with a simple pair of cork wedges and a black handbag. Everyone who knows me knows that coordination is my thing and is something I always do with my outfits, colour coordination that is. I guess it’s a Caribbean trait that is well and truly in my DNA lol. I thought it would be cool to pick out colours and tones within the dress and select the rest of outfit around them. Despite not owning a lot of green items I have bandanas and hair scarves in most colours so I dug out my green bandana and thought it would make a nice addition to the outfit. Combined with my signature hoop earrings and my  Ted Baker Belle Tortoiseshell glasses I was more than ready for a hot summer day.

Don’t limit your fashion choices when it comes to cuts, colours or even fabrics you’ll be surprised with some of the things that not only look and feel great on but; how they make you feel when wearing them. I like to dress to my mood and so I have all manner of clothes in my wardrobe! I look forward to selecting more items from Studio 8 in the future as I had only included some of their accessories in my collection previously. Check out their website to see some of the newest selections they have available.

One Step From The Sun

*This Is A Gifted Outfit

Hey everyone, I hope you’re enjoying the autumn season and getting into the festivities that are taking place out there. I personally like to spend as much time as I can playing around in the leaves, enjoying the amazing food and of course the fashion! At the moment I’m going through an experimental phase when it comes to my look. I still have those elements that will always creep into my outfits but recently I have been trying to get the most out of the bright days as possible, especially seeing as it gets pitch dark before 5pm! I have been lucky though, there have been some great options out there both on the high street and online.

The UK’s longest running fashion brand to cater to curvy girls is of course Evans. I have been shopping there for as long as I can remember and I have to say their options have expanded so much over the years! They have been collaborating with a series of brands, new and innovative designers and at expanding their collections with each season. Just a few days ago I was at the SS17 press event by Arcadia and there are some incredible new lines coming next year. Top Shop in addition to their amazing clothes have an incredible new makeup range, Dotty P are playing around with a series of beautiful feminine styles (there is a silver pair of stilettos I must have) and of course Evans are bringing us fabulous denim, funky florals, dainty lace items and a series of botanical prints.

Recently I was given the opportunity to pull some looks from their current collection and I have to say it took me an age to make my picks as the options were just endless! There was something for everyone with a strong and large range of sparkly and dazzling threads for the upcoming party season. I will be sharing many of these items with you right here on the blog in the very near future, but to start with I went with some items that can be adapted into a series of both casual and dressy looks. Hanna and I decided to go to lunch on a Sunday afternoon and of course took full advantage of the warm sunshine. I was wearing this incredible Black Animal Print Shirt Dress from Live Unlimited. The oversized shirt dress has hanky hem detail and a long fitted cami underneath. This is one that could easily be worn open as a duster jacket or worn as more of a floaty dress i’m wearing this in a size 22. I decided to put it with a pair of the Ultra Stretch Skinny Jeans, size 24 (a must have item) and I was almost set. I really like the length of this one and the loose feel and have found this can also transition into a more sophisticated outfit perfect for the work environment.

There are only a few days left where we can pull out sunnies and incorporate them into our outfits. I am a huge aviator fan and I have probably around 6 or 7 pairs! I won’t lie, ever since I saw Michael Jackson rock these as a kid I have been obsessed with them so when Ray-Ban brought out a pair of gorgeous mirrored shades in a series of colours I wanted a pair! The blue ones of course were the colour I fell in love with and I was lucky to have been given this amazing pair on my birthday by Hanna and Sarah. My hair has been in small tight twists for a couple of days so my curls were extremely tight and small, making my hair look slightly shorter, what better excuse does a girl need to show off her favourite pair! I also love that the blue tints bring out some of the blue undertones in the shirt dress.

I’m proud to say that my shoe collection is starting to grow and take some shape. I have to admit I put a lot less attention to my footwear than I do my clothes but recently I have found myself drawn to some really fun and interesting footwear. I like to feel comfortable when I’m out and about so this amazing pair of woven slip on sneakers from Lane Bryant were my shoes of choice.  A really bouncy and fun shoe that made for a great casual feel.

A simple long chain, my hoop earrings with some basic makeup and I was ready and set for my day. I like to be playful in my style and whilst keeping things simple sometimes I still try to wear an outfit with a bit of flair. As the cold starts to creep in i’ll have to play around with some more sweaters and jackets but while the sun still continues to shine I will most definitely include some light and floaty options into my look.

