New Stripes

Plus size woman smiling wearing a black and white blouse with stripes, white wide legged trousers, silver balerina pumps and a white bandana

Who doesn’t love clothing items that can be worn to the office, on a date, casually or for a formal event? I do. When you’re on a budget and you want something chic, Pretty Little Thing is a brand to check out. They have been leading the way online for quite some time now and their Plus range is extensive and varied. Monochrome fashion is something I love and what woman can resist stripes? I can’t and so these items had to be mine!

The brand sent me a few items to review and I have to say, multipurpose items will always win out with me! V-cut blouses work with all shapes and bust sizes. Tops with this cut are always easy to wear and the ties are perfect for cinching in the waist. It is all about the details sometimes. Diagonal and vertical stripes can create the illusion of a wider bust and smaller waist. In my case I’m fine in the bust area but the design suits my frame. I love the length of this one and can see myself wearing this one from time to time.

In addition to the blouse I really wanted to get my hands on these white wide legged trousers. I love white trousers and I don’t wear them often enough. The pencil thin black stripe down the side of the leg is a nice detail and works really well when colour matching a black and white monochrome look. The length of these would work amazingly with a high heel or sandal. Both of these items have something that makes them work so well for me. They are made from fabrics that won’t crease! I hate ironing and I generally try to avoid doing it so this alone is reason to smile.

I’m really looking forward to seeing what fab designs come from the brand in the future. I love that there are some dressy items but also some stuff that would be perfect for a lazy casual day. Pretty Little Thing has some items for us bigger chicks too. Stripes. spots, slogans or block colours there are many ways you can style an outfit. What’s one of your favourite fashion styles?

A New Rose

Every now and then I love to get girly. Vintage dresses are a bit of a weakness for me, especially swing dresses. When Dolly and Dotty reached out to me to ask if I would like to review one of their dresses I couldn’t refuse! When I saw this Annie embroidered roses swing dress it had to be mine! It took me a while to select between the red and black or black and white options! I definitely think I made the right decision. The red rose just happens to be my favourite flower so this for me was a no brainer!

Vintage dresses have such a femininity about them. When I wear them I have a different feel of confidence and a spring in my step. For me wearing them is my little way of getting to play dress up. What I love about this one is the simplicity in the style. The thick shoulder straps make bra selection an easy process. Not having to worry about too much exposed cleavage would even make this something I could wear to work on a casual Friday. The midi length is perfect for me, especially if you want to wear chub rub shorts!

I love a dress that feels comfortable, has a little wow factor about it and works with women of all sizes and shapes! Vintage dresses suit absolutely everyone! Dolly And Dotty have many gorgeous dress. I actually wore one in a shoot I did over a year ago, check it out in this post. Red is a colour that really looks good against my skin tone. Being able to wear items with red adornments is always fun for me! It gives me an excuse to pull on a red bandana and wear my lips clutch bag.

You know what I always say, wear the clothes that make you feel confident and speak to your mood. The sunshine always makes me want to pull on a vintage dress! I have an entire wardrobe full of them! Here’s to many more retro summer days!

A Cross To Bear

A plus size woman wearing a grey cross t-shirt, grey acid wash jeans and silver trainers

One thing I love to share with people is my faith! I’m not one to bible bash people with my beliefs but I am a proud Christian. I think it’s important for people to be proud of who they are, what they believe and to be confident. Not often do you find clothing that which allows you to wear your faith with pride that isn’t the traditional garb. When you’re out and about running errands there’s nothing better than sticking on a t-shirt and jeans. We Wear All contacted me and gave me the chance to review something from their collection. This Lexi Cross Stud t-shirt was one of the first things to catch my eye.

What I loved about this one is that it’s available in a total of 10 different colourways. Anyone who likes this one will have a choice that works for them. I’ll be honest, I don’t own many t-shirts aside from my Michael Jackson fan tees. With that being said whenever I see one I want, I simply have to have it! I have a few cross necklaces but I don’t tend to wear them very often. I also find that sometimes you just want to be casual. Being able to wear a basic tee with a soft stretchy fabric is always nice, especially on a busy day. This metallic stud cross t-shirt has a really simple design but is so easy to style.

When putting this look together I drew upon my number one personal style rule. I was going to colour coordinate! Pairing this t-shirt with an old pair of acid wash jeans I had and some silver trainers made for a comfortable outfit I could wear whilst running errands. Hanna borrowed me her pair of Le Specs No Smirking Tortoise sunnies. On such a bright and sunny day they were perfect with my outfit and against the strong rays. Finally I pulled on my pewter grey bandana and I was ready head out and face the day. When I wear grey, I tend to add a touch of pink usually in my lipstick. I feel like you need some colour when you wear a single shaded tone.

I don’t think that what you wear always has to represent what you think or feel. If you do like to showcase your feelings whether it be with a slogan t-shirt, emblem, symbol or flag; I say go for it! I feel that as long as what you’re wearing is bold enough to make a statement without causing any harm or offence go for it! With that being said many people wear things purely for the fashion element and that’s totally cool. I respect the symbolic sign of the cross and what it represents and it’s fun for me to be able to wear it either as a statement or fashion accessory.

As I said previously, I don’t own too many t-shirts but I’m sure you’ll see me in more of them soon. Stay tuned lol. What are your thoughts of traditional or even religious symbols being put into mainstream fashion? I’m really interested to know!

Summertime Gingham

A plus size woman smiling wearing a gingham wrap dress, and t-bar heels

When the sun comes out people rush to the local park, scowl websites looking for the best holiday deals and organise a barbecue for their friends. In my case when the sun shines my fashion senses become inspired. Summer is my favourite time of year. My mood lifts and I get to wear some of my favourite styles. During the colder months of the year you find yourself dressing to avoid catching colds or the flu. In the summertime it’s easier to have fun with your clothes as these problems no longer come into play. I never tire of wearing Gingham in the summer and have a few items with the print.

I find that gingham is a print that suits everyone who wears it! Young or old, everyone seems to look good in it.  I see it splashed across a series of different styles and in a wide variety of colours. When Studio8 contacted me and asked if I would like to review something I had to try out this Alice Gingham dress. Wrap dresses are so comfortable and work with women of all shapes, big or small busted. What drew me to this one, other than the gingham are the three quarter length sleeves. I find if a dress has elbow sleeves or longer they can be worn in many places and no longer require the need for a jacket or shrug.

I’m wearing this dress in a size 26. The fabric has very little stretch so if like me you have larger biceps or a big bust you may wish to up-size. The ties are really long and there is a loop at the side of the dress where you can cross the fabric over your front and fasten it securely. Some wrap dresses aren’t designed this way and you find yourself constantly needing to readjust your clothes. I felt free and secure when wearing this one. As you can see the cut gave me a deep cleavage which is OK. I always find that if a dress has a deep cleavage, a midi or maxi length creates a nice balance. This dress is a comfortable fit and the colour way allows you to match it with any accessories or shoes.

When I took these photos I wanted to keep things really simple. I find that with some items it’s best to let the clothes do the talking for you. I wore a simple pair of t-bar heels from a previous Hotter collection in a champagne nude colour. Makeup isn’t something I tend to experiment much with so I kept it to my usual style. Hair up and my signature hoop earrings in and I was ready and set with my look.

It’s important to feel confident and comfortable in what you wear. If there is a print you love play it safe and stick with it!
