Plus+ By Bethany Rutter

When it comes to the Plus size community we have really made some huge strides over the past few years. We now have a wide variety of fashion brands on the market to cater to all of our different styles. Women all over the place are able to move and stride with an air of confidence and generally speaking we are more appreciated for what we have to offer and how we look. The standards of beauty continue to remain pretty much the same though, so when big things happen in our community we celebrate them! One of my fellow blogging sisters Bethany Rutter not only launched a fab collection with Navabi last year. We now have the most amazing little coffee table book ‘Plus+’.

Plus+ By Bethany Rutter

I was extremely honoured and flattered to have been asked to be a part of this book. Bethany has banded together a series of fabulous women from all over the world to highlight their fashion and beauty. Plus+ features women of all cultural and ethnic backgrounds across a varied age demographic. Each woman has their own style and their own way of expressing themselves. It’s great to be able to see so many different looks and styles. If you get hold of this one you will see a little something for everyone. Edgy street fashion, vintage classics, abstract looks, elegant, classy, casual and sophisticated fashion. Each woman has a quote about her style so you get a glimpse of everyone’s personalities too.

The cover art features American fashion blogger and designer Gabi Fresh and the foreword is penned by the ever celebrated Nicolette Mason. Bethany of course speaks about what inspired this book and how it was put together. I guess for me just knowing that a book like this is available gives me reason to smile. If you had asked me a few years ago if this sort of thing was possible I would have laughed in your face! I remember a time when plus size women were scoffed at and our fashion choices and were limited to what I call granny chic! We had nothing but butterfly prints and shapeless sacks to dress ourselves in. Being part of something celebrating us bigger women as sexy, trendy and stylish means more than you could possibly know! Hats off to Bethany for making it happen!

Some of you may remember my reviews of not only the ruffle gingham shirt in these pics but the hot pink shirt Bethany designed.

It’s All About The Ruffles

Don’t you just love it when you find an item of clothing that you can wear in many different ways? A few months back, I was at a preview for some fresh new styles for AW17. Block colours, fun prints and bold cuts were on display for us to see. Navabi is a brand that carries a collection of styles from a wide selection of plus size brands, each with their own flair and all with quality and originality at the forefront of their ethos. One of my very own blogging sisters Bethany aka Arched Eyebrow designed one of their current collections. You can see my review of her hot pink pussy bow blouse here. In truth the cobalt blue items were of course ones I wanted to try out but it was the pink lines that most captivated me, especially this ruffled gingham shirt.

What immediately caught my eye was of course the baby pink gingham. As a huge lover of vintage fashion, gingham contributes to some of my favourite rockabilly and retro looks. The freshness of the colouring with this shirt made the item a transitional piece in my view. I opted to wear a denim mini skirt and high heels with this one but I could see myself styling it in many ways. This could make for a fun and vibrant item in the office or a fun casual item. I could even see this one being worn with a little cowgirl magic for a fab rodeo feel. Bethany 100% has a style of her own and these ruffles are most definitely her!

Trying to find ways to make a classic piece like a shirt have something different can be a huge challenge. The cut and shape of this ruffled gingham shirt is flattering on women of all shapes, sizes, and colours. What I like is that the ruffles bring something fresh and new to whatever you match the shirt with. In my case I wanted a rodeo cowgirl look with a twist. Gingham is something I tend to pair with fun bandanas and cute handbags but I thought i’d let the shirt do the talking this time.

People often assume that I have spades of confidence which I do, but we all have those areas we need to work on. In my case I struggle to show my legs. I hate that they’re covered in scars from playful times in my childhood and aren’t as shapely as I’d like. With all that being said I have always decided to throw myself into the deep end and showcase the very thing I hate to push the boundaries where my confidence lies. This has always helped me in overcoming those personal demons. It helps when you have a baby pink ruffled gingham shirt on with statement shoulders! I find that if you have on an item with a statement colour or cut, the focus is geared to that area. I also find myself feeling more comfortable in that situation.

If you’re looking for something bright and colourful this AW17 then you have to check out the collection by Bethany. Who said autumn and winter has to be dressed in black?! If like me you enjoy bringing colour to the colder months of the year you won’t be disappointed.

Cutely Sophisticated With Arched Eyebrow!

*The Blouse Was A Gifted Item

There’s nothing more exciting for a fashionista than learning of a new and upcoming collection. The thought of being able to try out some new and exciting clothing is always a plus especially for us bigger girls! I was recently at a AW17 preview of the new Navabi collections and, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that one of the new ranges was completely designed by one of my blogging sisters Bethany aka Arched Eyebrow! For the past few years I have been a fan of Bethany’s blog and have enjoyed seeing her girly yet edgy and sophisticated style come to life through her photos.

Her range features bold and bright block colours, pretty bows and feminine details with a twist that add more than just a little colour to the winter wardrobe. I tried on this hot pink pussybow blouse and just knew I had to get my hands on it, in addition to a gorgeous cobalt blue coat and gingham shirt (i’ll be sharing the shirt with you in a future post)! I’m wearing this one in a size 26, the 24 was a great fit and true to size but with shirts I always like to up-size for the additional boob room. There’s nothing worse than when a cute shirt gapes in the front when you move and, I didn’t want to take any chances and wanted to be able to wear this one without any restrictions.

The buttons are embossed cut black triangles which give this item a little twist, there is also one at the back of the neck to keep the bow secured and in place. What I love about this top is that it’s cutely sophisticated and even though it is 100% Bethany personified, it works for all women out there and can bring a fun element to your own personal style. The bow can be tightly tied or left rather wide (which I have done in these photos).

The rich candy colour of the blouse is really easy to style and would work with denim, black, white, pinks and a variety of fun prints. I decided to pair this one with an a-line shaped, pleated pleather skirt from a previous Lane Bryant collection, some cute ankle boots from New Look, a leopard clutch, my signature hoop earrings and a hot pink lippy. What I love about this blouse is that it’s a multi purpose item. I knew as soon as I saw it that I could wear this to the office, as a causal item for a fun daytime look and even on a night out with friends.

I have to say I’m really happy to see that a blogger with her own style and approach is being highlighted in such a way and, that people who may not have known her before can pick up a piece of it for themselves and add it to their own wardrobes. I hope that a second collection is on the cards for Bethany as her items are great in style and quality and in my opinion, are must have items for everyone!