Remember whatever you wear, feel fabulous in it and wear it with a smile!

Paint Pots And Dolores Dolls – A Collectif Review

There isn’t a woman out there who hasn’t seen a dress that she just HAS to have! Admittedly I see gorgeous clothes all the time but it’s not so often that I literally find myself searching the globe for a dress! When I first saw the gorgeous Paint Pot Dolores doll dress from Collectif I could see myself wearing it. I knew exactly how I would style it, exactly where I would wear it and exactly how great I would feel in it! Now anyone who knows me knows that when it comes to vintage swing dresses I’m a little crazy! I have more in my closest than I can literally store, in a series of bright and bold colours and prints and even though some have similarities, they all have a little something special about them.

My ultimate vintage cut is the Dolores Doll from Collectif. I have loads of them now and I don’t plan to stop buying them anytime soon! I say this a lot, when something works for me I stick with it! I’m the girl who would and has bought the same dress upwards of 10 times, simply because the colour is different or there is a slight design tweak. The Dolores Doll for me is the perfect length for my 5’5 frame, the cap sleeves are extremely comfortable and are perfect for covering up the bra straps. I find that these dresses lift and shape my bust in a way that gives the ultimate cleavage and they are just the right cut and shape for an extremely sexy yet modest look.

When I was sent the lookbook for a recent collection by Collectif I was instantly taken by the amazing new lines all in paint pot print! I instantly knew I wanted the girly pink and blue version of the dress. I love wearing all shades of blue as you know and pink is a colour that whilst I enjoy it, I like to pair it with many tones and shades. This dress took a lot of the work out of putting the colours together and for me needs very little with it! Unfortunately for me this dress sold out so fast I was unable to get my hands on one! I literally mean the dress was sold out in size 20 within a matter of days! The spaghetti strap version, the Janie was also totally unavailable! I was crushed. I made it a personal mission a few years ago to treat myself every summer to an incredible vintage dress and the only one I set my sights on was the Dolores Paint Pot dress!

As you can imagine a keen few women out there beat me to the punch as well as some wholesale companies who source some of their vintage goodies from the brand. I scoured the internet hoping for an opportunity to buy a second hand version but of course no one wanted to give up this one! My search led me to a dutch based vintage company Succubus where I snapped up one of the last in my size, spending money I didn’t have at the time and not even caring about the cost lol. As soon as I paid I had my eyes on the tracking website and post every day that followed, lucky for me I got this vintage treasure in record time!

Hanna and I had decided to spend an afternoon in Highgate, the weather was great, sun was shinning and I was in the perfect mood to wear a girly dress! I decided to pair this one with my white Sam’s petticoat from Vivien Of Holloway, Michelle shoes from Hotter and the main outfit was pulled together. In keeping with the idea of white additions I pulled my new denim jacket from Zizzi, recently gifted to me by one of their UK stockist, Navabi. I’m wearing this in a size 22. My new square buckle stretch belt from Lane Bryant was a must with this look. One of my many bandanas, this time in baby pink, my hoop earrings of course and I was set.

I have to say I’m so happy to finally have this dress. I love everything about it and I have to say, this is another one I just have to twirl in!

Remember whatever you wear, feel fabulous in it and wear it with a smile!

In The Summer Sun – A Lane Bryant Review

*This dress was a gifted item

It’s a strange sort of summer this year. Usually there are endless conversations going on with people complaining about the heat, praying for a rain storm and hiding away in the shade. Now I love everything about the summer the sweltering heat, picnics in the park, the bright and beautiful colours everywhere and the excitement for holidays far away by the sea. This year we have had none of that. The conversation has been full of complaints as usual and this time we’re all whinging about the rain, cold days and short bursts of sunshine. Usually I’m in the background listening to what others have to say whilst i’m o the opposite oppinion and on the other side. This year I’m right there with them bitching away because summertime in London has been non existent with the odd hour of two of good weather.

Now when you’re someone who loves wearing a good sun dress and luxuriating in the sun, you make the most of the good days when they are here! Last weekend the sun was shinning, birds were singing and the need for layers was finally gone! I finally got to wear my gorgeous Fit & Flare Sleeveless Dress from Lane Bryant! A few weeks back they sent me some great bits to enjoy for the summer season and I haven’t really been able to wear any of them! I’m wearing this dress in a size 22 in the moderain plaid print. I have to say I love the feel of this one. It’s made out of a super silkly slinky fabric and I have to say it feels light as a feather on. A great option for a beach holiday or summer lunch.

The dress come complete with a zip fastening at the back and additional skinny belt. I was very impressed with the belt as 9 times out of 10 when a belt comes with a dress it has to be discarded due to poor fit. I had plenty of room in this dress and really enjoyed it’s loose fit feeling. Stopping just by the knee made wearing anti charf shorts very comfortable lol. I will say this, I love wearing bright and colourful clothes but I do lack in the orange and yellow department. I love that the print of the dress has splashes of orange, peach, beige, yellow and khaki green in box grids and lines.

Hanna let me borrow her Strappy Wooden heels, also from Lane Bryant and I think they totally complete the look. I was really surprised by how comfortable these shoes are! They are pretty high, really easy to walk in and virtually pain free! The only downside is that my left foot slid forward in the shoe in a little but to be honest I really didn’t care. When you feel good in the sunshine and enjoy those bright summer moments the little things don’t even bother you.

I’m hoping we get to enjoy more of this beautiful weather and I get to wear more summer items! Unfortunately it’s grey and wet as I write this post…

Remember whatever you wear, feel fabulous in it and wear it with a smile!

Girly Girl

There are some things that all women have in common regardless of what their background or personal style is. We have all found ourselves sifting through everything that we own in our wardrobes unsure of what to wear, and we have all woken up with a random need to feel somewhat girly. Now girly for some would be dressing in bright pink with their hair in pigtails and cute makeup. For others it might be wearing a set of lingerie that makes them feel that extra bit feminine. In my case when I feel the need to be girly one thing comes to mind. What sort of skirt am I gonna wear and how big do I want it? I tend to gravitate towards sexy bodycon dresses, vintage swing dresses or tulle skirts.

The sun was shinning bright and strong the other day in London and I knew that I wanted to wear my navy tutu skirt but I had no idea what I should pair with it. The last time I had worn this skirt the weather was a lot cooler and I was able to pair it with a sweater and some nude heels. This time around I wanted to be bright in the summer sunshine but I also wanted a look that would transition well into an evening look. The plan was set I was going to go bare legged and pair the skirt with a cute t-shirt. Now I should note that this particular skirt was from Asos a while back and from their standard range. From what I have seen they no longer stock this one but they do have some similar options here. Last summer Scandinavian brand Zizzi released their summer collection, Wardrobe of wonders. They had some amazing items including some cute school girl inspired items, check out my previous review here. In the collection they had a really cool digital print line featuring midi skirt and crop top tee. I was lucky enough to get the skirt and borrowed the top a few times from Hanna. The good news is that both the top and skirt are still available from uk outlet Navabi.

What I love about plus size fashions now is that there is something for every kind of curvy woman out there. Should you choose urban street styles, vintage classics, current casuals or smart sophisticated evening wear there is something for everyone. I have said many times I like to dress to my mood which I why I like to carry a wide range of clothes in my wardrobe so that I can be ready to attend whatever event or occasion in appropriate items. My personal trick to save space and money is to buy clothes that can be worn in more than one way preferably for a casual and smart look. Of course I have some items that are exclusive to specific occasions but this is why when I pick my separates such as skirts and tops, I tend to go for colours I can easily incorporate into my style. Anyone who knows me personally will know that I try to colour coordinate almost everything I wear. This is something that was ingrained into me as a child and a particular style trait I still practice.

I thought I would wear my pleather biker jacket for additional coverage and to offset the black heels I chose. I opted for my number 1 go to heels my pairs of Michelle shoes from Hotter. A simple black clutch was required, my signature hoop earrings and a pop of red! I chose my new favourite lipgloss, Forgive My Sin from L’Oreal Paris. I tend to keep my makeup the same with pinup style winged eye liner, mascara, my brows of course and a touch of foundation. I play around mostly with my lip colour but it tends to be reds and pinks I gravitate towards the most. Specifically deep reds. I love how they look against my complexion and I find that my teeth looks miles whiter when I wear red which is always a bonus lol.

Every now and again it’s fun to dress up in a way that makes you feel fun, feminine and bright. Sometimes you just have to do what makes you feel good and be mindful that you may draw some attention to yourself which is always good if you’re feeling confident! Have fun with your look and if you haven’t already ladies, try out a tutu or tulle skirt! They are a lot of fun to wear and can make for some great outfits!

Remember whatever you wear, feel fabulous in it and wear it with a smile!

Bringing Colour Into The Winter Wardrobe

It’s no secret that I’m not a fan of the winter. I find that the weather is random and wild but we as people on appearance alone are the total opposite. We drape ourselves in lifeless, boring and uninspiring clothes limited to a variety of dark tones and we tend to replace style with comfort. The start of the year brings with it many changes and this is the time of the month when people are ready to ditch their new years resolutions and continue on with life as they had been. One thing that never changes with me is a need to bring a little colour to the season. I love the rich and warm tones that are around this time of year, deep greens, rich reds, crisp oranges and luscious blues.I get really frustrated at how the cold and dreary weather makes people feel that they shouldn’t wear bright colours though.

I love my black staple pieces and I will always have a large variety of black items in my wardrobe. Monochrome colours tend to work with pretty much anything and everything in the wardrobe so they make for a great staple colour to have. I like to switch things up a little by finding ways to wear some of my favourite items in a way that is comfortable and stylish this season. I recently went out in one of my favourite bodycon dresses from Pink Clove (click here for my review of the item). I have a deep love of panel dresses and this is definitely the brightest one that I own. This time of year it’s important to cover up and the fact that the neckline is above the cleavage is definitely a bonus if you’re wearing this as a casual daytime item. I thought it would look cool to wear this dress with a thick pair of black leggings and my biker jacket.

To finish off I wore my black Shawberry boots, black beret, my black diamonte heart necklace, twisted hoop earrings and small black clutch.

If like me you like to wear bright colours but still want to keep in with the current trends maybe try a singular coloured item. This kind of look would work with most dress types and a block colour would be pretty cool which would also give you the option to play with colourful adornments and accessories.  In my case everything I wore in these photos is black except for the dress. I wanted something bright, bold and sexy that would pop, and this dress was the perfect option for the look I was trying to achieve. I developed a love for bright and brashy prints last year and it’s definitely a trend that I hope we see again in 2015!

Seeing as the weather is getting colder by the day this sort of outfit would most likely require a scarf and some gloves. A cool pair of black leather gloves would enhance the biker chic look and a scarf or snood are not only practical, they can also provide a little something different to the style.

Remember whatever you wear, feel fabulous in it and wear it with a smile!

Animal Magic! A Junarose Review

Hey everyone I hope all is well. I’m sorry that things have been quiet here on the blog recently. I have been snowed under at work and I had a lot to take care of before I could get back to posting. The good news is that there are a lot of new and fun trends to talk about this season. I have some new looks to share with you all and we’re about to approach the winter holiday season

I was recently at a blogger event for one of my favourite brands Junarose. The event was in conjunction with MSSVG and showcased some of their amazing new lines, set to be with us next spring. At the event we were lucky enough to pick an item from their current collection to review. As soon as I saw the gorgeous animal print jacket I new that was the item I wanted to try the most.

I make no secret about the things I really like in fashion and I have to admit I am forming a bit of an obsession with animal prints. I have skirts, tops, lingerie and now this gorgeous jacket! When it comes to the cold months of the year I usually feel uncomfortable weather-wise. Mountains of layers are required to keep the cold at bay and the constant fight against the wind and the rain is never fun. For me the most important thing when it comes to my winter wardrobe are my coats. Usually practicality and comfort give way to style which is why I was so excited to try this thick and puffy jacket which encompasses the practicalities and comfort I need with my sense of style. I picked this one up in a XXL. Depending on how big your waist and breasts are you may need to be careful when selecting a size for this one. The jacket tappers in slightly around the waist to accent the curves we have there. In my case I usually have to size up with any clothing items which need to be zipped or button fastened because of my bust size.

The season tends to present us with loads of dark colours and prints so to be able to add a splash of colour and style into the mix only makes for cool winter looks.

I have to say I really like the feel of this coat on. The lining is thin which makes wearing sweaters and stuff quite comfortable for a jacket of this shape. I also like the fact that it is really warm when on; so if you’re one of the people who doesn’t like to wear thick layers in the winter this would be one that you will enjoy wearing with tees and other lighter items. Despite being a fairly puffy jacket it’s not heavy in weight at all and makes for a really comfortable wear.

Even though this jacket has an animal print on it; the colours are rich and more subtle than some of the other animal print jackets and coats on the market. I really like the fact that for a bold print it doesn’t look too jazzy or bright. I should also mention that I have recently worn this in the rain and it doesn’t drink in the rain water like some of my previous coats have. No one wants to have to wear a coat or jacket that gets heavy and water logged in the rain. The pockets are also fairly deep and have snap button detail for security.

With this outfit I decided to put the jacket with a cold shoulder dress by Boohoo size 24. I like dresses like these to hang loosely on my frame because of the neck detail and length. I think that items like this can be really unflattering on my frame if they are too fitted as they hang loose in areas and cling too much in the breast and stomach areas. I paired this dress with a simple pair of black trousers and my Legroom boots from Fashion World.

I thought I would keep the accessories to a minimum and so I wore my black and pink lightning bolt necklace, my trademark hoop earrings and simple black bag. As the weather is getting colder my hair scarves will most definitely be making many appearances in my looks. I love them as an accessory because they are a great way to keep warm and hide the odd bad hair day!

I’d like to take a moment to give a shout-out to Dale Grimshaw. I may not have met him but when we stumbled across his gorgeous artwork it made for a really fun background for these outfit pictures. What a talent!

For those of you who like this jacket and would like to try it out or even try out a different style from Junarose then click here.

Maximise With A Maxi

Do you ever find yourself searching for a specific kind of garment? Maybe you want something for a particular event or season? In my case I was on a quest for the perfect maxi dress. It seems that having a good maxi dress is just as important as having the perfect LBD in your wardrobe and with the holiday season here and the temperatures soaring, my eyes have been well and truly open as I scoured websites and stores looking for a dress that was just right!

I wanted something that would suit my style, needs and my taste in colour and fabric. The lovely Hanna from The Wardrobe Challenge showed me a dress by Lovedrobe that she had recently gotten which I instantly feel in love with! The length was just right; adequate to wear with flats, wedges and heels. The silky soft fabric was light, airy and flattering on her and I knew this was one I wanted to pick up for myself.

One of my concerns was trying to find a dress that I felt supported my breasts. So many maxi dresses have halter-neck ties or elasticated stretch material in that area, which is fine and looks good with the style. In my case I like to feel a dress mould around my bust and provide a little extra support. The thin straps are adjustable, giving you the option to wear the dress in a more fitted fashion (as I have in these pictures) or looser for comfort. The built in cups sit nicely against my shape giving me a full and elegant look.

I really wanted a dress with splashes of colour and this black maxi with splattered print in coral, pink, yellow and peachy tones is something I would wear out and about for drinks or enjoying myself in the sunshine. The waist detail and side ties pull you in at the middle giving a nice lift to the bust and comfortable sweep of the skirt. I picked this dress up in a size 26 as the area around the cups is rather fitted and it would have been too tight had I selected something smaller. Depending on the size and shape of your bust you may be able to downsize in this one as the skirt of the dress is very roomy.

I last wore this dress on a seriously hot day and despite the base colour being in black I felt really comfortable. The light fabric made this a perfect selection for such a sunny day in London. The interesting feel about the material of the dress is that I know I could have worn this dress on a cooler evening and still felt comfortable in it. To me the fabric of the dress feels rather adaptable and would be a comfortable wear for most temperatures during the summer and early autumn.

I wanted to wear a simple shrug with this one. This was in an effort to avoid gaining thick tan lines from the straps of the dress and my bra. If I were to wear this out one evening, I would most likely wear a light jacket in black to compliment the fabric and offer a little additional coverage.

For a dress with such a bold print I wanted very light and simple accessories. I played around with the colour pallet of the dress and so I opted for the Raffia Clutch from Simplybe and netted ballerina shoes from Primark. Feathered jewellery added those finishing touches I like and I feel that they worked well with the print in the dress.

The great news about this dress, it’s on sale! You can pick this one up at Evans where I got mine at an amazing £30 reduced from £50. If you like this one I would definitely recommend it. It feels amazing on and the style is simple and elegant. With just the right amount of colour this is one that works perfectly for the current season. I look forward to taking this one with me on holiday where it shall make an appearance at the beach!

Remember what ever you wear, feel fabulous in it and wear it with a smile!
